25.01.2022 TELEHEALTH TIPS Please share your suggestions in the comments so we can add to the list! If your child is distracted by seeing themselves you can turn your view of the video off so they can only see the clinician. ... Set up a dedicated space for your child to have their appointment. A small childrens table and chair for younger children or at a desk for older children. Ensure there are minimal distractions in the background. E.g TV off, other children as occupied as possible. Provide your child with time to transition to their appointment. When you have a clinic based appointment your child has time to transition from home/school to the clinic during their travel. Some children will benefit from finishing up the task/play they are doing 10 minutes before the telehealth session starts. If your child is feeling nervous or hesitant to participate encourage them to have a favourite toy/object available to show and share with the therapist for the first few minutes of the session. What other tips and ideas can you share?

23.01.2022 Pleased to launch my new decodables... The Tandem Books! Tandem books are designed for SHARING. Sharing books, sharing reading, sharing stories, sharing the fu...n! Seven books in the series, one for each set (Sets 1-7). Each page of a story has two sections. On the left is a version of the story for the adult to read and on the right is a version for the child to read - simplified and decodable. The childs version contains words that contain sounds that the child has worked on and corresponds to the sets in the Phonics for Pupils with Special Educational Needs programme. There are also two options available: 1. capitalisation of names only, no punctuation for children who need to focus on lowercase letters and work on blending - aimed at pupils with complex needs 2. capitalisation and punctuation included for the majority of children Available for FREE download from my TES page: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/PhonicsforSEN Feedback welcome!

18.01.2022 Our practice has returned to a telehealth only mode of service delivery. We will not be seeing any clients face to face for a minimum of 6 weeks. Speech pathology is considered to be a essential service but the DHHS directs that routine services are not permitted. I.e regular therapy appointments ... Essential services can continue but must only be provided if the absence of, or delay of this care, would result in a significant change/deterioration in the patient/clients functional independence necessitating escalation of care. I.e hospitalisation telehealth services should be carried out where possible It is important that speech pathologists are working to minimise community contacts.
