Our thoughts are with all the Fire Fighters and crews already out fighting and protecting NSW.

20.01.2022 Benefits of Bouncing and Balancing! Bouncing stimulates nearly every sense, leading to an abundance of brain activity. As both visual and auditory functions are directly governed by the vestibular system, bouncing aids the development of vision, visual-motor skills, hearing and auditory-motor skills. Bouncing and jumping exercises nearly every muscle in the body, encouraging muscle strength, core strength and improving posture.... DID YOU KNOW? According to a NASA study, ten minutes of bouncing is a better workout than thirty minutes of running! At the same time as improving overall fitness, bouncing and trampolining also improves digestion, blood circulation, stimulates internal organs, promotes lymphatic circulation and drainage and strengthens the immune system. The improved circulation of oxygen to your childrens brains, can help to make them feel more alert and refreshed and improve concentration. 20.01.2022 Sophie has created a magical start to December. See what our children have been getting up too!

19.01.2022 Construction Play Construction play can manifest itself into just about any form for imaginative little minds. Apart from all the fun it holds and the precious memories it goes on to build, construction play also plays a crucial role in the cognitive and behavioural development of children.... Construction play imbues kids with the importance of cooperating with other members in their team. For instance, a simple act like passing each other a shovel or a foam brick brings the kids together and helps them feel like one community working towards the same goals. It also paves the way to build their social skills, a trait that would be valuable to them as adults. Here is some images of our children engaged in our construction setup on the deck!

18.01.2022 Be prepared and ensure yours and your child/rens details are up to date with Centrelink and Medicare.

18.01.2022 Its National Children's Week" this week... Children's Week celebrates the right of children to enjoy childhood. It is also a time for children to demonstrate their talents, skills and abilities. For more info visit:... https://www.childrensweek.org.au/ See more

17.01.2022 Please like and share to advocate for the childcare industry, who have supported families from the start of this crisis, we tried to not close our doors, to continue to provide safe, nurturing care through a stressful, and incredibly uncertain time. Kelly is one of our educators in Lake Macquarie and like the majority of us lost up to 95% of our wage overnight. To each and every educator out there - you are working long days, doing additional hygiene/cleaning tasks and havent been paid for almost 6 weeks! Stay Strong - We will survive this!

17.01.2022 Happy St Patricks Day to you all!

17.01.2022 The wonderful Sophie is working this week at Leaps & Bounds! She has set up some fabulous activities for the childrens interests... Heres a peek: Exploring different mediums of Art. The benefits of Art in early childhood are numerous including strengthening fine motor skills, concentration, hand eye co-ordination, developing childrens emerging autonomy and allowing children to construct and process their own ideas/thoughts and feelings.

16.01.2022 Thank You Amanda Rishworth MP for voicing the problems associated with FREE Childcare!

16.01.2022 Nothing beats the winter sun on your back! These froglets have enjoyed a glorious morning play session on the deck. Learning Environments Learning Environments are one of the eight key practices contained in the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF); Physical Environment is one of the seven quality areas in the National Quality Standard.... A well organised learning environment has the potential to underpin good practice across all Quality Areas in the National Quality Standard and the five Learning Outcomes specified in the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). An active learning environment is one in which children are encouraged to explore and interact with the environment to make meaning and knowledge through their experiences, social interactions and negotiations with others EYLF p. 45.

16.01.2022 Benefits of Trike Riding Encouragement to Take Initiative By the age of 2, children have a natural enthusiasm for doing things on their own and take initiative for new responsibilities. At this stage, a tricycle is a perfect toy to encourage them in doing so. This stage lasts usually up to 6 years when most children master the use of a trike and progress towards using a bike. So, during this phase, a trike is an excellent tool to prepare and encourage them to take initi...atives. Coordination and Balance Growth and development of childrens bodies take place rapidly during the early years. They learn to coordinate their bodies by controlling their fine and gross motor movements in ways with increasing complexity. Steering a trike requires coordination of hands while moving forward requires coordination of their feet. They face a few difficulties in maneuvering a trike, but with time and efforts, they slowly learn proper movements.

16.01.2022 The benefits of letter manipulatives are incredible. Not only are letter manipulatives fun, but they are also a great teaching tool. Letter manipulatives are as important as having a visual alphabet around! These small pieces are setting the stage for reading, writing, visual discrimination, and more literacy foundations. Letter recognition is a key step in a child’s ability to learn to read and write. As children play with letter manipulatives, they are gaining knowledge about the letters they interact with. They can see the difference between ‘Y’ and ‘B,’ and they can also feel it.

