25.01.2022 Great video showing just how complex speech really is. This person is speaking German, however they count to 10 (which you may be familiar with) and you can hear the full range of vowels and consonants. Love watching that k sound - so many kiddos struggle with it and being so far back on the soft palate (hard for them to see) its so abstract for them.

25.01.2022 Did you know that 1.2 million Australians live with a communication disability. The ABS released statistics today.

24.01.2022 ICYMI: This week the Federal Health Minister released the The Australian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines for the Early Years (Birth to five years). The guidelines... encourage parents to severely restrict screen-time and to aim for three hours of physical activity a day. They provide parents with a strong framework to set up their childs day, spelling out precisely how much sleep, physical activity and sedentary time kids should have in a 24 hour period. #communication #slpeeps #slp2b #slt #slt2b #slp #slpbloggers #language #speech #voice #fluency #speechpathology #speechtherapy See more

24.01.2022 Emergent readers of all ages must be taught phonics via direct instruction. Without a systematic approach, learners are not provided with the knowledge required to read well.

22.01.2022 I think lazy is a bit harsh - but yes, parents need to spend time talking to their children. Some parents are very careful about their childs screen time, but then dont realise how much time they themselves spend on their devices. Go to the park, go for a walk, go to the beach and leave your devices (including your phone) at home.

20.01.2022 Spectacularly Splendid News for NSW DET Schools!! Funding for Decodable Readers for all NSW DET Schools with Kindergarten Enrolment ($50 per Kindergarten Student!) (and Speld NSW still has their 15% off sale on Decodable Readers)

17.01.2022 Teaching kids to memorise sight words rather than decode is like teaching them two-finger typing

17.01.2022 Decodable books encourage the habits of strong readers (accurate word decoding) not the habits of weak readers (guessing words from pictures, content or first letters). https://www.facebook.com/Spelfabet/posts/865121700341132

16.01.2022 In the study, the back and forth conversational turn taking between child and adult ranged from 90 to 400 turns in an hour. Its important to talk to your kids, exposing them to new words and sentence structures, but also very important to engage them in a back and forth conversation to help deepen their understanding and use of language.

15.01.2022 Merry Christmas! I cannot thank you all enough for your kindness, patience and well wishes during this trying time. I am so blessed to work with some amazing people. Xxxx

13.01.2022 Great TED talk for older teens and adults in regards to social skills and conversations.

10.01.2022 I love this. Too good not to share. Most parents know their kids strengths and weaknesses.

10.01.2022 Babies and children learn the meanings of words before they use them. Labelling objects and actions and modelling the use of words in short clear phrases is an easy way to stimulate your childs language development.
