17.01.2022 I have sent South Coast Shotokan members an email about Virtually as One SKIA karate sessions so please check you inbox (and junk files) and take advantage of these free karate training sessions. Join us for the next Virtually as One national online training session this Friday (July 24th) at 6pm AEST. The guest instructor is Sensei Natsuko Mineghishi (5th Dan Instructor) from Victoria who was the 2012 SKIF Veterans Kata World Champion.

16.01.2022 Congratulations to all the students that were awarded their new grades last night. The last training session for the year is in Berry this Friday evening. There may be some students grading in Berry too so come along to the final training session for the year and put in a big effort. OSS.

11.01.2022 Taikyoku Shodan The Taikyoku series of kata are said to have been developed by Yoshitaka Funakoshi (Gichin Funakoshi’s son) but may have actually been developed by, or at least endorsed by Master Funakoshi as indicated in Karate-do Nyumon (Funakoshi, 1943). The name Taikyoku (according to Wikipedia) refers to the Chinese philosophical concept of Taiji (a Chinese cosmological term meaning the supreme ultimate state of undifferentiated absolute and infinite potential, the oneness before duality, from which Yin and Yang originate). Yin and yang can be described as how seemingly opposite and contrary forces may actually be complementary, connected and interdependent in the natural world and how they may give rise to each other as they interrelate to one another. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yzIQJsRJzEk

09.01.2022 Training for South Coast Shotokan members is on tonight at Nth Nowra dojo. Please remember if you are not feeling well or have cold like symptoms, stay at home and get tested. Please wash your hands before coming to training and keep your distance. OSS

03.01.2022 Reminder to South Coast Shotokan Karate members, there will be no training in Berry on Friday 4 September as I will be attending urgent family responsibilities. An extra Friday will be added at the end of the term to make up for it.
