24.01.2022 Our weight, our size. Can it define our health? When we truly consider the definition of health, it is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-bein...g and not merely the absence of disease or frailty. So when you consider this, aren’t we are all in a place of continually aiming to maintain or progress to a state of health? There is no possibility that a number or percentage could ever truly define it. Consider a physique competition where they walk on stage with extreme leanness and definition, where in reality they are at one of the lowest points in performance and health - a state extreme fatigue, restriction, deficiency and dehydration. An athlete entering a key event may look the epitome of health with leanness and muscle tone, but in reality may be feeling anxious, pressured or alone. That tired new mum that diet culture says has ‘bounced back’, may actually be living in a state of sleep deprivation, low mood, lost connection and a daily cocktail of caffeine and chocolate hits. When you hear ‘health at every size’, don’t confuse this with ‘healthy at every size’. There is such a significant difference. Defining health away from size is a permission for all bodies to aim for their best physical, mental and social wellbeing - and wouldn’t that be an incredible message to get on board with rather than the horrific shaming that is currently in circulation from this @cosmopolitanuk feature. Imagine being in a world where you never get to see yourself in health or fitness - because that is what it is like for many of us. Where our body shape is made to feel unworthy or out of place for seeking health in movement and mind. So no, this feature isn’t glorifying obesity, it is instead allowing the true definition of health to be more diversely portrayed. So as you scroll through socials, just remember that health cannot be assessed by a photograph. It is so much more than that.

19.01.2022 Swipe across to see a few sources of protein The type and frequency of exercise you do, your age and if you are aiming to increase your muscle mass are all important considerations in determining your total daily protein requirement. Another important consideration is having a reasonably even spread of protein across the day. ... Protein is important to support muscle mass, immune function, hormone production and satiety (feeling full). Food first is always the best approach as you will not only add protein to your day but also micronutrients, fibre and other energy sources - carbs and fats. This adds to the health benefit food can provide. Then there is also taste, convenience and portability / food safety. So before you over think the exact grams of protein you are consuming first ensure you are eating regularly across the day and that you have protein at least 3-4 times daily. Once you have this nailed then dial in on the finer details of grams and pre and post training timing. #nutrients #nutrienttiming #protein

17.01.2022 Pressure Injury Prevention Day 2020 At Ashford Hospital today the wound care nurses and Dietitians teamed up to provide a little refresher on preventing and managing pressure wounds! PIPPA = pressure injury prevention personal assistant, had 10 nasty wounds over her body for nurses to identify and stage! A little parcel with nutrition information, pressure risk score (Braden score) and malnutrition score plus a @trueprotein bar and badge were given to all who completed t...he questionnaire around Pippa’s wounds. Pressure wounds increase Protein, Energy, Hydration and some micronutrient requirements, vitamin A, C and Zinc. Early detection and management can assist in wounds healing rather than becoming worse very quickly. #woundcare #woundcarenurse #clinicaldietitian

Who needs coaches with this bu...nch of budding netballers around?? #netball #midhillsnetbsllassociation #heathfieldnetballclub #dietitian #sportsdietitiansaustralia #coach

16.01.2022 Exercise Medicine should be a stand part of your oncological care. The Evidence to support this is strong. Keep moving through treatment and optimise your response to treatment and support your physical and mental health.

15.01.2022 I am an avid advocate for movement in daily life, in whatever form you enjoy. During cancer treatment Exercise really is Medicine. You can continue your general activity alongside a prescribed exercise medicine program but the two are different. Fuelling this well on top of already elevated requirements during cancer treatment is essential.

01.01.2022 I thought I might introduce myself for those who don’t know me. By trade and training I am an Accredited Practising Dietitian and Sports Dietitian. I work within a private hospital 2 days a week and in my own practice three days. ... Primarily I work in Endocrine, Oncology and Sports Nutrition. I love talking to sporting clubs around health and performance nutrition. I love being active - mainly Cross Fit, Netball and running although I have struggled to prioritise running in my week for far too long. I have a lovely husband and we have 3 busy children. I love club sports, for the community and friendship they provide whilst also providing a competitive outlet. I have 3 sisters, 1 older and 2 younger and am lucky to still have both parents going strong and who are a large part of our lives. I am more of a baker than a meal cook! I love podcasts. Haigh’s is an essential part of life! As much as I’d like to stay younger it is only with age / time that I have figured out what makes me tick and that I’m not so concerned about what everyone else is up to.
