25.01.2022 Our family road trip has begun! First stop was Gundagai to visit the dog on the tucker box then onto Albury for one night. We stayed at the Albury Manor House in a family room- great service, food and beds! Today we are heading to Melbourne to get on the Spirit of Tasmania for the night crossing

15.01.2022 On Friday we headed to the 19th century former penal settlement of Port Arthur which is a 90 minute drive from Hobart. This world heritage site is the best conserved convict site in Australia. The children loved exploring the ruins and doing the 25 minute harbour cruise. You can navigate most of the site with a pram, but Nash preferred to run around with Iris. On our way we stopped off at Blue Lagoon oyster so Louie could enjoy a dozen oysters in the sun. After Port Arthur we drove the 15 minutes further south to check out the Remarkable Cave. Lots of steps lead down to the viewing platform so Nash had to be carried. Worth it for the view though! More of Hobart and Bicheno to come tomorrow.

12.01.2022 Yesterday was Devonport to Cradle Mountain. It took about an hour to disembark in Devonport with everyone’s temperatures being checked and Tassie entry permits checked. Our first stop was Sheffield to check out the murals, we also checked out some of the shops and got some bargains. Cradle Mountain was next and we parked at the visitor centre to get the shuttle down to Dove Lake. This 6-7km walk normally takes about two hours but we did it with the children so it took three h...ours. Our four year old lasted most of it but got carried out by Daddy in the end, Nash was carried and had a great time pointing at everything. They advise to go clockwise, the end of the hike is a lot more intense than the start. I wouldn’t recommend doing it with small children unless you’re prepared to carry them like we did. We stayed at Cradle Mountain Wilderness Village in a family cabin and had dinner at Hellyers restaurant where the food was amazing, but pricey. The cabins do have a kitchen so you could easily cook in to save money. At 7 we headed to Devils at Cradle to do their sunset experience. You get to pat one of the baby Tasmanian Devils and have a guided tour of the sanctuary focusing on the devils and quolls. It ended with beverages and dessert as the sun sets while the Devils get their dinner. See more

11.01.2022 Yesterday we cruised the majestic Gordon River with World Heritage Cruises who are family owned and operated since 1896. First stop was Hells Gates and because we were lucky enough to have beautiful weather (and the roaring forties were being nice) we actually left the harbour and went all the way up to Cape Sorell and Whale Rock where a lot of boats in the past have been lost. We then visited Liberty Point where the local aquaculture pens stock Atlantic salmon and trout, and... spotted some cheeky seals trying to get an easy meal. Next stop was Sarah Island and the convict ruins, this place had the reputation for being one of the harshest convict settlements. Some dolphins followed us for part of this. Last stop was cruising up the World Heritage Gordon River to Heritage landing for a walk through the amazing ancient rainforests. Iris and Nash also got to visit the captain and co pilot some of the river (well they thought so haha) After investing in a beautiful Huon Pine serving platter from the local saw mill we drove from Strahan to Hobart via Queenstown. The scenery was breathtaking! We are now set up in Hobart at Somerset on the Pier in a premier family apartment which is the perfect location to explore Hobart and surrounds over the next couple of days. See more

09.01.2022 After hiking in t-shirts the day before, our morning hike yesterday was done in jumpers and puffer jackets, being prepared for all weather on Cradle Mountain is a must! This time we tackled the pram friendly Enchanted walk which is a 1.6km round hike that starts outside Peppers Cradle Lodge, and ends up back at the hotel. Iris was so excited we spotted two furry friends (and was also excited the walk wasn’t as intense as the day before haha). We then drove the two hours to St...rahan passing through the mining towns of Rosebery and Zeehan. We stayed at the Big 4 holiday retreat park in a two bedroom family cabin that can sleep up to 6 with a double bed in one room, two single beds in the other room and a fold out couch in the lounge room. It’s a comfortable 1.4km walk from the park to get right into the centre of town, along the beautiful waterfront and passing a great little park for the kids. We got back and realised we got a puncture on the way between Cradle Mountain and Strahan thankfully the guys at BP Strahan patched it up for us, but we did miss our 5.30 viewing of the Ship that never was, a local play that’s performed daily on the waterfront and we were really looking forward to. We had dinner at 42 degrees restaurant that’s inside Strahan Village. Louie was in heaven having a seafood buffet for $60 per adult, the kids ate and drank for free. If you’re not a seafood lover () they have a wide selection of other foods to cover most dietary requirements. Today we are off to explore the Gordon river. See more

07.01.2022 Yesterday we drove the 3 1/2 hours from Albury to Melbourne to board the Spirit of Tasmania. We stopped at Glenrowan to visit where Ned Kelly had his last stand, all of the locals were so lovely and friendly there. Boarding for the Spirit of Tasmania started from 4:30pm for a 7pm departure which was an easy and straight forward process. We had a four berth porthole cabin and the kids slept really well. We had dinner onboard at the Tasmanian Market Kitchen which had great food, then tired the kids out at the playground on level 10, which conveniently had a bar right next to it today we are off to Cradle Mountain
