13.01.2022 It’s not just the east that we are keeping an eye on, but the west is going to get very interesting as well. A low pressure system is developing in the Timor Se...a, close to Timor itself, and is expected to linger in the region over the weekend before shifting in a general SW motion through the early part of next week. The big interest comes later next week as we need to watch for any signs of a curve more towards the south, which would bring the Pilbara and Gascoyne potentially into play. At this stage it’s simply a wait and see game, as much of the early model guidance we have seen this cyclone season for the WA region has not been as accurate as we would like. Below is the EC ensemble storm track forecast guidance, courtesy of Meteologix. It is showing that significant intensification into a powerful storm is possible through next week, with some members developing the system into categories 3,4,5 on the American Scale. There is some variation compared to the EC model, especially in the next 3 days alone. The GFS model shows the system drifting eaat and then south over the weekend, before its turn towards the SW, potentially bringing it a bit closer to the northern Kimberley coastline in the short term, something to keep an eye on as well. Finally, note the faint green lines to the north of the main track guidance? This is actually a weaker low pressure system (already formed further to the west in the Indian Ocean) potentially interacting with the stronger southern system and being flung towards the east in a Fujiwhara Effect. We refer to this often as binary interaction, and would be quite cool to see if it comes off. Some late season shenanigans to keep us on our toes, stay turned for me. https://meteologix.com//e/1221-e-135-s/2021040112-240.html
13.01.2022 Signs a growing of a major cyclone off the coast of WA a monsoonal burst north west of Australia is set to develop a tropical low just south of Indonesia early... over the long Easter weekend period then intensify as it moves south to south west over the next week and possibly become a major cyclone! At this stage there is no threat to communities with a direct impact as the cyclone stays out to sea but more often than not April cyclones DO impact the WA coast line so we will be keeping a very close eye on this for any adjustments over the coming days - John

12.01.2022 Wet winter likely as speculation over La Nina and a negative IOD mounts. It is looking more and more likely that Australia could be in for a wet few months going into winter. "I think its a little better than rumours now, which feels like a good thing to say," said Andrew Watkins, head of long-range forecasting at the Bureau of Meteorology.... "There are really strong odds, probably the strongest weve seen since 2016." That is particularly welcome news as we head into the southern cropping season. A number of regions have already received more than 25 millimetres, considered the trigger for the autumn break required to begin cropping, usually expected around Anzac Day.
