16.01.2022 Parenting in the early years is a tough gig. There is so much reward, but also so much you simply have to let go of (career, clean house, sleep, doing what you ...want when you want, sleeping in...) - which can lead to feelings of frustration, disappointment, resentment, anger... I like these specific reasons for understanding some of those early feelings in parenting - I especially remember the 'touched out' feeling - nursing one and a few toddlers hanging off my neck and arms and always wanting cuddles. Gorgeous - but, let's be real, tiring too. It's OK and perfectly normal to have some big feelings during the parenting journey that are less than sunshine and lollipops.

15.01.2022 Sharing and talking about books provides the best learning, and you don't need to read cover to cover. It's okay to read slowly, skip pages, talk about the pict...ures and not finish the book. Making story time fun for you and your child is more important than finishing. 10.01.2022 What is a grapheme? Is a letter the same as a grapheme? Words are made of sounds (phonemes) and these are represented by graphemes (written symbols which are l...etters). English has a complex alphabetic code so graphemes can be spelled by more than one letter. See explanation below. When we teach kids to read with phonics we start with 1 letter graphemes and gradually introduce 2, 3 and 4 letter graphemes. See more

08.01.2022 These are indeed scary and confusing times, and things are changing so rapidly. My head is spinning with each news update To my valued clients and their families, my clinic hours remain the same. Until Queensland Health advises differently, my clinic remains open for face to face consultations. I am also offering teletherapy services, which means that speech pathology sessions are done over the computer or iPad or phone! All you need is a camera, microphone and the interne...t! Research shows this can be as effective as face to face therapy, across all age groups and diagnoses, so Im hoping that we can embrace this new challenge together and maintain your / your childs therapy routines and consistency even if we cant see each other face to face in the clinic. The sessions Ive done so far have been very positive, with a Steep learning curve for me and a few laughs too! Please stay safe, positive and healthy and do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss any aspect of your speech pathology, present or future! With best wishes, Karin
