23.01.2022 Did you see us on the news tonight?

21.01.2022 Dear IOGKF Members, Our IOGKF members inspire us daily by sharing their ideas, their time, and their videos. Thank you. This is a difficult time for each of us.... Our family is strong and we will get through this together. When faced with such difficulties, I try to stay focused by thinking about our HOSHIN. The HOSHIN helps me think deeply about why we practice, and why we teach traditional karate. This helps me focus on the future to a time when we will be able to practice together again in person. I’ve attached a copy of Higaonna-sensei’s 1986 IOGKF Int’l article on HOSHIN(Our Aim). Stay safe, Tetsuji Nakamura IOGKF Chief Instructor. - HOSHIN (PURPOSE/AIM) by Sensei Morio Higaonna - In today's plentiful society, where people are well provided for and want for little in the way of material things, I believe that now, more than ever, karate has a necessary and important role to play in contributing to the health of society. By educating the young in the way of traditional karate, we can cultivate people with strong minds and strong bodies who can function in society to the benefit of society. Karate training is a moral training, as well as a physical one for self-defense. It isn't only concerned with developing fighting machines. Traditional karate, taught in the correct way, will cultivate people able to defend themselves, but just as importantly, it will cultivate within them a sense of responsibility, a sense of justice, and courage which will help them to behave in the correct way. It is important to be aware of this side of karate training concerned with the development of a good character. This aspect of karate isn't something that is stored in your mind to be brought out when the situation demands, but it becomes a part of your very being and arises naturally, so that your acts are a manifestation of your heart (personality). Rei, or bowing, is an example of this. When we bow, we don't do it because someone tells us to, but it is something that comes from within us of our own volition, as an expression of respect. Today, with the spread of sports karate throughout the world, I believe very strongly that the tradition of Okinawan Goju-Ryu, as passed on to us by Miyagi Chojun Sensei, must be protected and pre served intact. To ensure the preservation of this inheritance for the generations to come, it is essential to foster instructors who are not only fine exponents of the art themselves, but instructors who are also capable of passing on their knowledge correctly to others. We must strive to develop a network of good instructors throughout the nations of the world. Okinawan Goju-Ryu founder, Miyagi Chojun Sensei's dying wish was that his successors would forge a group of dedicated karate practitioners who would protect and perpetuate traditional Goju-Ryu karate as he had taught it. He not only wanted to see karate maintained at its then present level, but he believed that through endless repetition of the traditional kata and through one's own personal research, an even deeper level of understanding will be achieved. I believe we, as his successors, through our own research and diligent training, can achieve this deeper understanding and fulfill our founder's wishes. AIMS OF THE I.O.G.K.F. 1. Through our own hard efforts, to develop a good character. 2. To protect the tradition of Okinawan Goju-Ryu and to further develop our understanding of karate technique through hard training and research. 3. To ensure our instructors are capable and conscientious, as representatives of traditional Okinawan Goju-Ryu karate. 4. To teach "traditional karate in schools. 5. To make a network of good instructors world-wide. DATE: October 26, 1986 Morio Higaonna

13.01.2022 A huge CONGRATULATIONS to these 5 incredible students who tonight graded to their Junior Shodan-Ho and PeeWee Kakyu-ni belts. Last night they went through a gruelling 2 hour grading where they did kihon, hundreds of push ups/sit-ups etc, individual Kata, Bunkai, 2 man Kata, Kumite drills and San Dan Gi and then to top it off they also had to fight our adult black belts! They showed tremendous spirit and determination and never gave up!! We have watched these students grow a...nd are so, SO PROUD of where they are today. We celebrated tonight with a dinner and belt presentation. Well done and Congratulations to Baly, Marielle, Ava, Laby and Nikita. These belts were very well deserved!!

11.01.2022 A great international event attended by all of our instructors!

11.01.2022 Never give up. That’s something that we all need to keep telling ourselves in this time. It can be disheartening or difficult when you can’t come to the dojo, and when you’re told to self-isolate, but we have been amazed and touched by the support of the Bonython kids and their families. We had a great turnout for our first online classes - testament to the dedication and hard work that all our students put in to training. Thank you all Keep training, never give up! ... #canberra #canberrakarate #karateclassescanberra #tuggeranongkarate #karateclasses #martialartstuggeranong #karate #martialarts #kidskarate #kidsmartialarts #gojuryu #aogkf #iogkf #traditionalkarate #okinawakarate #okinawankarate #honbudojo #kidsselfdefence #karatekids #kids #martialartskids #karateaustralia #australiamartialarts #ninjas #karatecanberra #kata #kidsfitness #childrenskarate #karatedo
