25.01.2022 Putting the call out to all shearers, shearing contractors, roustabouts, shearers cooks and anyone involved in the shearing industry. I am putting together a series of photo essays to highlight the shearing industry. Despite some aches and pains my husband who was once a proud shearer has great memories of his time in the industry. A recent article on the push to introduce robotic shearers has made me think that we need to highlight the people who play a major part in the wool industry. I want to use photography to show people beyond the rural sector how valuable these people and their services are. If you would like to be involved please get in touch or share this post to others. I didn't think I could make it through a photoshoot involving eye surgery but thanks to my trusty #Nikon viewfinder keeping me from dwelling too much on the thought of an eye needle and some very brave and impressive patients and skilled doctors I made it through upright and almost ready... to face my own eye surgery...almost. After seeing the care and skill of these doctors I have been recommending them to everyone! It was fascinating being able to see what really goes on during these procedures. 22.01.2022 Innovation is a good thing BUT when an entire industry of skilled workers could be wiped out it can have serious social repercussions. Emma Dauvin Lauren Parker I am offering my photography skills to any shearing crew who want to showcase how they are a vital part of the wool industry. No industry is perfect but it would be a great loss to our rural fabric if we said good bye to shearers in place of robots. Feel free to share.
