I’ve been in this industry since I was 14 and 9 months (when it was legal to start working) and worked my way up the ranks from waitress, to function co-ordinator, MC and venue manager. I was a primary teacher at the Patch Primary for 10 years and had my fair share of CRT and Visiting Teacher Days at Somers School Camp. Two kids, a Rottweiler dog and a husband who... loves to play golf. I Barack for the Bombers and love spending summer down at Sorrento at our family beach house. 11.01.2022 Shannon + Mitch... When I scroll through the photos of their day I can recall our first ever chat over the phone. Shannon mentioned that they just want a really quick ceremony with minimal guests as Mitch hates being the centre of attention and he is just too nervous to have any more than a handful of people watching. "If we could just do it without anyone there, then we would", - Shannon said. As time went on, the guest list spiralled out of control (as it... can) and the ceremony was to be on the lawn next to the pier in Portsea. The weather gods weren't on our side this day and as the storm rolled in across the bay, umbrellas were turning inside out, I made the MAYDAY call to my friends at @portseaweddings to see if they would allow us to come over and keep dry. Another quick call to Shannon who was on her way down the road and we had 80 guests upstairs on the deck ready for her arrival. It was a massive ask to get the team to set the area with literally 15 minutes notice. The good old saying was true to its word - 'It pays to know someone!' I used to work at the Pub back in the day and being one of their preferred suppliers I was lucky to be able to pull some strings for my couple in need at the 11th hour and keep everyone dry! Being the anxious couple that they were, we quickly sprung into action without them worrying about a thing. AND through the ceremony I made sure that I was off to the side of them, just far enough to be out of the shot, but close enough for them to know I was there. I call it similar to a tennis match. The guests look at the couple, they look at me, they look back at the couple and the couple can look a little sideways too, easing the nerves out the front. FUNNY FACT.. when I met with both of them just prior to walking down the aisle they simultaneously said "Can we just hurry up and get this F@cK!n thing over and done with"... seriously BOTH of them. They were in that much of a hurry to get down the aisle and smooch that I found Amy trying to escape from her room 20 minutes too early AND mid way through the ceremony I found myself skipping paragraphs and deleting parts as I read, just to speed up the process...... 04.01.2022 Melbourne.... WE’VE GOT THIS! It would be fair and probably an understatement to say that ‘RONA’ has completely stuffed everyone’s wedding plans for the year. It has rattled us all! We have cried, we have laughed, probably sworn a little (maybe a lot) but at the end of it all we have worked through it TOGETHER! And we will get through this time again. ... You know we can look at this in a different way, yes my elopement couples will have to move dates BUT we will hopefully come out of this 6 weeks with some hope for those little weddings in Nov | Dec this year. We will learn to ‘Pivot’ (lucky I’m a good dancer ) and maybe your ideals on what you wedding was to look like before will be a different one BUT I guarantee you will love it all the same! What does all this mean for those just stalking me and starting out on the wedding planning train... well, 2021 is getting pretty full so get in touch sooner rather than later (remember you have 6 weeks locked up to plan it all ) AND finally - THANK YOU to all my gorgeous couples who have copped this crap on the chin and kept rolling with it! 04.01.2022 I often get asked to stay on as the MC at my couples reception. It would be fair to say that I LOVE a rustic DIY wedding and this is probably the kind of weddings that a role like this is needed. As your MC I am also a bit of a function co-oridnator, delving into those skills from a past life job where I managed some of the top wedding venues in the Victoria. It was engrained in me to always keep moving with a purpose and be one step a head with what will happen next. I don...'t just pop up to say a few words on the microphone. We have had a planning meeting in the lead up where no rock is left unturned. I am the one giving the suppliers a run down on how the night will go, the person running around in the background making sure the night runs smoothly. Do you have food to eat, drinks to enjoy, are the band and caterer all working cohesively together? I will even cut the cake! And at the end of the night, I am making sure that the bouquet has been tossed, the car is booked and packaged ready for you to run through the sparkler exit and off to your accomodation (to more than likely fall in a heap from all the excitement of the day). I do really love getting to know couples and staying on to see it through to the sparkler exit! But to be honest I love it even more when the suppliers are all like one big happy family and the night doesn't feel like work at all. 03.01.2022 Hello... To all my new followers and those yet to walk down the aisle, what a treat it will be when we can say those words - "Yes, you can seal it with a KISS!" I LOVE my job. I have been surrounded by weddings since I was 15. That is a heck of a lot of you may now KISS moments. Back in the day I was the function manager holding your train when you were about to walk down the aisle. I held the umbrellas if it was raining when you climbed... out of the car trying not to share your undies with the world. I was the one with a microphone in hand ready to introduce you into the reception and micro managing your function so it went off without a hitch (to be honest not much has changed really). NOW... these past 7 years I have been on the other side, excitedly waiting your arrival with script in hand, getting the music and guests ready for when the car rolls in the drive. I’m sure you have missed the shenanigans on the socials with the one and only Glen with one N @directorsedge Glen and I first met when he stepped in literally last minute to film my wedding! And to say the rest is history would be an understatement so I’ll try fill you in! Glen is one of those people that drops everything for the people that mean the most (or it could be JUST ME!) ... We often find ourselves at @toastweddings and @valleyloves functions sharing the driving up and down eatslink with the tunes blaring! (I choose to drive most of the time as he is a little tap happy on the horn) Often he has found himself singing to children’s songs like baby shark with my daughter Charlie on road trips to the peninsula! Or drive by @rebaldonuts runs if we happen to be anywhere within 50km of Mornington He is that guy who captures the gold on your wedding day without the awkwardness... you may even find him tearing up the dance floor with your guests! I just wanted to shout out some PDA as I’ve missed spending time time with my right hand man. We clearly have far too much FUN when we are in each other’s company and not a day goes by where there isn’t some sort of communication!
