17.01.2022 I could write my own post, but why reinvent the wheel when I can post one from the Chief Commissioner for SA and say to each one of you - Thank You! Graham Phillips District Commissioner Karkana District ... Thank you for volunteering National Volunteering Week kicked off yesterday and I wanted to say a very big thank you to all of our Scouting volunteers. Without you we would not have a Movement and without a Movement we wouldn’t have strong, independent and resilient youth. I know your rewards are personally seeing your youth members grow, flourish and achieve so I commend you for your contribution. Many people have put their hand up during this pandemic because they now have the extra time to volunteer which is wonderful to see but all of our volunteers fit this in with all of their other life demands. Bravo to all of you! This week you are in the spotlight for your time and tireless energy. Jan Turbill, Chief Commissioner and all of Chief’s Council.

16.01.2022 From Sydney Morning Herald Today: SERIOUSLY?????? In Poole, southern England, authorities revised plans to remove a statue of Robert Baden-Powell to protect it from attack after supporters of the Scouts founder objected. It was boarded up instead. Baden-Powell has been accused of racism and Nazi sympathies. #AllLivesMatter

09.01.2022 Scouts SA Appeal Please help us help you ... Dear Leaders, Rovers, Adult Helpers and Committee Members, Our businesses; our marketing capacity; Woodhouse; dedicated staff are the reason that we have the cheapest Branch membership fees, the cheapest Scout Group insurance premiums and the best resourced activity sections in Australian Scouting. Conversely, we have the very best volunteers, trainers and Commissioners in the nation and this is reflected in our participation rate which is double that of any State and Territory Branch except the ACT. After saying that, COVID-19 has hit our businesses; Woodhouse Activity Centre, Scout Recycling Centre, Scout Outdoor Centre, Annapurna, Titanium Security Arena and Roonka, all very significantly. This, in addition to the 75% Scout Branch fee reduction, puts us in territory that is very alien to us. Our Scout Outdoor Centre, in particular, is on the edge. Of course, you all know these current pressures from your own employment and businesses and many South Australian have already lost their means of making a living. Your company or business has probably already reached out to its client base or customers in an attempt to keep contact. We are all fighting to be in the best position for when the ‘recovery’ begins. This message (on behalf of the Chief Commissioner, The Scouts SA BEC and the CEO) is to ask you to continue supporting Scouting. Not only in your own volunteering, but in supporting whenever you can, the businesses that support you. We have noticed some material directed at Scout Groups from Snowy’s and other competitors to our Scout Outdoor Centres. And, we acknowledge that some of our product lines are not the ‘bulk purchase’ discounted back-packs that Snowy’s and Anaconda can deliver To survive as a Scout Uniform Shop, we just cannot compete in those ‘National markets’ but what we do ask that you consider, that any purchase you make, or any business that you or your Scout Group give one of our businesses, returns money to Scouting in South Australia. Conversely, any money you spend in a competitor business takes cash away from Scouting. We would be very, very, grateful if you could share this message with as many as possible and we ask that you give our Scout businesses and Activity Centres the first look at your outdoor clothing and equipment purchase, Family or Group Camping, Weddings, birthdays, day trips, or Recycling opportunity to help you in every purchase you make. Our Chief Commissioners recent message had three important pillars to a strong recovery from COVID-19: Recruitment Retention Financial support to Scout Groups Supporting our businesses at every opportunity will help us support your group in all three of these pillars. Thank you Dan Ryan Jan Turbill CEO Chief Commissioner

06.01.2022 Free Fun Home delivered by Scouts SA Distribution of Promotional Material July 2020... Dear Group Leader / Leader in Charge, Further to the Chief Commissioner’s Free Fun Vlog ( https://youtu.be/k7NQf6bp-JU ) where Jan explains the strength of Free Fun to your Group and the Association as a whole, we are pleased to provide some promotional material for you to use in your community. If you have not yet watched Jan’s Vlog you are encouraged to do so. She highlights the what, how, why and where of Free Fun which in short is; o We are launching Free Fun as our gift to the Community o It is an opportunity to reach thousands of young people not yet in Scouts. o It is not the Scout Program Just a taste of learning by doing while having fun. o It will hopefully give you something to promote in your community as you wish, and o We don’t expect you to do any more than you are now. Having said that we are all keen to grow our Scout Group numbers. You can help grow Free Fun and in turn grow Scouting in your Group, by inviting non-Scout members to try Free Fun via the posters and flyers. These would look great in community centres, sporting clubs, libraries or schools. As our Chief Commissioner has said, this is not an expectation, it is an opportunity. If you would like more posters and flyers please contact [email protected] or call Scout HQ 1800 SCOUTS and speak to Jodie or Kathrine.
