23.01.2022 Macho Nacho Second ride and he was really cool! First ride in a bit and he was so much happier with a bit this time thanks to Equine Performance Dentistry It also makes it easier to decide on what to tackle next with him! Some work needs to be done musculoskeletally still but for the mean time he is enjoying Equissage
23.01.2022 A beautiful morning this morning! Macho update He’s let down his guard so so much since arriving which is amazing! This has led to him being more lookup and a bit more anxious at times but to me this is such a positive! Very quickly I could see him shut down and block out things when he was feeling overwhelmed. I’ve been careful to ensure I pick up on this when handling him and although this means some days it takes a long time to do small things, it also means he has be...come very present and is processing what is happening as opposed to shutting off and becoming vacant. He is becoming a lot more confident with things and is beginning to not resort to shutting off. He tried really hard whilst having his hooves trimmed which caused him anxiety but he was responding very positively to us being gentle and slow. He is booked in for the dentist which is super exciting as this will mean he can start more in-hand work and some short rides! Leica update Leica is going really well over all. I’ve taken the past week to focus on his walking under saddle, reinforcing that we don’t have to break into trot again after coming back from trot and balancing, albeit tricky, is a better option. He has actually made some great progress which is very reassuring for me should be back to jumping pretty soon!
21.01.2022 Expectations are resentments waiting to happen - Brene Brown This resonates with me on so many levels but it is something we can all take on board as equestrians! When we set expectations of ourselves and of our horses we often are placing so much unnecessary pressure on ourselves and it leads to frustration and shame and so much negativity within ourselves. Especially when dealing with green horses or when training in general we need to be ready to be on their level at a...ll times and ready to just walk an entire ride if that’s what they need. There are so many times where I’ve expected too much of myself and of my horses and it’s those times that I’ve ended up struggling the most and making the least progress. Mindset is such an essential part of all sports and equestrian sports often neglect this aspect. Creating a resilient mindset and striving to work away from toxicity is difficult at times yet so rewarding We invest so much in our horses physically and emotionally, remember to invest in yourself and your mental wellbeing as well - If you’re looking for someone that explores mental health that is also an amazing horse person definitely check out Olivia Towers Dressage because she is amazing and so real See more
20.01.2022 This bought me both intense joy and intense pain but I’m so happy that I got to do it I still can’t weight bare on my right leg although I can sort of stand now. I think I will be able to limp around next week but it will still be a few more weeks until I can ride especially because of the strain it would place on my ankle! Macho is looking so good and his posture is improving so much with his body work and good trimming. It’ll be so good to take him out on trail rides and to small outings
12.01.2022 The videos from today! Super excited to move forward from here. I wasn’t really asking much apart from to keep moving forward and it has given me quite a clear picture of what needs to be done on the ground and things I’ll be doing even just at walk under saddle over the next few weeks. Such a sweet honest boy
12.01.2022 Whilst I’m not so active on here at the moment, I’m sure I will be soon! Macho has begun to receive body work and will be able to slowly do more exercises with me before being ridden again! Leica is booked into a lot of different clinics and competitions so fingers crossed restrictions don’t come back into place Russell is ready to go to pony club this weekend after a small amount of time off! Looking forward to the month ahead and to see some familiar faces out and about
09.01.2022 Russell did his first jump courses today! And his first pony club outing! He did ground poles and smaller cross rails before this. So proud of him; he had quite a few breakdowns but he did super well over all! First time in such a large group of horses so he definitely struggled with not doing his own thing and having to follow along with the rest but removing him from that helped him adjust a little more. He did a lot better than usual with some things such as me picking ...out his hooves (often will get very worked up over that when we aren’t at home). Super good day See more
08.01.2022 Macho Nacho enjoyed a belly scratch and stretch this morning hopefully that means he’s in a good mood for some riding today
03.01.2022 Over the past week I’ve been working on Machos anxiety during handling! His main stress point was being caught and whilst he wanted to be with you he would begin to fall apart if you made a motion to put the lead around his neck or the halter on his head. He now only takes a few minutes to allow me to come to his shoulder and catch him. In the beginning this was closer to 15mins. In all this he has built a lot more trust and with a total of 20 minutes work today he now lin...es up to the mounting block by himself and is relaxed whilst I get on and off. I’ve only gotten on him once before this which was when I rode him and even though he wasn’t too stressed by that, he was just a whole other level of relaxed and content today! It’s the little things See more
01.01.2022 Lots of fun with Russell yesterday! Although not keen on it at first; he ended up being very confident with the water and was happy to jump into and out of it Lots of other photos but these are my favourites
