23.01.2022 As I’m deepening my knowledge & presence around rituals of death I’m fascinated by the rawness of the traditions we now silence. Using the element of sound/song to allow ourselves to tap in to grief and release it is still relevant today. Anyone that’s had that moment where a piece of music or a singer has touched their heart & the eyes have welled up, will understand this , sometimes without any connection to the words being sung but surrendering for the heart to finding re...sonance in the vibration can be so healing. After spending the weekend teaching Reiki to a beautiful group of ladies I was reminded how much fear can sit in the throat chakra. Recognising that the throat chakra is halfway between head & heart and that so much can be silenced or shut down here. Ether with the mind displaying judgement or the heart feeling it’s too big to release it. I allowed myself to release my own voice this weekend and sang in circle for the first time. I’m recognising the strength of expressing all of my heart openly & fully. I’m inviting you to do the same . Listen to that music if that helps to release the trapped emotions , talk to a loved one or friend if you need to, reach out and get some support from a professional counselling service. Grief has no timeline and can fall away and come back in like the waves of the ocean. Holding you in my heart, always

21.01.2022 Losing a pet can just as hard as losing a human person. I know when we lost our first dog here in Australia, Cookie , it pretty much cracked me open to all the old grief I had never felt or allowed to come to the surface. I felt like it was a moment where my heart chose to release all of the heartache that was in my body from all my life. Cookie died suddenly almost overnight from being all ok to the next day vomiting and lethargic and then to vet where he passed away tha...t evening. My biggest regret of that day is I chose to go to work thinking he would be fine and I never got to be with him when he died. Maybe that was what started my understanding of the importance of the doula role. It still touches my heart just writing this- he taught me how to receive unconditional love when I was at desperately low part of my life. We have a river stone with his name on, placed in one of my plants at home now in honour of him. I like to think my dogs now feel his presence in the garden See more

18.01.2022 I discussed this with a client this week about how ever unfolding grief can be. I often find some family members also grieve to witness their mothers or partners grieving for the loss of their loved ones as well as their own relationship they have lost. Grief can be messy & complicated . There is no right way to grieve so just take each day as a new day & hold yourself in compassion to feel what ever needs to come up to be released & ask for help if you need it.
17.01.2022 So much truth to this
17.01.2022 Most definitely!
16.01.2022 For anyone that knows me well, knows that I only am able to do this work as I manage to find the lightness in the dark. This article really made me chuckle because you know a funeral really is a celebration of life not just a mourning of a person. Everyone is different , everyone has different senses of humour and sometimes even when your heart is breaking in grief , we all deserve to feel the lightness of a laugh . https://www.abc.net.au//new-zealand-colourful-c/100072726
15.01.2022 always in your heart
14.01.2022 Today was a good day for making memories & celebrating life. I organised a surprise early birthday for my client today who’s journey with GBM brain tumour is slowing declining .. FYI I got way too many balloons to decorate the table with but it was such a great moment to witness him thriving in the limelight for the day. Today was about FEELING good..... Today was about FEELING loved.. Today was a blessing for all his friends to be around him whilst he was still able to participate in the joys of life- have a glass of champagne & eat some cake.. Today was about making memories and with someone that has little or no short term memory loss- let’s pray it sticks in there!. Being an end of life doula isn’t ONLY about death - it’s about living and being present with gratitude about the time we have on this earth.. And it’s most definitely about make someone smile who’s been living with a a unspeakable diagnosis for 3 years with a terminal prognosis.

13.01.2022 A gentle reminder that really today is all we have - love deeply, laugh loudly, work with integrity & make the change you you wish to see in the world now. We don’t have forever so make it count https://youtu.be/ch8pwy-V1E8
11.01.2022 This week is National Advance Planning week, and I just happened to come across this great episode of New Amsterdam (currently on Netflix) An episode highlighting the needs of holistic Pallative care and end of life discussions. I think the main quote I liked was I was often told death was like ink into water- not a vanishing but an expansion ... NO ONE is too young to do an advance care plan for yourself . Spend some time highlighting what you want at the end of life in case something happens and you can not communicate it to your loved ones . More importantly the gift of giving a well considered plan to a loved one can lighten the burden of grief at a time of loss. We must keep talking about death and dying however uncomfortable it can be for some - this allows us to have a full hearted present life knowing we are aware of all that might be ahead of us weather that be around the corner, tomorrow or in 20-30 years . https://youtu.be/-Ptp0zITgDM

02.01.2022 Amazing I love this idea x
02.01.2022 Such a beautiful way of explaining grief- it’s the one emotion that many people struggle to articulate what it means to them. In my experience it can show up in many difference versions- the main thing is to be compassionate to yourself and allow it to unfold in its own way with no timeline x
01.01.2022 Wakes are such an important part of a funeral. It’s the space where people reconnect, share memories, laugh, cry some more, drink and eat. Some would say, they ...are just as important as the funeral itself. . Grief can be an isolating experience and we want people to not get on with their day but claim the time and space further. Organise a virtual wake with a smaller group or those in your home. . If you are working from home, take the whole day off. Give yourself time, space and seek support. . Go gently... be kind to yourself. . #naturalgracefunerals #naturalgrace #authenticfunerals #sustainablefunerals #melbournefunerals #funeraldirector #holisticfuneraldirector #homebaseddeathcare #vigil #covid19funeral #kindness #weareinthistogether #wake #funeralwakes #funeralwake
