21.01.2022 An update on Tommy Tiger....Tommy is now 4 weeks old and is now drinking 6 x 400ml bottles a day! He hangs out with his bestie Silky and sleeps in the penthouse pen with her and Poppy, her mum(who has taken to looking out for him but wont feed him). I just took these photos as the herd have been hanging around the shed today out of the sun and are just moving off for the days grazing.

21.01.2022 Banksy - not named after the UK dude, but because her mum gave birth to her and her brother Ripple, down along side the Wild Dog Creek. The story goes that this particular doe always escaped to free range to kid each year. Weve had her babies born in numerous places on the property incl up the Zig Zag hill and in a hollow near a tree stump and this particular year down on the southern end of the flats, beside the creek. A very hot day it was and beside the running water was the coolest place she could get to. However, after the kids were born they both proceeded to waddle around and fall into the shallow water- we found Rip standing in the creek and this doe kid? - under an overhanging bank completely hidden from view. My grandson found her and she was named on the spot

18.01.2022 Remember Opium? She was born in 2014, along with her brother Morph, to our California Poppy doe. Her sister Moondust is our herds top milker and we were about to put Opium in kid for the first time. Yesterday she didnt quite make it over a gate (she is the ONLY goat in the herd who jumps gates and fences). Today full of Penicillin, Finadyne and strapping to keep her leg stabilised she is off to Colac for a vet visit.... More to come! See more

09.01.2022 Goats are HERBIVORES, the el primo foragers and browsers on the farm - you will see them self medicating on barks and leaves of specific plants when sick...therefore herbal treatments work like a bomb for them. So Opium is being fed bone healing Comfrey, pain relieving Willow, Rosehips for her immune system and Plantain for helpful healing for her surgical wound. Whats the result of all that? 09.01.2022 So what really is free range? and how many farms can really say they do? And what is ethical? and how many farms really are? Is the answer to condemn all farms that are not? Our goat herd IS free range and ethically farmed....they can range for kms if they choose to and our wethers get far more than a brief glimpse of life- they are indeed the lucky ones BUT... in a vegan world there would be no farmed animals (as most farms have boundaries) so true free range is not possible...therefore there would be negligible amounts of cows, sheep, pigs and goats...and these animals who are not free ranged and ethically farmed would quite simply never exist....ever. #ponderthis #karmicgoat #fernsidestud #thegateisnevershut
