22.01.2022 Kate Mullin Scholarship The Kate Mullin Association is proud to sponsor Scholarships at 2 universities Edith Cowan University and Central Queensland University. The Scholarship is worth $5,000 pa for 4 years and is to assist Aboriginal people from regional or remote communities in WA to study for a Bachelor of Education and return to teach in schools in remote or rural communities where there is a high percentage of Aboriginal students. Existing Education Assistants / Ab...original Education Workers are strongly encouraged to apply. The Scholarship is for studying either on campus in Perth or at one of CQU’s regional centres in WA (Broome, Karratha, Geraldton or Busselton), or studying online from home. 19.01.2022 On 18th January, the Association held a fund-raising event for the Kate Mullin Scholarships. The scholarships are designed to assist Aboriginal people from regional and remote communities (eg Aboriginal Teacher Assistants) become teachers and return to their communities. The event was very successful, with an excellent speech from the Association’s Patron the Hon Ken Wyatt AM MP. Other speeches were given by Ken Mullin, Ron Gorman and Margery & John Goodall. A total of $8,400 was pledged on the night.

11.01.2022 Malcolm Maloney from White Peak near Geraldton is the inaugural winner of the Kate Mullin Scholarship. The Scholarship is designed to help Aboriginal students train to be Primary School Teachers and teach in Aboriginal schools. Malcolm is now in his 3rd year of a primary school teaching degree through the Geraldton campus of Central Queensland University, and is an outstanding candidate. He has been working in Geraldton district schools since 2012, now at Champion Bay Senior High School as an Aboriginal & Islander Education Officer.

09.01.2022 Anne Mitchell B.Sc, Dip.Prod.Hort. Anne has worked in medical research, tertiary education and more recently as a farmer and horticultural consultant. As a family friend of Kate and Ken, Anne understood and shares Kate's passion for developing literacy in indigenous communities. The KMA is very pleased to warmly welcome Anne to the management committee.



06.01.2022 Dr.Graeme Gower is a Committee member of the Kate Mullin Association. Graeme is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Education at Edith Cowan University. Graeme is a descendant of the Yawuru people of Broome, Western Australia and has been involved in Indigenous education for 38 years, eight years as a primary school teacher and 30 years in higher education. He is actively involved in teaching and research, and is particularly interested in Indigenous cultural competency and re...search in Indigenous education, including effective school and community partnerships with Indigenous communities. He is a strong advocate of cultural competency training for researchers who engage in Indigenous research to strengthen ethical practices and effective communication among participants and Indigenous communities. His current research relates to increasing Aboriginal community/student and school engagement. See more

04.01.2022 The Kate Mullin Teacher Award 2018 The winner of the 2018 Kate Mullin Teacher Award is Phoebe Stoneman of Wiluna Remote Community School. Phoebe is a thoroughly deserved winner. She was nominated for the Kate Mullin award by her Principal, Adriano Truscott, a nomination which was endorsed by Lena Long who is a Wiluna Martu Elder, a School Board member and a Shire Council member. Phoebe has worked at Wiluna RCS since 2012 and is now the Learning Support Coordinator The presentation took place at the WATESOL AGM on 28th November.
