05.01.2022 Core, Six Pack, Abs Below reads about why having a strong core is so important, also followed by how to engage your core and a few exercises to maintain a strong core!! The importance of having a strong core... Having a strong core will improve posture, stability, balance, it assists the lower back, pelvis, hips to keep strong to minimise injuries and improve daily activity and performance. Engaging your core also allows your torso to transfer power from the lower to the upper body and back again during exercise. For example, engaging your core adds power to a cross punch in boxing as the move starts at the feet and moves through the pelvis to the upper body. How do I engage my core? The simplest way to engage your core is to brace yourself as if you're expecting a strong punch to the torso, and then breathe into your stomach. Your core engages naturally right before you laugh or cough, so if you initiate one of these actions, you'll get an idea of how it should feel when your core is engaged. Another way is to suck your belly button into your spine and feel as though you’re tensing it. 6 Exercises to maintain a strong core Repeat these exercises x3 a week for maximal results.