15.01.2022 Happy Birthday to Us!!!! 5 years ago we opened our doors (and our hearts) for what has so far been an unbelievable ride! Caring for 30 children from 25 families over a 5 year period. Some stayed for their whole childcare life, whilst others combined care with preschool, some moved on to accomodation closer to home. We have had family’s travel more than 30 minutes to drop their children into our care, to then drive back in the opposite direction for work! This in its self is a... huge testament to the Leaps & Bounds Team! This week we are celebrating with our children! For them it might just be cake and a party! But for us - 5 years is such an accomplishment. Thank you to each and everyone of you who have and continue to support us! We wouldn’t exist without you!

15.01.2022 Have you seen our newest friends We are currently hosting the Living Eggs Hatching Program at Leaps & Bounds! The children have been so excited to come in each day and see if we have any new chicks... Over the weekend all 7 that have hatched have been moved into their brooder box. We still have 3 eggs left to hatch! ... Stay Tuned....

12.01.2022 Under the Sea This week we are extending on our interest in one of last weeks books, Chomp goes to School. For the month of August we are exploring all that is under the sea.... Animals, coral, salt water, pollution and how all of this affects us! ... This morning we have LOVED the play doh table. Exploring the animals and coral we might find amongst the ocean. This prompted questions such as Whats this animal? and Look! Chomp Chomp!. Stay tuned for what our research uncovers... 12.01.2022 DONT JUST UNENROL YOUR CHILDREN FROM THEIR EARLY EDUCATION AND CARE CENTRES PLEASE !!!! There is so much uncertainty in the world at the moment and so many people are losing their jobs, please dont add your child's educators to that list. I am NOT saying you should send them if you dont feel comfortable. What I am saying is DONT UNENROL THEM.... Talk to your centre first. There are a number of things in place from the government to help families and to stop centres from going bankrupt but these measures are only helpful if the children STAY ENROLLED. Firstly, if you or your partner has lost their job or had your wages cut, you can go on to your mygov page and apply for temporary financial hardship. This means that the government will pay your childcare fees in FULL for 13 weeks. The government has also committed to paying the CCS portion of the fees in the event that the centres do go in to lock down. What this means for centres is that we can keep paying our educators, our rent, etc etc etc. It means that at the end of all of this, there will be centres to send your children to. I implore you, please speak to your centre director and find out your options, BEFORE just pulling your children out. It will make the world of difference to our sector. Stay Safe! Note: This text is being shared across the industry, I did not write it personally - We are in this together!

11.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who nominated me for the 2020 Excellence in Family Day Care Awards. Its an honour and privilege to do a job that I love! Thank you to my families for entrusting me with your precious children!

11.01.2022 Leaps and Bounds Early Learning along with Little Footprints Early Learning would like to acknowledge the Awabakal people as the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which we operate on today. Paying respect to all Aboriginal Elders past, present and future. Today the Sophie and the children continued on our learning and celebration of NAIDOC week. During morning tea Sophie read Whats that there? By Ros Moriarty illustrated by Balarinji. They also listened to ...How the birds got their colours by Mary Albert and Pamela Lofts. Which is one of Sophie’s favourite dream time stories. The children enjoyed pointing out the different colours of the birds. We talked about the colours and the shapes of both the Aboriginal flag and Torres Straight Islander flag. Sophie then explained the meaning of the colours and shapes in an age appropriate way, Miss C and Master H were keen participants in our playdough experience. They were rolling, kneading and labeling the colours in the dough. The children also added the colours together and used gum leaves from the backyard to add to their play dough creations.

11.01.2022 This morning following on from the childrens insect/mini beasts interest we set up a sensory bug inspiration building table Using sticks, gum leaves, rolling pins and pictures of insects, the children engaged in the manipulation of the playdough and experimented with multiple resources to create their own respresentation of a mini beast. This activity captivated the children and their attention to detail was inspiring!

10.01.2022 Business as Usual (with some increased health & safety protocols) Our team are passionate in ensuring they are further equipped with training on dealing with infection control. The Leaps & Bounds family have completed modules in Infection Control - COVID -19 as it covers the fundamentals of infection prevention and control for COVID-19.... COVID-19 what is it? Signs and symptoms Keeping safe protecting yourself and others Myth busting We are hopeful this training will aid in ensuring our environments are clean and safe and to support families and the wider community in dealing with the risk of an outbreak.

