25.01.2022 After eating snail bait on Friday evening, Max was rushed in to see me. Within 25 minutes of ingestion he was showing serious signs. Snail bait causes muscle tremors and seizures, rapidly leading to overheating and death. Max was immediately placed under a heavy anaesthetic and had his stomach pumped. However when he woke up at midnight he started having seizures. He was placed back under anaesthesia to stop the seizures and closely monitored. After two very rough nights, Max woke up Sunday morning seizure free.

23.01.2022 Have you got a new kitten? Spring is in the air, and with increasing daylight hours it is likely your little kitten will be reaching puberty very soon. Female kittens can have their first season as young as 5 months of age and if they happen to meet the tom of their dreams, more kittens are sure to arrive in only 63 days!! Little male kittens are sure to get the wanders searching for their true love, and are at risk of dog attacks and motor vehicle accidents. To avoid these situations, it is best to get your kitten de-sexed between 4 and 5 months of age. Call me on 0407 877 292 me to discuss further, or to make an appointment.

21.01.2022 Kate, we can't thank you enough for the wonderful job you did stitching up our little Miss Cass. We were certain that we would lose her. She is doing really well.

18.01.2022 DOUBLE TROUBLE!! No you are not seeing double, these Palomino twins were born Thursday evening. Both twins and mum are doing incredibly well. Twins are not a common occurrence for horses, sadly most twins are aborted prematurely, born dead or die in the first two weeks of life. It is recommended that all mares are ultrasound scanned early in pregnancy to both confirm that they are indeed pregnant and to rule out the possibility of twins.

18.01.2022 Thanks to a great vet, Kate Hazeldene, who has saved our boxer dog again from another snake bite. Second venomous bite this year. Her care, attention, knowledge and follow up is the best in Benalla. We would recommend her to all pet owners. Thanks Kate :)

15.01.2022 HENDRA VIRUS VACCINE NOW AVAILABLE A vaccine for the deadly Hendra virus was released in November 2012. Since 1994 this virus has killed over 80 horses together with the devastating consequences of four human deaths associated with these cases. Hendra virus is transmitted from bats to horses, and bats carrying Hendra virus have been identified in Queensland, New South Wales, VICTORIA, Western Australia, Northern Territory and most recently South Australia. There is also the ...risk of horse to horse transmission, and with horses travelling interstate being so common, there is a risk of an infected horse travelling into an area and shedding virus before it shows any symptoms of sickness. Vaccination involves two injections, 3-6 weeks apart, and micro-chipping (if they are not already). The Hev Vaccine can only be administered by accredited veterinarians. To vaccinate your horse, or if you have any questions about the Hendra Virus, please call Dr. Kate Hazeldene on 0407 877 292. See more

10.01.2022 SNAKES are already out and about this season. This little dog was bitten by a red bellied black snake on Sunday evening. With prompt recognition by the owner and veterinary treatment, this little dog will be lucky enough to make it home. Signs of snake bite include trembling, vomiting, collapse, salivation, dilated pupils and can rapidly lead to death. If you suspect your dog may have been bitten by a snake, please contact your vet urgently.

09.01.2022 Currently seeking homes for some adorable 8-10 week old kittens. Kittens are quiet, have been handled by children and are toilet trained. Black, tabby, tabby and white, males and females. Please call me on 0407 877 292 to discuss

07.01.2022 New canine parvovirus in Australia. But don’t panic! Researchers in Adelaide have recently reported the detection of a new type of canine parvovirus. Although this virus is new to Australia, it has been present in many overseas countries since 2000, and is very closely related to parvoviruses that have been present in Australia for the past 40 years. Experience from other countries that have this particular virus, as well as specific scientific studies, have shown that the cu...rrent vaccines we use are effective in providing protection against this new type. So what do you need to do? If your dog is up-to-date with its vaccinations nothing! Take your dog for a walk and enjoy Autumn :) However if your dog is unvaccinated, now is the time to schedule an appointment, as canine parvovirus, the old types and the new, can cause serious, and in many cases, fatal disease.

03.01.2022 Thank you to Kate and her wonderful team once again for their expert care with our mini galloway Rupert. His eye looks great.
