25.01.2022 Over the phone since 2014... Yep, when I started my Nutrition and Health Coaching, consultations over the phone was a strange way to assist others with their goals. But the only doable answer in helping my clients Australia wide. Fast forward to 2020 and here I am, still delivering and mentoring clients each day over the phone - not on Zoom or Skype - for the reason, YOU can keep your PJ's on and not have to worry about how you look - but we still attack the important stuf...f because that's all that really matters. Connection and accountability. Daylight savings differences though.. ha that is another matter... www.karlagilbert.com.au

25.01.2022 Whats for dinner?? For plant-based eaters and vegans/vegetarians, you will rejoice in these burgers that are based on the wholefood teff and full of resistant starch (hello healthy gut)

25.01.2022 We should always try to keep the bigger picture and longer-term goal in mind when teaching little ones to eat.

24.01.2022 LIFE FUEL - thankyou so much Sue... Sue recently completed a 4 week one on one package with me - and she was a superstar, doing everything we spoke about and really applying herself to self- improvement. We worked on healing from the inside out and here is what she said... "I am a Melbourne mum in lockdown for what feels like forever. I am also a nurse. So in between shifts and homeschooling 3 kids, I felt like I did not have much left for me at the end of the day. During Cov...id, I have had a very hard time prioritizing my health and wellbeing. I am already at a healthy weight and have always eaten and exercised well. However, I felt like I have been eating a little too much recently and needed to control my eating. So I decided to control my diet by restricting my foods. I guess it was a coping mechanism. My relationship with food and diet turned extreme. I would find myself not eating all day or following some new fancy online diet that promised quick results only to find that 3 days in I would overeat massively. Restrictive dieting is extremely hard to maintain both mentally and physically, my body couldn't keep up and this was having a very negative effect on my mental health as I felt like I was putting on weight. I have a history of purging and this began again. I was extremely upset with myself and felt like I had lost all control. I was overwhelmed by the thought of weight loss and what to do. With so much going on around me I was vulnerable and embarrassed. I felt that this is not something middle-aged women should seek help for. But I knew I needed help, I needed support. A quick google search found multiple areas of help. However, Karla stuck out to me, I found her relatable, a healthy working mum with health and family a priority. In just 4 weeks Karla helped me 'get it right.' I did not think 4 weeks would shift my mindset, but it did. Karla helped me ditch the constant dieting and night time binges. Karla showed me that I had the ability to control my eating patterns and to prioritise health once again. Karla helped me find a strategic set of habits that support healthy eating and a friendlier approach to food. I felt out of control. I did not want anyone to know, however keeping this a secret was breaking me. Speaking to Karla was exactly what I needed to do. Karla helped me unlock so many emotions and realisations. She helped me understand intuitive eating, she taught me ways to build new habits and decondition old ones. My brain feels reprogramed. Since my 4 weeks with Karla I have stopped dieting and lost weight and feel so much more in control of my food. I have also ditched the scales, my daily morning ritual. Like Karla said, 'one day the ice cream in the freezer will be as exciting as a bag of peas.' Thank you again Karla." Thankyou Sue x

24.01.2022 Until we are at a place of peace with ourselves and coming from the angle of self-compassion will we ever be in a state of growth. This is a heartfelt subject for many - but very underestimated in it's importance being the first step to improving dietary and physical habits. Here is the full article that appeared in News Corp Australia Weekend Magazine last weekend... http://ironmumkarla.com.au/2020/07/confident-your-body.html

24.01.2022 The age of lockdown has a lot to answer for. Perhaps theres been overconsumption of chocolate or alcohol as we deal with the upheaval of the unknown. 23.01.2022 Wow, thankyou Andrew Sculley for finding this gem and sending it through. It is rare to see a video of me competing in nippers and this is probably my most memorable event. 1986 Freezing cold Warnambool in VIC was one to remember! Not only having to compete against the boys to make the QLD state team (only 4 per age group) but to beat the boys in the 11yrs board race as a young girl at the national titles was pretty special... sorry boys Gotta love the moments - I can see ...a false start in one event and out of time marchpaster is golden! 17.01.2022 A mind shift or small change to your daily routine can add up to big gains 3-6 months down the track. Sometimes we pussyfoot around facts that could help unlock stubborn weight loss or fitness goals. Here are the usual culprits http://ironmumkarla.com.au//6-small-tweaks-weight-loss-str

