15.01.2022 MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL THE INSTRUCTORS AND STUDENTS OF THE MATSUBAYASHI-RYU KARATE ASSOCIATION OF AUSTRALIA

14.01.2022 Dear Laurieton students (Parents/Guardians), please read (explain) the following, which will be strictly enforced; Its been a while since Dojo etiquette has been discussed and given the strict, yet necessary hall requirements set down by the Catholic Parish whom allow us to train in the hall and those lawfully required of us under current Health Orders as they relate to the evolving Covid-19 situation, it’s essential that dojo etiquette as explained below is understood and st...rictly followed. Dojo etiquette ensures that students are training in a safe manner and are behaving in a manner consistent with the conditions listed in the application for membership of the MKAA you signed on your initial karate journey. Dojo etiquette in regular classes is also considered in the decision to permit a student to attempt a grading/promotion test. Students with any type of coloured belt, should be setting an example to the junior/ new students. But more importantly, by following dojo etiquette, our limited training time each week can be fully focused on improving/learning karate, without Sensei/Senior students having to intervene to correct poor behavior, taking valuable training time away from your fellow Dojo mates. By following dojo etiquette, you are showing respect to your Sensei, whom is dedicating his time to teach you Authentic Okinawan Karate. You’re showing respect for your Dojo, of which you are a valued representative of and steadily building self discipline, that you will carry throughout life.

06.01.2022 This week is the last for training at the Laurieton Dojo for 2020. This Thursday night ( 17/12/2020 ), we will all train together at 6pm and then have a small Christmas Party commencing at 7pm. Hopefully next year will not be as difficult as this one has been.

05.01.2022 This is the Dogi and Obi worn by Nagamine Shoshin Sensei. The Dogi bears the kanji for his name. The belt is a simple black belt with the three stripes design...ated for a Hanshi. On one side again it says Nagamine, and the other it says Matsubayashiryu. On the day that Akamine Sensei was recognized by Governor Ota for his contributions to martial arts, Nagamine Sensei was also there being recognized. Nagamine Sensei founded his branch of the Shorinryu tree, and authored the definitive book The Essence of Okinawan Karate. He was a kind, and humble man who continually sought self improvement. When I was younger I though that having multi colored dogis was neat. I still have a black top that I used to mix and match white and black. Then I met Akamine Sensei, Nakazato Sensei, Nagamine Sensei and others. They all wore the simple white Gi. At most they might have one or two patches on the Gi or the kanji for the style or system the represented. I believe that this is the true way to wear a Gi and have come to dislike uniforms that are adorned with stripes or multiple colors. The true luminaries in martial arts have no need to embroider Instructor, Master, Grand Master, Supreme Grand Master, Black Belt Club, or the school name across the back like a billboard. If you feel the need to do this to your uniforms, I ask you to reconsider the example of these internationally renown and sought out instructors who never wanted to be called Master, just sensei. We all choose our own paths, but it has always seemed to me that the more humble the person on the path is the more they are able to learn.

05.01.2022 Congrats to all the Laurieton students whom successfully passed their grading this evening.

04.01.2022 GOOD NEWS Wingham Dojo can resume training again in the Wingham Public School Assembly Hall, Murray Rd, Wingham on the 22nd July 2020. Junior class - 6pm - 7pm Seniors 7.10pm - 8.40pm. Covid19 compliance rules will apply. Please come dressed in your gi. Entry will be through the back door of the hall. Exit through another door. DO NOT ENTER the hall until met and processed by a co-ordinator. Please be patient as we refine our application of the Covid19 rules and streamline it for our ongoing training. Looking forward to seeing everyone again.

03.01.2022 Souji (, also Soji, Sji) literally means cleaning. Everybody, who dives a little bit into the Japanese culture, realizes that cleaning, cleanness, and tidi...ness are of utmost importance. This also applies to Karate and Budo. Cleaning shall teach virtues like respect, humbleness, mindfulness, diligence, and a sense to be part of a collective. In addition, the practice of cleaning shall also lead to spiritual purity and enlightenment. How this works and why you should clean your Dojo regulary explains Dr. Christian Tribowski. See more
