24.01.2022 Ahhh books the way of travelling without having to move your feet and dream with your eyes open. We’re celebrating them all week so don’t forget to dress up as the character you love best.

22.01.2022 Who am I?’ Is such an important question to explore. When it comes to learning, what really matters is how clever a child thinks they are and how they feel about learning.

21.01.2022 It was Albert Einstein that claimed creativity was more important than intelligence. Knowledge is limited, whilst creativity is endless. Each year we’ve celebrated creative expression at our annual art show, and this year we’ve had to find new ways to throw the party.... Today is the first day of Art Show week and it will look a little different, but we’re not afraid of innovation. In fact, it seems kind of fitting - don’t you think?

19.01.2022 Children are driven to seek out opportunities that challenge them, and what a child gains from following that instinct is of much more benefit than what any bubble wrap could offer.

18.01.2022 As children take steps toward self awareness, art can serve as an open door into the language of self expression. But in their first few years, art is predominantly a sensory experience with an undercurrent of concepts like cause and effect. It may take numerous introductions for a child to approach a new medium with confidence, and it’s then where our position is one that creates a safe space for investigation; fostering and nurturing their curiosity. ... #ArtShowWeek

15.01.2022 ‘Oh hello! Loose parts.. is that you? Great - I’m glad I could catch you. I just need you to be a few different things today so I can get my work done. I’m thinking you could start off as a piece of wood, but then you could be a phone, a road and then maybe a dinosaur? It might depend on what I feel like at the time, but this afternoon I’ll need you to be a part of a castle. There’s probably more but I’ll let you know as I go. Is that ok? Ha, of course. I know, I know ..... it’s what you’re here for. I appreciate you being so flexible - it makes my learning easier!’ See more

11.01.2022 To take an idea from its conception through to its completion is a satisfying achievement. What incredible things young hands are capable of doing when given time, space and trust.

05.01.2022 Today marks the second anniversary of losing our beloved colleague and friend, Bonnie Gilbert. Bonnie was a builder and driver of the culture and high quality education and care programs in all our Kardinia Early Learning centres. Her influence was extensive and continues to impact our team and families today, through the philosophy and values that she helped create during her 10 years teaching and mentoring at Kardinia. It is important that our organisation always rememb...ers what Bonnie stood for and continue to emulate the passion she exuded for all children... actually, for all people. Bonnie continues to live on in her own children and grandchildren, however, she also lives on here at Kardinia; in our daily practices, the way we educate, love and care for one another. Bonnies message to us is to remember that, ‘Every part of the journey is beautiful'. By this she meant that even in the hard times we can find blessings if we choose to look beyond ourselves and reach out to make others lives better. She was an amazing person who made a difference in the world and whom will never be forgotten.

04.01.2022 We all love a painting to hang on the fridge, don’t we? Whilst is it esteeming for children when their artwork is valued and displayed in an honouring way, a lot of what they gain from creating is in the process of creation rather than the product that is left at the end. That’s why we choose to celebrate creativity in our art show - it’s the good stuff. ... When the brain is busy creating itself, as it does in early childhood, open ended creative exploration acts like kerosene. Light the fire with lots of choice and minimal instruction, and then sit back and watch the inferno. #ArtShowWeek

02.01.2022 I like me. When I make a mistake; I still like me. When I’m different from the people around me; I still like me. When I try my hardest and I still fail, I still like me. ... And you know how I learnt that? Because you remind me that what I bring to the world is completely original and cannot be compared. I like me.

02.01.2022 It’s no secret we love questions; they keep us learning. And in honour of this week’s celebrations we have one for you! What does creativity mean to you? Ponder a moment, and then share with us what’s in your heart and head by adding to our canvas in the foyer. ... #ArtShowWeek