16.01.2022 Who loves a good HIIT workout? It's certainly not for everyone but how hard do you really have to go?

16.01.2022 Humans do not have to follow each instinct or automatic signal from their brain. We all have the unique capacity to think about what we do and change what we do. . Unfortunately, for many, lockdown has brought forth a cascade of emotions and situations, mixed with a loss of routine. Pleasure is being sought by drinking the hard stuff or overindulging in food. And of course, what initiates as a search for a dopamine hit fast becomes a wired habit, with an attempt to undo the ...damage. . It is difficult to change if we dont know whats going on in our heads but we do have the capacity to override the automatic and instinctual parts of the brain through easily understandable steps . 12.01.2022 Emotions are great drivers and influence on our eating habits. But escaping our unpleasant feelings with food means there is never a tolerance developed or space to discover that feelings do subside Asking ourselves "Will doing this make me feel better or worse right now?" "Will it make me feel better or worse tomorrow?" If you say yes to both - it's a healthy coping strategy - if not- its more than likely linked to a response from stress.

09.01.2022 While it is easy to grab a low-calorie bar from the supermarket - these highly processed foods don't require as much energy to break down as say a 'whole food' version. Our body sends signals and cries for help through cravings and usually, they are cries for nutrients. Not calories - nutrients. So to turn off that internal voice that wants to count calories and instead focus on what is in the actual food - this is the holy grail to 'feeling' energy. These bars are a great place to start ;)

07.01.2022 Little taste buds love anything sweet but how do you rein things in if you feel a little has become too much?

07.01.2022 Sometimes even the best nutrition doesn’t cut it when you are severely iron deficient. Suffering dysmenorrhea for quite a few years now, the ‘iron’ was certainly taken from the ‘ woman’ I’m now looking forward to feeling better with iron infusions spaced 2 weeks apart. 3 down 1 to go !

04.01.2022 During these times the media world has coped a full blown front to their industry. Its a sad time for regional papers in Australia and this weekend marks my final column piece that has featured fortnightly for the past couple of years News Corp Australia Its been a fun ride and I hope youve enjoyed reading my ramblings on the health and fitness front. A message for the kids out there.. work hard in your English lessons, you never know when it will come in handy!... #healthcoach #nutrition #fitness

04.01.2022 Pregnancy and childbirth can stretch and weaken the pelvic floor muscles that support the bladder and urethra. Its common that with the loss of oestrogen after menopause these connective tissues lose their elasticity. There are foods that can make matters worse, so it may be worthwhile knowing which ones to avoid and have a 'better day'. http://ironmumkarla.com.au//11-foods-to-avoid-if-you-have-

04.01.2022 Why is nutrition so important to our overall mental state? Quite simply we just can't 'get away with it'. Our body and mind are wired to keep score.

04.01.2022 What are some of yours that you could add to my list?

04.01.2022 It's certainly a quick fix and avoids a lot of issues at mealtimes but is it good for the long haul?

02.01.2022 So nice to be teaming up with my old training partner and amazing human Ky Hurst again in a couple of weeks at the Surf Life Saving Queensland #2021qldstatechamps. Not competing.. but joining Ty Burleigh Swim Run in the commentary box for live stream to SBS_Australia

02.01.2022 Habits are just like plants. Much like designing a garden, you can design good habits into your life - which start with a seed, in a good spot and nurture it. On the flip side, you may also find weeds crop up. These bad habits also started as a seed, found a good spot, and were nurtured.... To stay on top of your garden growing out of control and much like habits, you will watch for weeds so you can uproot them when they are still small. Through consistent monitoring, if you uproot them early before they grow into a challenging problem then this is what I refer to as the 'nirvana' of sustainable positively focussed habits. For more information on Nutrition and Health Coaching packages pdf please visit www.karlagilbert.com.au

02.01.2022 Fun times in the commentary box today with Ty and Ky for @sbs_australia and @lifesavingqld state titles live stream. Tune in today 2-4 pm or catch the action on @sbsondemand
