05.01.2022 Doing our bit for National Recycling Week It is amazing how quickly soft plastics add up and sadly how much packaging is still being used on the food and goods we buy. This big bag is an accumulation of about a month’s worth from our family of four. We keep a soft plastics recycle bin under the sink and take it to @colessupermarkets or @woolworths_au each month for recycling. By recycling your soft plastics you will be amazed how much you reduce your general rubbish th...at goes to landfill. #reducereuserecycle #saveourenvironment #softplastics #saynotoplastic #nationalrecylingweek #doingourbit #lesswaste

27.12.2021 Day 30 - Farewelling Printed Photos! Photographs are sentimental and are very hard to let go of. They take you on a journey through time and invoke all kinds of emotions. For this reason I have left this until the last day of the declutter challenge. If you have boxes or albums of photographs probably the quickest way of culling them is to start by throwing out any blurry, thumbs in pictures, heads cut off, duplicate, people or places you don’t know or can’t remember, and ...so on. As your collection has taken years to build you can’t expect to sort them in a few hours the process can take months to fully sort out. When you have a spare hour or two look at sorting and culling your collection, eventually setting up a few special albums which hold meaning to yourself and loved ones. For the remainder you can’t let go of look at storing them in photo storage boxes or albums in a cool dark place. Photo credit - @kaboompics Feel good tip Why not put together an album for a family member and present it to them for their birthday.

15.12.2021 Day 29 - Clear out the Kids Clothing! Like us, most children have way too many clothes but generally speaking wear only their favourite few. Clothes that are stained or damaged can be thrown out. Anything that is too small or your child refuses to wear (even though you love it and it cost a fortune!), look at donating or selling. Gift any baby clothes that have only been worn a few times to friends with little ones. Don’t forget to go through their shoes too! Photo credit -... @francescopaggiaro If you don’t have any children make a start on Day 30! Feel good tip donate baby/children’s clothes to women’s shelters or to reputable orphanages and charities overseas.

13.12.2021 Days 27 and 28 - Weekend Wardrobe Whip Around! Opening your wardrobe should be like arriving at a really good party, where everyone you see is someone you like - Amy Fine Collins. Yes please!... This weekend’s challenge is sorting through your tops (shirts, t-shirts, singlets), pants and trousers, dresses, skirts, jumpers and jackets. My top tip is - don’t overthink it and go with your first instinct! If you don’t get a good feeling from looking at an item then give it the flick! If it doesn’t fit, is the wrong colour, you can’t remember when you last wore it or it was a fad buy look at donating or selling it (especially if you still have the tags hanging on it!). Anything that is stained or damaged needs to be thrown out. You will need two days for this challenge as I have no doubt there will still be lots of maybes left in your wardrobe after day one! So go through the process again on day two. Persevere, as how fabulous will you feel when you are left with a wardrobe full of clothes that you truly love and will actually wear! When re-hanging your clothes sort them by type and colour. Photo credit - @pixabay, @dgtportraits and @evgphotos Tip streamline your coat hangers (loving @kmartaus flocked hangers). This will give you extra space in your wardrobe allowing your clothes to breathe which means less creases and less ironing. Win win! Feel good tip why not get a group of friends around and have a clothes swap. It will be one of your cheapest shopping days ‘out’ and guaranteed to be lots of fun! Feel good tip donate clothing (especially woollens) to homeless shelters and those doing it tough on the street. Remember if you wouldn’t wear it (i.e. the item is damaged) don’t donate it.

21.11.2021 Day 26 - Bye, Bye Books! If you love books as much as I do, then this will probably be one of the hardest challenges for you. Gather all of your books from around the house and put them into piles of - books you love and will read again or books that you haven’t read and probably never will. Books that were a bargain or those bought on holidays that now sit on your bookshelf gathering dust need to be moved on. Pregnancy or child rearing books that are now a thing of the pas...t or, cookbooks with recipes you have never made, look at donating these to your local library, friends, or your local street library. Don’t forget your magazine collection! If you have a subscription for magazines that never seem to make it out of their plastic wrapping now is a good time to cancel it! Schools, daycares and doctors surgeries love old magazines. Photo credit - @pixabay See more

19.11.2021 Day 25 - Sizing up your Sporting Goods! It doesn’t matter your age or ability, all of us have some sort of sporting paraphernalia around our homes, garages and gardens. Probably the hardest job of all is locating it and bringing it all together. Take stock of your stash and anything that is broken, missing a part, has a puncture or simply doesn’t work anymore, bin it! Do you or your children still play that sport, use the equipment or simply have 16 footballs and really onl...y need a few? Look at selling anything that is relatively new and in good condition. If you don’t have any sporting equipment around your home then I am sure there is some sporting memorabilia hiding in the back of the cupboard or in the pool room for you to go through! Photo credit - @pixabay Feel good tip place any equipment you no longer use out the front of your home and watch how quickly it disappears! There is nothing nicer than seeing your old bike being ridden by a new neighbour or balls being thrown through your old basketball hoop. Daycare centres and playgroups also love anything you no longer use how great it is that hundreds of kids can enjoy your pre-loved equipment!

01.11.2021 Give your old toys a second life! Thanks to one of my gorgeous clients for passing on this link - https://www.terracycle.com/en-AU/brigades/toys-for-joy

28.10.2021 KPD’s Top Tip - One of my pet hates is stickers that don’t come off fully or leave a sticky residue on your items. But I have found a new best friend in Planet Ark’s Orange Power Sticky Spot and Goo Dissolver! It makes removing stickers or sticky goo a breeze! While you are decluttering your kids toys, etc why not have a bottle handy. It’s great if you are wanting to clean up toys ready for sale too and the orange smell is fresh and yummy! I always carry a bottle in my tool kit!

13.10.2021 Day 24 - Blitz the Kids Toys, Books, Puzzles and Board Games! If your child is prone to wanting to keep everything try doing this one when the kids are at school or busy doing something else. Otherwise get the kids involved with the promise of some dollars for anything you sell on selling websites, Gumtree or Facebook. Anything that is broken, missing pieces or beyond repair needs to be thrown out. Toys, books and games that the kids have outgrown can be donated, sold or pas...sed on to friends. Remember the less is more rule. Too many toys and clutter can be very distracting for children. As a result they don’t know what to play with and will often tell you they are bored and have nothing to do. If you have space in their wardrobe try storing some items in there and look at rotating toys, books and games. They will think their Christmases have come at once when you bring out a box of ‘new’ goodies! Photo credit - Engin Akyurt If you don’t have any children, today is your decluttering day off or start sorting one of your junk drawers! Feel good tip donate outgrown toys to your local daycare just think, how many hundreds of children will love playing with your kid’s toys just as much as they did!
