23.01.2022 As long as I have been a trainer I have seen people suffering from mental health issues related to their physical health: from despair & anxiety about their body shape & size to the depression that so often accompanies chronic diseases. Scientists have long know the link between the brain & gut, with 90% of our serotonin is made in our gut. Serotonin regulates your mood, appetite, sleep, memory, body temperature, learning abilities. Serotonin is used in the gut to control peri...staltic contractions that keeps our food and fluids moving. This is partly why people who have anxiety & depression have digestive issues. Here’s only 4 things on the list that are the worst things for the gut healthy microbes - #1 Alcohol - Gin decreased the number of beneficial gut bacteria, whereas red wine actually increased the abundance of bacteria known to promote gut health and decreased the number of harmful gut bacteria like Clostridium. The beneficial effect of moderate red wine consumption on gut bacteria appears to be due to its polyphenol content. Polyphenols are plant compounds that escape digestion and are broken down by gut bacteria. They may also help reduce blood pressure and improve cholesterol. # 2 Antibiotic use- Antibiotics can affect the diversity and composition of the gut flora, even in cases of short-term use. This can have harmful effects on gut bacteria that may last for as long as two years. #3 Lack of regular exercise- Regular physical activity promotes the growth of beneficial gut bacteria, including Bifidobacterium and Akkermansia. These positive effects are not seen in individuals who are inactive. #4 Smoking has detrimental effects on nearly every organ in the body. Giving up smoking can improve gut health by increasing the diversity of the gut flora, and this can occur after only nine weeks. One study in 30 obese women found that taking a daily prebiotic supplement for three months promoted the growth of the healthy bacteria Bifidobacterium and Faecalibacterium. How to Improve Gut Health-Eat more prebiotic foods, Consume more probiotics, Make time for quality sleep, Reduce stress, Eat foods rich in polyphenols, stay active. #wholistichealth #guthealthmatters

22.01.2022 Colour Run memories with my children. As a coach, as a mother and as being a athlete one ethic that is important to me is to have a go! I’d rather try, work to get into to the arena and see what I have got then to not try at all. Life is for us to push beyond things comfortable and known to get into a unknown place and see what magic lives in that space when you just have a go! #haveago #getinthearena #sport

12.01.2022 Being able to get out of your comfort zone is definitely a skill and what most people find is change and growth in that zone. I love seeing clients take the challenge to go there.
