25.01.2022 Not even COVID-19 can stop our Brigade Management Team from catching up! Here’s our captain Lachie organising with the team on a conference call to make sure our brigade still runs smoothly amongst the chaos and craziness of a global pandemic. Whilst we’ve had to adapt, we’re still here to serve our local community

23.01.2022 It’s been heartwarming to see how generous people have been in the wake of the recent bushfires But unfortunately there are a few getting around taking advantage of the public’s generosity. This link from the ACCC has a few tips on what to look out for to check if a fundraiser is genuine. The official Victorian Bushfire Appeal can also be found at www.vic.gov.au/bushfireappeal

23.01.2022 Absolutely disgraceful, even more so in the peak summer season. Hope Whittlesea can get their FCV back soon. Keep an eye out for it

20.01.2022 Thanks to the Katandra West Bowling Club Inc for hosting us for another fantastic Xmas party. Seems we are much better at putting out fires than we are at bowls!

20.01.2022 This shot of Union Road, Katandra West isnt using a flashy Insta filter, it’s smoke in the air #nofilter. Visibility is poor on the roads so please put your lights on we don’t want to go attending any vehicle accidents, especially when there’s also potential for it to trigger a grass fire

19.01.2022 FYI for those in our community who might work or run errands in Shepp, see below info

19.01.2022 Hope Ted can find his wallet soon. Keep an eye out if you’re in Numurkah

18.01.2022 There are currently major power outages across Greater Shepparton due to the storm. Please keep clear of any fallen power lines as these should always be treate...d as live and dangerous. 17.01.2022 Whilst we don’t have a formal TFB in place in the Northern Country, it’s still wise to be extra cautious over the next few days with the hot weather and so many resources in the east of the state. The last thing anyone wants is more fire activity

12.01.2022 If you're planning on using the long weekend to clean up and burn that pile of rubbish before fire restrictions come in, there are a few small steps that you can take prior to lighting up to help prevent us being called out unnecessarily. Before burning off, ensure: - You're following regulations or laws by CFA and your local council. - You notify your neighbours if your activity will generate fire and smoke.... - Check the weather forecast for the day of the activity and a few days afterwards. - Establish a gap in vegetation or fire break with no less than three metres cleared of all flammable material. - There are enough people to monitor, contain and extinguish the burn safely and effectively. - You notify the Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority (ESTA) Ways to notify ESTA of your planned burn; - Online (Preferred) - Register online on the Fire Permits Victoria website (https://firepermits.vic.gov.au/). You can do so if your burn-off commences more than two hours from now. - By Phone - If you wish to start your burn-off immediately, or do not wish to utilise the online form, you may register your burn-off by calling ESTA on 1800 668 511, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. National Relay Service Users can ring 1300 555 727 and ask for Information to be relayed to ESTA via 1800 668 511

12.01.2022 Your elderly loved one, neighbour or friend may need extra help on hot days. People over 65 are vulnerable to heat illness. Make sure you check on them before i...t gets hot ask if they have air conditioning or a fan to keep cool or if they need help running errands. You could save a life by reaching out. Find #SurviveTheHeat tips here: betterhealth.vic.gov.au/heat

10.01.2022 More people at home = more risk of house fires. This weekend is ideal timing to be checking your smoke alarm works, and perhaps fit in an essential shopping trip for batteries or a new machine if needed.

05.01.2022 A big thankyou to our neighbouring brigades that came and assisted with Friday’s fire at Koch Rd/Tungamah Boundary Rd. At one stage we had 20 tankers, 3 helicopters and numerous other command and support vehicles. The crews on the tankers did a great job pulling it up in tough conditions. Also a big thankyou to Azem for feeding over 60 hungry fire fighters. Unfortunately large amounts of crop and hay have been lost. This is a timely reminder to always be careful when working ...in and around dry grass.
