16.01.2022 Today is the longest day of the year. It also marks the start of summer. Hang on, what about December 1? Australia is one of just a few countries that considers December 1 the beginning of summer (or winter in the northern hemisphere), says astronomer Fred Watson. "My understanding is that that comes from colonial times because it was the 1st of December when the troops got their summer uniforms and got out of their winter uniforms," Professor Watson says. Most of the rest o...f the world marks the start of summer (or winter) on the solstice. https://www.abc.net.au//summer-solstice-2020-suns/12956544 https://www.abc.net.au//summer-solstice-2020-suns/12956544

14.01.2022 Happy International Women’s Day. I love this message below by Stephanie Anja: Maybe she’s blowing you off. Maybe she’s a bad friend. Maybe she is keeping you in her back pocket for a rainy day. It’s entirely possible.... Or maybe she’s busy. Maybe her plate is completely full. Maybe she’s coping the best way she knows how. Maybe she’s stressed. Maybe she’s maxed out. Maybe stuff isn’t going her way, and she’s saving her energy. Maybe she really did miss your text. Maybe she is overwhelmed with kids, family, and bills. Maybe she’s trying her best, but her best isn’t much right now. Maybe anxiety is getting in the way and rearing its ugly head, as it so often does. Maybe it has nothing to do with you at all. Maybe it’s about her. There are a million reasons she might be falling short. Maybe it really is that things have run their course. It’s a sad part of life, but it is, nonetheless, a part of life. Only you can make that call. But, then again, maybe it’s something else. Don’t forget to give the benefit of the doubt. Don’t forget to cut her some slack. Don’t forget to forgive. Don’t forget sometimes friendship means loving each other through the tough seasons, and the rainy weather, and all the ups and downs. May we hold eachother in the good times and in the rough times even if that means giving space.... I see you sister To those I have been too busy for I love you - I’m sorry - To those who have been distant from me - I love you - I understand - I & I

14.01.2022 We are all feeling very lucky right now to be living in Perth, Western Australia where we have no community transmission of Covid-19 and still no active cases. Although still cautious, we are fortunate to have been able to gather with friends and family and to celebrate recent milestone birthdays - a 50th, 21st and 18th - all in the past month. It has been so nice to dance the night away laughing with lovely friends, pretending for a while that all is normal in the world right now.

12.01.2022 yogajournal A message from @theintrepidhearts "I've been thinking a lot about how our yoga spaces can create a culture of exclusion that is rooted in oppression. One of the ways this can show up is when a yoga teacher cues "the full expression of the pose." If you tell a room of yoga students that something is more challenging or offer them the opportunity "to advance" in a posture, a majority of them will try to do it. We've been raised in a system ...that teaches us that more is better and to push beyond our limits. It centers asana and ignores the depth and breadth of a yoga practice. "The full expression of the pose" implies that other variations are less than, and only the "full expression" is real yoga. It's rooted in perfectionism and ignores the fact that everyone's body is different and doesn't leave room for exploration, which I believe is at the heart of any asana practice. As yoga teachers, it is our job to ensure that anyone who steps foot into our class feels seen and valued precisely as they are. Instead of teaching in a binary that sees one form as more advanced than another, offer different options out of sequential order and encourage your students to be mindful of sensations in their body to find an option that feels empowering to them. Continue investing in your education, focusing on learning opportunities that teach about equity, accessibility, inclusivity, and honoring the roots of yoga We owe it to our students to do better." 05.01.2022 Absolutely essential way of being.

05.01.2022 Happy Imbolc, Southern Hemisphere Imbolc is a time for planting seeds and to recognize one’s duty to nurture inner seeds of growth as well as the physical seeds of the earth; to consider personal goals and dreams and to embrace inspiration. One can also consider approaching situations and people with open eyes and open heart and inspire every living moment to be happier and more energetic.... We celebrate the imminent arrival of Spring at Imbolc and thanks is given for the warmth that is returning to the earth. Imbolc is a celebration of all that is fresh, new and young, and is also a celebration of the Goddess as Virgin. It is a particularly feminine festival, sacred to women. It is common to bless and burn white and green candles at Imbolc. (Imbolc is associated and also known as the festivals of Candlemas (British), Imbolic (Irish), Brigantia (Scottish) and Lupercus (Italian/Latin). It falls on August 1st or 2nd in the Southern hemisphere and February 1st or 2nd in the Northern hemisphere.) @ Perth, Western Australia https://aussiewytch.wordpress.com//im/imbolc-in-australia/

04.01.2022 A perfect weekend

04.01.2022 Chanting to help children get to sleep. And research to support it. Om is a nice sound, and really vibrates you in a soothing way, but you could use one from another faith tradition if you prefer.
