25.01.2022 There is a movement that would be great to have in Eden-Monaro. It would be similar to Voices of Indi that has been very successful in getting an Independent elected. The Westminster system was never designed to be dominated by parties. It was supposed to have a group of individuals all working for the common good of the people and the country. I firmly believe that we should have a system in place where representatives are working for their electorate without having to oper...ate under a Party and their rules. The Prime Minister would be voted in by the people, not their party. It wouldn't be a case of who is next in line, it would be who is the most suitable to lead our nation. I am very happy to give my energy to a Voices of Eden Monaro if there are others to support it. It works in a way that the movement becomes active and the best person is chosen later on in the process. Lots of volunteers are needed for it to be a success. Thoughts please or PM me if you have comments or ideas. We have about a year or so until a Federal Election is on the table again. Karen
21.01.2022 I have been talking to a range of people about the difficulties that they have had in setting up a business in Cooma. There is way too much red tape and Council has full control over this. I think we should be encouraging and boosting commerce and industry in Cooma as it is a hub for our area. Making land more attractive to buy and having lifestyle size blocks to encourage people to move here would be a great start. ... We don't want Cooma to become a ghost town and we don't want to have to travel over an hour to buy anything that isn't groceries and hardware. I would love to hear your thoughts. Karen Porter
19.01.2022 Our electorate deserves so much more than fake promises from the Morrison Government. Well done Kristy McBain for sticking up for us
15.01.2022 If you don’t know what the Snowy Monaro Rural Land Use Strategy is or what the implications of the proposed plan are for you as a land owner / user in the Snowy Monaro region, then you need to do some research before it is too late. I have put a link below to a web site that is run by concerned land owners and they have dug deep on the issu and there is a lot of comprehensive information on it. Please check it out. It looks like Council will be extending the deadline for com...ment which will hopefully enable better communication with land owners in our Shire. I would love to see some town/village meetings over a longer period of time so that everyone can get their head around what the changes mean to them. Bega Valley Shire the Ezones in place since 2013 and since that time they have suffered with reduced land values, difficulty in selling their land, they have had the inability to prepare for fires, inability to assess bushfire funding and restrictions on how they use their land. The Facebook group with lots of valuable information is: https://www.facebook.com/groups/169031471552609 https://stoprlus.org/
13.01.2022 Some truthful reporting away from mainstream media. I can't stand corrupt political activity or politicians with self interest. These people were elected to represent their people and their electorate, not their own pockets.
13.01.2022 The dates have been extended to 1 February 2021, I believe it should be 6 months but at least Council listened. Please read through this draft and put your comments in. Look out for public consultations and attend as this will affect you in some way.
12.01.2022 Many people in our area are concerned about the closure of Country Target and that we don't have access to an outlet where we can buy children's clothes, uniforms, household goods etc. It would be great to have an outlet where we can easily pop in and pick up these items without having to do online buying or travel to Canberra. I am approaching Council, Chamber of Commerce Cooma, and Cooma Progress Association to see how we can change this. There seems to be two issues: 1. ... lack of retail space or availability of land in Cooma 2. inability to entice an outlet to come to Cooma Some other regional towns have managed to fix this issue by introducing a cooperative which is owned by the people. I raised this late last year and asked for some volunteers to work with me on it but only one resident put up her hand. There has to be a way to fix this issue, any ideas are welcome. Karen
11.01.2022 What are your thoughts on a rail trail from Queanbeyan to Nimmitabel? What are your thoughts on a rail trail from Queanbeyan to Nimmitabel?
11.01.2022 The Zali Steggle bill on a Climate Change must be passed as our future relies on it. Kristy McBain will support. Her speech is Parliament is here https://www.facebook.com/939571409499551/posts/3148456828610987/
09.01.2022 This is a very big issue in our Shire at the moment and the wrong decision by our Council could be detrimental in the future. The Rural Land Use Strategy will guide land use for the next 20 years. Issues relate to minimum lot size, primary production farming land, lot averaging provisions and environmental zones. It is also important to note that our current council is in caretaker mode and it is my opinion that a decision this big should wait for the newly appointed Council... after September to consider it. We also need to make sure that every town and village has sufficient time to have their voices heard. The deadline for submissions is 1 February and I feel that this is not sufficient time, considering the magnitude of the matter. What are your thoughts? You have 2 weeks to submit your submission and it is best to do individual ones rather than group ones. Submissions can be addressed to [email protected]
08.01.2022 Please donate as every bit will help this family to get closer to treatment
07.01.2022 It is a shame that Cooma will be left without any decent retail outlets once Country Target and possibly Millers and Rivers close their stores. Not everyone does online shopping. Is everyone happy with this as it seems that the Snowy Monaro Council and the Chamber of Commerce are not fighting for the town. This is not just about Cooma, it is about 14,000 people in Cooma and the little towns that surround it. We have a big rural community that shops in Cooma.... Where is the Strategic Plan for retail businesses and their long term plans for this town?
06.01.2022 Please sign this petition to show Council that we are not happy with these changes
