A RED ALERT is current for people in or near communities between Mardie and Whim Creek including Point Samson, Wickham, Roebourne, Karratha and Dampier due to Cyclone Tropical Cyclone Veronica. You need to remain inside and shelter in the strongest, safest part of your house or evacuation centre immediately. Please DO NOT put emergency service workers’ lives at risk by venturing outside before the All Clear has been given. Keep your emergency kit with you. Stay away from doors and windows, and keep them closed. Stay indoors until the ALL CLEAR is given by authorities. The cyclone is a category one system currently located just off the central Pilbara coast, northeast of Karratha. Tropical Cyclone Veronica is likely to maintain tropical cyclone intensity for the remainder of Monday evening before weakening to below cyclone strength during Tuesday morning. The cyclone is expected to continue to move towards the west southwest just off the central Pilbara coast. - - - - - - - - - - Cyclone ALL CLEAR advice for Whim Creek and Port Hedland (not including Whim Creek or Mardie) and the Inland Pilbara, Barrow Island, Pannawonica and surrounding areas in the Pilbara An ALL CLEAR advice is current for people between the communities of Whim Creek and Port Hedland (not including Whim Creek or Mardie) and people in or near communities of the Inland Pilbara, Barrow Island, Pannawonica and surrounding areas following the following Cyclone Veronica. The threat has passed but take care to avoid the dangers caused by damage & flooding. You need to be aware of hazards & remain cautious. ROAD CLOSURES AND CONDITIONS: Some roads may become impassable and some communities may become isolated. Travellers need to be aware that road conditions may be adversely affected and travel plans may need to be reconsidered. Reopening of roads will be subject to cyclone damage and flooding assessments.
