21.01.2022 This morning I dropped the kids to daycare and I got to work in my beautiful studio space, ALL DAY. It’s amazing how much work you can get done in a day on your own! For those who haven’t heard I’ve resigned from my part time job and have taken the leap ... I’m now solely working for myself so I thought today would be really fulfilling... but to be honest I think reality set in I realised my safety net is well and truly gone! With that feeling came a lot of doubt and my... anxiety levels were at an all time high ... but if there’s one thing I’ve learnt through starting a small business, it’s that you have to back yourself and your vision so I reminded myself to take it day by day and stay focused on my future goals. 21.01.2022 Hi everyone this is me! The face behind the madness ... I just wanted to reintroduce myself and share a bit of an insight into what has driven me to start ...this small business. Firstly, thank you for following! This week I’ve hit 15K followers wow! It’s crazy to know that there are 15,000 people joining my journey . What a lot of you might not know is that I previously worked in fashion as a graphic designer. I was so content - growing my little fam and working in a company that I loved. However 2018 wasn’t overly kind to us. My husband had to go through open heart surgery and not long after that the company I was working for was bought out and underwent a massive restructure. Along with my colleagues I was made redundant (while on maternity leave ). Having two young children who were 9months and 4years old at the time, and neither my husband or I able to work, you can say we hit a pretty low place ... and my confidence in myself and my work had hit rock bottom. It was preeeeetty bad . However through the tough times in my life I’ve always been pulled back to art & illustrating - and 2018 put everything into perspective to me . Looking back I could not be more grateful for being pushed in this direction Life is just too damn short. So after a lot of encouragement from my family and beautiful friends (including my former colleagues who are still such a big part of my life) this year I decided to start my illustration business... to allow me to focus on what makes me feel fulfilled and happy. I created a few artworks and started my online store in April 2019. Since then I’ve recently quit my part time job and am creating and running my business full time. There are days where I feel like everything is smooth sailing and I can’t believe my luck... and then there are days (like last night) where I’m up at all hours trying to figure out what the hell I’ve done wrong with my Facebook ads . I am so grateful for every follow, every like, every comment, every purchase. You have no idea how much it means to me . So a huge thank you for joining me. 16.01.2022 My why The driving force behind everything I do. Showing my kids the importance of turning up everyday and doing things with humility, love, persistence and consistency has always been so important to me. Mum has forever said to us, always do things with love. Love and hard work... because nothing comes without hard work (unless you fluke it and win the lotto ). I often sing the Aaliyah song to Ivy - dust yourself off and try again The motto in our house is try, try a...nd try again and never give up until you achieve what you set out to do even when you cop a few knocks on the way. This week especially I really feel like I have been able to physically show them what you can achieve with hard work and love. 14.01.2022 As this year comes to an end and we head into another possible covid lockdown I have been doing a bit of reflecting. 2020 has been such a hard year for all however there have been a few moments that made 2020 really special for me. Creating this original to raise money for the bushfires without a doubt would have had to have been my proudest and most fulfilling professional moment of 2020 (to say the least.) By mid Jan the fires in Australia were incomprehensible... the amou...nt of loss we experienced shook me to the core. After donating more money than I could keep track of and still feeling so helpless I decided to put myself out there and sell my first ever original painting in hopes that I would raise a bit more money than I could give to the charities myself. I auctioned this original right here on Instagram and raised $6200. I’ve never cried more happy tears in my life. All money raised went to two incredible organisations, @treading_lightly_inc and @portmacquariekoalahospital . 12.01.2022 Around 2 years ago today I was in a terrible place - financially, mentally, emotionally. We had a really rough year and after being made redundant at the end of July I was finding it incredibly hard to find a part time job in graphic design (on top of my full time job of being a mum to ivy 4 and beau 1). I went to interviews but copped rejection after rejection. Safe to say my confidence was completely shot. I‘d had dreams of starting my own illustration business for a while.... I had sketches... a very rough business plan... but I didn’t think I was good enough at what I did for it to become anything worth putting my energy into. If I couldn’t even get a job, how would I get people to purchase artworks that I had created? By chance I stumbled on this post by @startupcreative (posted 21st Dec 2018.) The moment you decide to set a clear intention, hold firm to your vision and truly believe that all things are possible, you will witness the miracle of designing and living the life of your dreams. Be the creator of your own reality. Not a victim to circumstance. I often look back on this post. It’s a nice reminder of how far I’ve come, professionally but mostly personally Thinking back to the person I was when I first read this post to the person I am now makes me so emotional Thank you @startupcreative for posting this two years ago it was just what I needed to hear. 03.01.2022 Anyone who knows me knows I’m not the most overly organised person. I tend to do things last minute and kind of wing it most of the time... I’m a I’ll deal with the problems when they arise sorta person usually leading to a chaotic scramble right before the event. So in my usual unorganised fashion at about 8pm on Thursday night I thought - I’d better put the @kollabcollection products on my site. Maybe I should also send out an email to my subscribers to get the ball rol...ling... and I might do a Instagram post in the morning to tell people it’s available. This lead to rushing, scrambling, me cursing myself for leaving it till the last minute yet again. I went to bed at midnight and as soon as my head hit the pillow Beau started calling out all I could think was, why do I do this to myself And then... I woke up to that response I honestly did not expect to sell out on the first day. That’s just insane. I’m continuously so shocked and grateful for the love and support, you have no idea how much it means to me. I am so glad you love the range. Thank you so much for all of the DM’s, comments and emails! They mean so much to me - if I haven’t already, I promise I’ll try to get back to you all ASAP. I’m SO grateful to have such a beautiful bunch of people alongside me, following this journey. Once again, Thank you, thank you, thank you...
