25.01.2022 This just lifted my heart and made me laugh! And that's why I sing and support other women singing

24.01.2022 Giving Voice - singing and vocal play for women. Opening up new sessions both 'in person' in Hobart and online via Zoom commencing week beginning June 14th. Giving Voice offers a wonderful opportunity to gain vocal, expressive confidence, increase your sense of well-being and simply have fun. And now you can choose to do so in person with a small group of other women, or from the comfort of your own living room.... Contact me if you would like to more information or if you are ready to come and Give Voice! [email protected]

23.01.2022 Did you know that 25% of income generated from Giving Voice goes straight to projects creating safety for other women? Given that one of the aims of my Giving Voice program is to provide a safe and inclusive space for women to play and express freely with their voice, it seemed a natural step to actively support the Hobart Women's Shelter. Thanks to all of you who sing, sound, give voice - and in doing so contribute to creating a more safe and inclusive community for all wome...n and children. The Hobart Women's Shelter strives to provide safe emergency accommodation and support to women and children who are affected by family violence and homelessness. https://www.hobartws.org.au

23.01.2022 Collage hadn't called to me until a few years ago when, as part of my Initiatic Art Therapy training, I was formally introduced to it. The more I do, the more I see and experience it's rich layers. It's a great way to get to know ourselves a bit more........ And a wonderful way to play and create if you're confined to quarters at home...(Big love to all of you in Victoria) Start by grabbing a handful of magazines and simply choose the images you are drawn to. Then create an arrangement of them that's pleasing to your eye, in that moment, before glueing them in place. What do you notice about the images you've chosen? Is there a certain mood, colour, gesture showing itself? Anything you'd like to bring more of to your life? Have fun exploring, playing, creating.

23.01.2022 Sitting in glorious spring sunshine this morning, reflecting on the effects of sensorimotor art therapy..... From collage to mandalas, Hand painting to work at the Clay Field, Stitching and felting,... And don't forget giving voice!! All of it, in different ways at different times, brings clarity, regulation of my nervous system and totally helps me inhabit my body and express myself more wholeheartedly. Introducing others to this world, guiding them through various practices and processes so they too can live more wholeheartedly is what I love to do!!

23.01.2022 When one's inner world reflects ones outer world...... The drawing I made a couple of years ago, a spontaneous intuitive entry in an art journal. The photograph taken on the 3 Capes Track last week.... An indication, perhaps, of a deepening connection to this natural environment?

21.01.2022 Musings, mandala style.... Felt like a bit of a science experiment, but shifted some pointy energy.

21.01.2022 The endless possibilities of Mandala! A great way to settle yourself if you're feeling out of sorts, a bit irritable. Start in the centre, with whatever motif/shape you feel inspired to make. it can be as simple as a circle... From there, just grow your mandala outwards, however you like to using colour/shapes/repeating patterns.....until it feels complete. You might like to enclose it by drawing a circle around the outside. This can be great if you're feeling scattered, so just check in with yourself to feel what you need in the moment. You might like to make a mandala drawing every day for a week or two and notice what changes, in you and your mandalas. Enjoy

21.01.2022 This is a beautiful guide into making an expressive collage by Shelley Klammer. Shelley is an expressive arts therapist with oodles of experience and a whole swag of great inspiration. Enjoy

19.01.2022 A bit of light relief on a Sunday afternoon. How I love the simplicity of playing with tone, just using one colour to create many shades. How are you using watercolours at the moment?

19.01.2022 I watched this beautiful short film and felt it absolutely nourish my soul. Inspiring words, exquisite music and stunning images make it a very rich 8 minutes! And all the better to view it on the biggest screen possible!!

19.01.2022 A brief history of Giving Voice!! Have you ever been told you can't sing? Or maybe you shouldn't sing? Or even something like 'don't give up your day job'!... Any of these comments can be enough to shut us down and feel terribly self conscious about our voice... I think that's a tragedy! I believe we can all sing. I believe singing is part of our shared humanity. We don't have to be an opera singer to enjoy singing, and we certainly don't have to 'get it right' to be able to enjoy singing. Giving Voice offers a safe and accepting space where you and your voice are welcome, in whatever shape/timbre/tone. In a Giving Voice session I invite you to explore, experiment and play with your voice in the company of like minded others. It's different every time, but it's always uplifting, enlivening and fun. If you're curious or would like to try a session, contact me today to arrange your free trial session.

19.01.2022 Buds are swelling and flowers are appearing on our fruit trees. The pink blossom of flowering plums adorns our suburban streets. Spring is surely just around the corner, and that is definitely something to sing about!! A new season of Giving Voice is starting soon - the week beginning 17th August to be precise!... There are still a few spaces available in the online Zoom sessions. Thursdays 9-10am OR Saturdays 9.30-10.30am (for 6 weeks) Singing is such a great way to lift your spirits, so if you're feeling a little blue with the wintry days and being confined to quarters this could be the perfect tonic for you. Maybe you've always wanted to sing, but not feeling super confident with your voice, this opportunity to sing in the comfort of your own home could be just what you need to get started. Giving Voice is a space for women to explore, experiment and express through voice, and always includes plenty of laughter and connection. Let me know if you'd like to give it a go! PM me or give me a call this week to reserve your spot in Giving Voice.