09.01.2022 ANZAC Day 2020 Teaching children to recognise, observe and pay respect to our ANZACs who fought many years ago. This week we have been sharing stories about ANZAC day. Sophie shared the story ANZAC Ted by Belinda Landsberry which provides the children insight into Anzac Day in an age appropriate way.... They then sat together and Baked Anzac biscuits. After washing their hands the children helped Sophie add the ingredients into the bowl and they all took turns stirring the mixture together. The children have also been experimenting with different art mediums. The children to created their own version of a poppy using paint, glue, buttons and Pom poms. We spoke about poppies mentioning that they are the flower that helps us remember the brave ANZAC soldiers. Lest We Forget.

08.01.2022 Happy Mothers Day to all the Mums out there - particularly our Leaps & Bounds Mums... With families self isolating and cutbacks from the new childcare scheme, we were given the challenge of finding a craft activity that all out children could participate in - even from home (without their mums knowing).... To all our dads who traced hand prints and measured the lengths of their childrens arms for us - THANK YOU!!! We couldnt have spoilt our mums without your help! Our fel...t handprints connected by ribbon were all chosen by the children... giving their mums a hug that is ALWAYS available to them, and a memory of just how little their arms were in May 2020. The children also make paddlepop photo frames and gave their mums a picture of themselves and a box of chocolates! All parcels personally delivered to each house today and left on their doorsteps to ensure we maintained our social distancing! Happy Mothers Day 2020

The children enjoyed last week’s play dough experience so much we decide to extend on their interest to introduce Christmas. We sat and made our own Christmas trees/faces using Pom Poms, pipe cleaner, leaves, feathers and Christmas dough cutters. The children showed a great deal of concentration and creativity in this experience.

07.01.2022 In a time of uncertainty, remember our little people who sense something is going on but dont understand why their little world has changed!

07.01.2022 Children love to investigate and find out all they can about minibeasts so they are a great vehicle for learning in the early years. Minibeasts are small creatures, like worms, snails, insects and spiders. The scientific term for them is invertebrates a creature without a backbone. Because they dont have a backbone, minibeasts tend to have other structures which support and protect them. Snails have shells, while many insects and spiders have an exoskeleton, which is a hard casing on their outside. This month our children are extending on their interests in bugs after we participated in World Bee Day a couple of weeks ago!

07.01.2022 NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is a great opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and culture. Throughout the week we will be engaging in a range of activities and experiences that will allow us to explore the Aborignal and Torres Strait Islander culture and learn more about it. Will share some of our activities a little later in the week

02.01.2022 Leaps & Bounds Early Learning along with Little Footprints Early Learning would like to acknowledge the Awabakal people as the traditional owners and custodians of the land on which we operate from today. Paying respect to all Aboriginal elders, past, present and future. This week we are celebrating NADIOC week with this years theme Always was, Always will be. NADIOC week acronym stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Observance Committee. It is usually held in t...he first week of July with this years being moved to 8th- 15th November due to COVID 19. NADIOC week is an opportunity to celebrate/ respect and further extend on our learning of First Nations people. We endeavor to embed Indigenous culture throughout our program year round as a way of showing respect to First Nations peoples on whose land we stand on today. Sophie was privileged to receive a book from local Indigenous artist/ author and proud Wonnarua woman Lesley Salem. The symbolism Iconography and language of eastern NSW Aboriginal Art. This book has been written following the teachings of Lesley’s father a Wonnarua elder. Sophie used this book as a tool to teach the children the symbols for eastern NSW Aboriginal art. The children used the book to guide them as they participated in using sticks to make symbols in the sand. Mst C and Mst I particularly liked the symbol for a Dingo. Whilst Miss C and Mst H enjoyed looking at the flora and Insects. The dingo, Women, Men and Kangaroo tracks were very popular.

02.01.2022 With the weather heating up, it’s the perfect time to get outside and explore, and there’s nothing more fun than spending time splashing and frolicking in the water on a hot day! What is Water Play? As the name suggests, water play is play that involves water as well as using tools such as buckets, containers, and toys etc. that allow children to splash, scoop, pour, submerge and explore their senses.... Water play in Early Learning settings usually involves a water table or large tub that children can stand around while engaging in their play. This makes for an exciting and social experience for children as they splash, play and have fun together. Water Play provides hours of rich and valuable early childhood experiences to develop children’s creativity and imagination. Not only does water play engage children’s sense of fun and delight, but it also has a range of benefits for children’s physical and social development.
