25.01.2022 A corner of my desk. I don't have a big ritual when I sit down to write, but I do like to burn some essential oils. At the moment I'm loving Peace. It's a heady mix of vetiver, ylang ylang, lavender and frankincense amongst others and it really takes me into my imagination. My mug reminds me that I'm creating magic, which is a pretty awesome thing to be doing every day!!

23.01.2022 I remember when I was in high school, there was a girl in my class who was AMAZING at art. I’m sure there was more than one, but she stands out in my mind as ‘the arty one’. And guess what extremely wrong equation I came up with? She is good at art and therefore I am not. Ridiculous, I know, but I believed that for years and years. Like years. But I did feel good at writing and I am a serial journaler, so when I discovered the Artist’s Way at around the age of 43, I was in ...my element. This process by Julia Cameron involves (among other exercises) writing three pages of stream of consciousness every day for 3 months, otherwise known as the morning pages. This exercise allowed for many hidden falsities to bubble up from deep below the surface. Dusting off this story about my lack of artistic talent, I enrolled in an art class and found out that I COULD create visual art, I’m no Picasso but I’m not a terrible artist either! (See image of my shoe!) Though my preferred medium is definitely the written word when it comes to creating art, I learnt that with a teacher I could create in other ways. A good writer can also learn so much from a good editor and as an editor, I too can be that guide. In fact, I often prefer sculpting someone else’s words than trying to write my own!

22.01.2022 Though the lack of apostrophe in 'I'm' is oh so ironic, the sentiment is right! Funnily enough, I'm ghostwriting a book with superheroes at the moment!

22.01.2022 My latest blog post! Please read and share

15.01.2022 What's the difference between a cat and a comma? A cat has claws at the end of its paws, and a comma is a pause at the end of its clause!

13.01.2022 Regency is all the rage at the moment what with the Bridgerton binge-fest, Sanditon and the ever popular Jane Austen remakes. If you love this era, I can recommend a new series of books written by a friend of mine, Rosalie Oaks. The Lady Diviner series is an entertaining mix of paranormal cozy mystery/Regency romance. This first-in-series book is a delight to read. The characters consist of Miss Elinor Avely, a forthright and occasionally foolish young lady with the ability ...to divine jewels. Miss Aldreda Zooth is a feisty vampiri and occasionally naked side kick to Elinor. Elinor’s brother, Peregrine is really quite endearing and the broody but dashing Earl of Beresford round out a cast that fills the pages with mystery, humour and excitement. Expect both high teas and high seas in this entertaining, tightly written and well-paced novel. See more

13.01.2022 I loved all your fave book recommendations last week. Now who are your favourite female authors? I’m always blown away by Jeanette Winterson. That woman can write. Barbara Kingsolver is an amazing storyteller The Poisonwood Bible. Ursula K. Le Guin what a wordsmith, a true master of the English language.

12.01.2022 Last year I joined a networking group, NRG. Local businesses meet monthly all over Perth. I joined Cockburn and the meetings are usually well attended, always welcoming and interesting. You can also visit other groups to widen your reach as long as no one else from your industry is there, though I have yet to get out of my introverted comfort zone to do so! They also off free training to help business owners grow and gain skills. It’s so good to know what local services are in your area and also the chance of picking up business from them. Tuesday morning I won the door prize! Next week I get a free consult from a financial advisor for retirement and a bottle of wine! #winning #nrg
