24.01.2022 NO GLOVE... NO LOVE. Things have changed now. I have new protocols in-salon. I take infection control very seriously. My salon safety plan is designed to keep everyone safe, including me. When you come to see me, I ask that you read my extensive COVID-safe plan beforehand and follow my protocols once you arrive. You are required to fill out a declaration-form on the day of your appointment. Any one, even with mild cold or flu like symptoms will be refused treatment. Masks must still be worn inside and can be removed only during your treatment. I am so excited to be back on the tools again. 21.01.2022 MELBOURNE. We’ve got this. I’m so grateful that we live where we live. We are lucky. We can still shop for food and essentials, we have home delivery options, we can still exercise for one hour a day with one other person, we have internet and phones to stay in touch with our friends and families, excellent healthcare and Doctors, nurses, paramedics and essential workers all working their butts off for us and now the weather is improving. 20.01.2022 LAST NIGHT I was lucky enough to attend an Infection Control meeting with a team of Industry leaders to discuss how to navigate and mitigate the spread of infection in our salons. It made everything a lot clearer for me. I still do not know when I will be back in the salon treating clients as there is so much to learn, prepare and instigate before I open my door to anyone. 19.01.2022 DRY HANDS. Constant use of sanitiser and hand washing can damage the integrity of the skin as a barrier, stripping away natural oils and causing hands to become dry, sore and irritated. If you have damaged the skin it becomes less effective as a barrier against infection so moisturising is essential but definitely don’t stop the hand-washing. Try to avoid putting on rubber gloves especially when your hands are still damp. Non-breathable gloves causes moisture to build up a...nd this can actually make your hands more irritated. My little people are now 25 & 22 and sometimes I need to pinch myself and try and remember how I did it. Where did those years go? 17.01.2022 Oh Yum! I’ve just knocked up a batch of these insanely delicious & healthy lemon & lime bliss balls. I’ve been trying so hard to stay away from gluten, dairy and refined sugars since returning from @gwinganna and these tick all the boxes. When I get a craving for something sweet, I know that these will hit the spot and stop me from bingeing on rubbish. Big thanks to Romy @the_integrative_nutritionist for her recipe. Give them a try...so easy! What you need: 400g pitted... dates (Medjool are best to use but if using dried packaged ones from supermarket its best to soak for 10 minutes first covered in boiling water to soften. Then strain water out prior to using) 1 cup raw cashews 1 cup raw almonds cup shredded coconut 1/3 cup white chia seeds (I added linseed as I’d run out of chia) cup sunflower seeds Zest of 1 lemon Juice of 1 lemon Juice of 1 lime Extra coconut for coating What to do: Place all of the ingredients in a food processor and blend until the mixture is well combined and sticks together In a shallow tray sprinkle desiccated/flaked coconut around the tray. Using your hands roll tablespoons of the mixture in to balls then roll around in the coconut. Place balls in a container. Every skin clinic in the state is devastated. As an industry highly regulated and educated in infection control both pre and post covid, we are absolutely flabbergasted that we are unable to operate - considering treating the face for most of us makeup 90 - 95% of our services. We don’...t have a date. Even 0.2 average cases in regional Victoria are not enough for us to be opened. You can visit a pub without a mask. You can visit a restaurant without a mask. You can hire an escort or get a sensual massage without a mask. You can get a beard trim without a mask. But NO. You cannot get a treatment for your acne?? A dentist can work on a patients mouth by using a double barrier (operator wearing a mask and a shield) Home Care workers can attend personal care by wearing a mask and a shield. Injectors can perform injectables on the lips whilst wearing just a mask. CoVid testers safely test 1000s of Victorians without a single transmission by wearing a mask and a shield. But did you know that sitting in front of your computer screen or your devices damages your skin and accelerates ageing & hyperpigmentation, the brown patches on your skin. Blue light from your screens can penetrate the skin far deeper than the UV light from the Sun - passing through the epidermis and dermis to the subcutis layer. 09.01.2022 Dear Mr Premier, As a female led industry, thousands strong, the skin clinics of Victoria - businesses who have made it their purpose to change lives by helping people feel better and alleviate painful skin disorders - are still closed - unable to operate without removing our clients masks. Now, even though masks were discouraged up until mid June, it seems the premier now thinks the future of Victoria hinges on everyone wearing masks in every circumstance - even though the ...rest of the country seems to be operating just fine without them. In fact, masks are not mandated for the public in ANY other state. And it hasn’t caused an issue. In our industry, the PPE we wear is the same as that of a dentist. Or a dental hygienist. Yet a highly infectious situation as teeth cleaning or cosmetic dentistry is now allowed. And we are not. In fact, facial treatments are a much lower risk environment as clients generally don’t speak much while they are receiving a treatment. We’ve proposed to also wear a shield in addition, if a double layer is what you’re after. After all, this is safe enough for those testing for suspected covid cases. And nurses on the COVID wards treating confirmed cases. So why isn’t it safe enough in an environment where the likelihood of having a client with COVID is now extremely low. Oh yes, odds of contracting COVID in Victoria is now 1 in 1million. The odds of getting struck by lightening is 1-17000. Do we have a stay at home order when there’s lightening? No. Strangely though, it seems in fact that Doctor owned clinics, largely owned by males, are being given a free pass. Their clinicians have the same education as our clinicians. And yet these clinics are allowed to perform the very same treatments we are not allowed to perform? TV hosts are having their makeup applied daily by makeup artists on set. Does the virus behave differently in these settings perhaps? Our colleagues in NSW have operated safely without any reinfections happening in a clinic - there HAS however been clusters linked to pubs, restaurants, shops and many other industries. Even though it’s been wonderful chatting online and by phone, I am unable to touch your skin. Touch has been found, among other things, to reduce stress, heart rate and blood pressure. Touch has even been found to lower the level of cortisol in the body (especially in women) which, when elevated, impedes our working memory and, most critically, the immune system's resiliency. 05.01.2022 ISO LIFE has made me realise how little I need. I’ve pretty much been living in the same clothes, enjoying long walks and eating simply. I am enjoying my time at home and I’ve really started to slow down. All that time to think and just be, has made me reassess my life balance. What I thought was important before rona doesn’t seem so important anymore. I think I’m still in a state of shock with everything that’s going on. So surreal. I still don’t know when I will be allowed to treat clients again but when I do, things will be different for me personally and professionally. 04.01.2022 AS WE EDGE CLOSER TO THE END OF 2020 ... where do I begin? What a year! Surprisingly it has gone by very quickly. Is that because I was in Covid haze most of the year? Looking back, as sad as the year was, I am grateful for the time I personally had to reflect, stop, slowdown and appreciate how lucky I am. My little business survived and that was because of your continued loyalty and the amazing support of AST who were always there for me offering education, workshops and so ...much generosity. It’s bizarre that I have only worked 52 days this year. I really enjoyed doing my virtual consultations and met some amazing new clients, whom I probably would never have met. I discovered some amazing streets in Caulfield & surrounds. I taught myself some culinary skills that I never knew I had, as well as my new art passion. I redecorated my home, decluttered and my garden has never looked better. My husband continues to be my hero, it’s been a very rough year for him and his incredible medical team working on the frontline. I hope and pray that 2021 is a better year for us all, that we continue to stay safe, healthy and that the new vaccine is successful. Thank you again for being in my life this year.
