25.01.2022 Great recognition would be better if Australia could do so!!
22.01.2022 Great to hear Parliament has done something constructive this week; [article by Lucy Cowcher-Guthrie] I am pleased that the Senate has supported the Greens motion calling for a national reparations scheme for survivors of the Stolen Generations and their families.... We know that members of the Stolen Generations face long-term disadvantage including poorer health and social outcomes, Australian Greens spokesperson on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Issues Senator Rachel Siewert said. No amount of money can ever be enough for the pain and intergenerational trauma that was caused by the policies of many Australian Governments that took children from their parents and families, simply because they were Aboriginal. It is well and truly time that this was on the agenda. We need to take action to address the past wrongs and the terrible injustices. I call on my colleagues to work together, with First Nations peoples for a reparations scheme for survivors of the Stolen Generations and their families. The motion reads: Senator Siewert to move That the Senate: (a) acknowledges the release of the report by Australian Institute of Health and Welfare and the Healing Foundation, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Stolen Generations and descendants: Numbers, demographic characteristics and selected outcomes; (b)recognises: (i)that the report found that Australia’s Stolen Generations face long-term disadvantage for a range of measures, including poorer health and social outcomes, and (ii) survivors of the Stolen Generations are three times more likely to have been imprisoned in the past five years; (c) acknowledges that the negative effects of forced removal are not limited to those directly removed; descendants also consistently experience poorer health and social outcomes; and (d) urges the Federal Government to urgently address the effects of unresolved intergenerational trauma, and implement a national reparations scheme for survivors of the Stolen Generations and their families.

10.01.2022 We’re very excited to see recognition for Aboriginal rice, and whether agri-retailers take it up as a commercial product. Native Australian rice was harvested a...nd consumed by Aboriginal people for thousands of years before settlement. This is an in-depth study of its retail potential and hopefully the first step to seeing this amazing native superfood staple available for all Australians to enjoy. 08.01.2022 I have a confession. I have not yet made my Overwintering Portfolio Print!!! Lucky it is a long term project! But I have got two bigger works on display at Mo...onah - a new direction for me. Eco-printed paper overprinted with linocuts. The work is based on the Victorian Ramsar site of Western Port, also called Westenport Bay. It’s the first place I ever saw Bar-tailed Godwits in real life, although this work features other species including a Whimbrel. #theoverwinteringproject #theoverwinteringprojectmappingsanctuary #moonahartscentre #ecoprint #linocut #westernport #westernportbay See more
