25.01.2022 Day 5 of the art challenge from Julie Collins. Choose something to share from your art archives x 10. I nominate Kerry Bradford because I would like to see your archives . I'm now moving into my second year at art school and we started to spend more time in our chosen fields. We learnt tapestry and all my work centred on processing the grief I felt due to my step mum Sue Salthouse having a horse riding accident and breaking her spine.... I created this tapestry using horse hair to weave the backbone. The vertebrae in red is the one that was broken resulting in paraplegia. The rest is a snow gum which took the impact when she was thrown from the horse.

16.01.2022 Day 4 of the art challenge, post 10 pieces of art from your archives. I was nominated by Julie Collins and I would like t nominate Mirsch Allison but he's not s...o keen though perhaps this post will inspire him? There was quite a comic writing movement at art school. I remember the boys brought out Bump and Snore, and the women got together to make one too with Kirrily Hamond and Mandy Ord at the helm, though it's name escapes me. Mandy has continued on making comics she's very funny and has a great style. She says that she made herself draw comics for 2 hours every day for a year and released them as a book which was nominated for an award. I am going to dedicate some time to finding my comic mojo this year. Anyway, I did some comic illustrations for a Women With Disability Australia (wwda) publication and I must find one and share it in the comments. But for now here is one I found whilst looking through my visual art diaries.

15.01.2022 The M16 Drawing Prize. This year they're showing all the entries digitally! Even though The Climate Grief Hanky Project was not chosen to be a finalist, it's great to see it and all the other entries. https://www.m16artspace.com.au/drawing-prize-entries-2020

13.01.2022 Day 2 of the art challenge...from Julie Collins ..post an image of art from my archives for 10 days I nominate another artist to do the same. How about Debbie ...Paton I'd love to see into your archives! One of the most important things I learnt at art school was the practice of keeping a visual diary. I had kept a written one prior to this, but a visual one was new to me. Basically it's a sketch book that you keep all your ideas and notes in. I made 3 in my first year, many more over the 4 years. Not as many since then I'm sad to say. Nevertheless they are meant to be a resource for years to come and delving into my collection has been really interesting. Today I'll share one page with you, I hope you can read the text too. I'm impressed with the knees that I've drawn

09.01.2022 Day 1 of the art challenge...from Julie Collins..post an image of art from my archives for 10 days I nominate another artist to do the same. How about Eleanor ...Lavish What are your waiting for? Coincidentally I was sorting through a bunch of artwork on paper much of it from my first year at art school the other day. I began studying at the Canberra school of art in 1994. The course was a 4 year Bachelor of Visual Art. The first year was a foundation year which I appreciated very much. We did a day of painting (I got Mandy Martin as my teacher) a day of 3d ( David Jensz was my teacher) a day of general drawing ( with Jill Peck) life drawing (with Roy Churcher) And an Art Theory day with Ann Eggles with a lecture usually by a visiting artist. I was a mature age student at the age of 28 and threw myself in with great gusto appreciating the opportunity to immerse myself in doing what I loved. Drawing is a really important skill, one that is challenging and time consuming. I'm sad to say I don't practice drawing enough today and I miss the discipline, space and encouragement that existed for me back then.

02.01.2022 Day 3 of the art challenge...from Julie Collins ..post an image of art from my archives for 10 days I nominate another artist to do the same. How about Teah F...ort I'd love to see into your archives! One medium I had practically no experience with before art school was 3d/sculpture. I soon discovered what a diverse and interesting medium it is. When looking through my visual diaries I see that my early efforts were pretty poor. (I did get better, and my final years work is breathtaking ) Though there is one piece which really stood out ( pun intended) The Foundation students went to the coast for a few days. We were all in our groups which were meant to contain students from all media so that you would have connections across the school as time went on. I really enjoyed getting to know my group. Anyway we were all released on to the beach and encouraged to make art. My piece was one of those simple but extraordinary moments where things come together just like that, which served to teach me a valuable lesson, that you don't need to overwork things, you just need to be on the lookout for opportunities!
