20.01.2022 DOES MY PET LOOK FAT???? Where does your pet sit on this body score chart? Throwing table scrapes to your pet can seem harmless but they can add up. Here's some food for thought... Check out these human equivalents:... Cat or small dog 25gm of cheddar cheese is equivalent to 4 chocolate bars in human calories. Medium - large dog 25gm of cheese is equivalent to 1.5 chocolate bars in human calories. If you think your furry family member needs to trim down, or fatten up, contact the clinic and speak to one of our friendly staff to discuss what options will be best for your pet.

20.01.2022 HELP! MY DOG IS ITCHY Skin discomfort in dogs may have many causes, which include external parasites (fleas, ticks, mites and biting insects), hormonal imbalances, infection (bacterial/yeast or fungal) or allergies (allergic to food or the environment, pollen or even mould). Common signs of skin disease include: - ... Itching Scratching Licking/chewing Bad smelling, flaky, patchy skin Hair loss Scabs, crusts or thickened skin Red patches, spots or pimples. If your pet is showing signs of skin disease it is important to have a consultation with a vet to help diagnose the problem and provide much needed relief.

19.01.2022 With Easter just around the corner, don't forget that chocolate is toxic to dogs, and to keep the eggs & bunnies well out of reach of your pet. Some possible signs to look out for are vomiting, diarrhoea, panting, restlessness, increased thirst, increased urination, and in extreme cases muscle tremors and seizures. These signs can start anywhere from 6 to 12 hours after ingestion, so the best thing to do if you know your furry friend has ingested chocolate is to contact your ...vet. If necessary, they will induce vomiting so as to get as much of the chocolate out the system as possible. Just like we had to do with this little sweetie who decided to start enjoying the Easter spirit early this year, a decision I think she regretted. Luckily Nurse Tigerlilly was there to be her BFF and make sure her ears didn't get in the way. Lexi, the little pooch, has since fully recovered and is back to her normal mischievous self. See more

14.01.2022 PLEASE LEAVE THEM IN THE SHOPS Most of these rawhide products and treats come from China and their manufacturing process is less than desirable, or healthy, for your pet. Their journey starts with the hides being soaked in a toxic sodium sulphide to remove the hair and fat. More chemicals are used in order to split the hide into layers which is then washed with hydrogen peroxide to give the white "pure" look and remove the rancid smell. Then they add the pretty festive col...ours and the glue to form cute shapes. These treats regularly cause intestinal blockages and choking. The chews go slippery when wet and are near impossible to get hold of to save a choking dog. Some studies have also shown that they can lead to kidney disease.

12.01.2022 COME IN AND GET YOUR BRAVECTO TODAY!!! While ticks are an all year round concern, here in Qld, August/September, through to December, is when they often come out in force. It’s vitally important that, for your pets’ health, they are on some form of preventative. Bravecto chews for dogs, and spot applications for cats, offer your pet a full 3 months protection against these nasty little arachnids. Here are signs to watch out for if your pet isn’t up to date with their prevent...ion: Weakness/wobbliness in the hind legs A change in voice, meow or bark changes pitch Excessive salivation, maybe even vomiting Increased respiration, panting, progressing to loud breathing and sometimes grunting A hacking cough A loss or change of appetite Your pet showing even just one of these signs may indicate it has been affected by a paralysis tick and you should contact your vet immediately.

12.01.2022 Did you know that Heartworm or Dirofilaria Immitis is carried, and transmitted, by mosquitoes? Heartworm can cause heart failure and can be fatal. It may only take a single bite from a carrier mosquito to infect your pet. The mosquito infects your pet with heartworm larvae that then migrate through your pet’s tissues to the heart, and adjacent blood vessels of the lungs, where they grow into adult worms. In the early stages of heartworm infection, there may be no outward sign...s of disease. Luckily it is very easy to prevent. Yearly Heartworm Injection is the most effective, easy and affordable heartworm prevention for your pet. Always seek veterinary advice before changing or starting heartworm prevention. A heartworm test may be required before starting any heartworm prevention.

07.01.2022 COVID PROTOCOL UPDATE!!! As an essential service, the clinic will remain open and operating as normal. However, in line with the current lockdown protocols for the greater Brisbane area, we require that masks are worn within the clinic and we will only be allowing one person in the consult room with their pet. Also, we ask that if you see someone in the reception area, that you wait until they move on before entering the clinic. We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience at this time.

07.01.2022 Summer is here and temperatures are heating up!!! Here are some helpful tips you can use to ensure your pet is kept cool and safe this summer. Water bowls In case of a tip-over, leave two or three water bowls outside, they need to be checked on a regular basis. You could also pop in a few ice cubes. Exercise - It is important your dog gets a regular walk. Remember, sunrise and sunset are the most ideal time for a walk. Sleeping Spots - Place outside beds or mats in a s...hady or cool spots. Try dampening your dog’s blanket, or you can buy cooling mats. Doggy Paddle - You can place a plastic shell or small paddle pool (with shallow water), and it can also be an extra water bowl! Pupsicles!!! - Frozen treats in a treat dispenser or Kong are a great way to cool down your dogs and keep them occupied. Slip, Slop, Slap - Dogs and cats with smooth/thin hair and white-coloured ears or noses can be more susceptible to skin cancers. Applying pet sunscreen during the day is a must. Cats will generally find a place to keep themselves cool in the heat. A few things to be mindful of are: Heat Stress - Cats can suffer if the get caught outside in the sun or use up energy with playing. Watch for signs of heat stress such as panting or excessive salivation. Water Bowls and Fans - Ensure their water is in the shade or inside. You can leave a fan on indoors or put down some wet towels ands cats will use them if they choose to. Skin Cancer - Keep white cats or cats with light pigmentation indoors during the hottest part of the day, 10am - 4pm. See more

05.01.2022 UPDATE: REUNITED WITH MUM! :D FOUND!!! This sweet little girl was brought in this afternoon. She was found wandering on the road around Elanora Way. We can only keep her here overnight, then she will have to go to the pound. If she belongs to you please contact the clinic on 3282 7888, proof of ownership will be required.

04.01.2022 THE IMPORTANCE OF A GOOD QUALITY, BALANCED DIET FOR YOUR NEW PUP. We recently had a pup come into the clinic looking like this poor little guy. He is suffering from Carpal Laxity Syndrome, caused by overfeeding, underfeeding, or feeding a poor quality or unbalanced diet. While it is more common in larger breed pups, smaller breeds have been known to be affected. The puppy we saw showed a marked improvement, within days, once the owner started the pup on Hills puppy food, at t...he recommended feed rate. After two weeks he was back to being a normal, happy puppy. We recommend either Hills or Royal Canin diets for your growing puppies and kittens, to ensure they have the best quality food available.