18.01.2022 Feeling refreshed and counting my blessings after a week in the wilds of Tasmania. Time in nature has such a profound and positive effect on our wellbeing. Even just looking at pictures of nature can be uplifting. So if you are one of the many people confined to your house at the moment, these pics are especially for you. May they nourish your soul.... 18.01.2022 Playing around with a bit of weaving too. Simple and satisfying still. I've started with circles, but there are so many possibilities to explore.....shape, colour, texture, weaving technique....... And it can all happen in a journal!!

17.01.2022 How fortunate we are in Tasmania, to have such diverse landscapes in which to retreat and recharge....and the freedom to do so! Time in the bush, by the sea, in our wild places, is an integral part of my self care plan, supporting my creativity and ability to be still and present, a more whole human being when connected to the natural world.... So very grateful for every opportunity to be out there, ... and curious about how we nurture this connection when our situation may not allow us such liberty... See more

15.01.2022 Had a couple of beautiful workshops yesterday exploring creativity as a companion in grief and loss. Conversation, contemplation and creating an intuitive collage piece around grief and loss proved to be supportive and nourishing for us all. I hope to offer more of these sessions and will keep you posted.

14.01.2022 Enjoying some quiet space today and taking some time to mend and explore some new techniques! Much has been written about the experience of mending ourselves as we mend the holes or tears in garments. Of stitching and weaving ourselves back together after suffering losses....... As well as being a very satisfying project, these humble skills have much more to offer it seems.

13.01.2022 Interested in Giving Voice? Here's a few other voices sharing what they're loving about Giving Voice. 'Giving Voice is a weekly dose of medicine for the soul'... 'I love the simplicity and delight in singing for fun, without any pressure to perform or perfect my sound or the song' 'Kate brings a depth of empathy, compassion and understanding of our vulnerability to this work. She provides a space that enables each of us to find our own voice through song, and so much more' '...full of joy and connection. Giving Voice is a highlight of my week' Contact Kate to reserve your place in Giving Voice. [email protected]

13.01.2022 Work at the Clay Field Being present to the impulses that arise in our hands and allowing them to play out with, and into, the clay. The deep wisdom of our body, our being, is acknowledged and enabled in this way and healing can begin.

12.01.2022 Dripping with jewels..... Enjoyed the quiet pause of this mandala moment today.

11.01.2022 If you're ever needing a bit of inspiration, a pick me up for your soul, look no further than your fruit bowl! How glorious is the inside of this little hairy beast? We didn't quite give our kiwi enough water in the summer, but still amazing

10.01.2022 Mid winter and intuitively reaching for warmth and movement today... And the strong vibrancy of acrylics! Can you give yourself a few minutes today to play? ... Without a plan. Free of expectations Trusting and allowing your inner impulse to lead the way.. Just because it's the middle of winter!

10.01.2022 And sometimes there are treasures to be found along the way.... As I was looking through magazines, gathering images for a collage, I found this offering in a Womankind. A beautiful reminder of the many possibilities of life

10.01.2022 So much joy we found in river stones. Creating, building, skimming, fossicking..... Inspired by the likes of Andy Goldsworthy, and of course the stones themselves!

09.01.2022 Some exquisite and powerful voices to lift your Tuesday

08.01.2022 It's the simplest, most humble of things that can give such a sense of satisfaction and joy! A well loved, and very worn, pair of socks have a new lease of life after some quiet time spent stitching. Enlivening colours, a simple repetitive pattern and a decision to restore life rather than discard made this an incredibly calming, meaningful and satisfying creative project.... Darning - a most underrated therapy!

07.01.2022 Giving Voice on a Saturday morning is happening! Commencing Saturday 11th July Contact me today to reserve your place in these new Giving Voice sessions.

07.01.2022 Magamama, or Kimberley Ann Johnson, is a Somatic Practitioner who offers a real and practical set of tools for developing capacities we need to make the world a fairer, more just and humane place. I believe this work of becoming aware of what's going on in our bodies, our nervous systems, and growing our capacity to sit with uncomfortable feelings is absolutely as important as educating ourselves to what is going on in the wider world. To that end, this talk is well worth a listen

03.01.2022 Would you like to sing on a Saturday morning from the comfort of your own living room? A little nourishment and uplift for you, body and soul, to get your weekend flowing.... Let me know if you're interested in Giving Voice, Saturdays 9.30-10.30am via Zoom.

03.01.2022 The beginning of my Bento bag adventure.... Not sure why, but I'm feeling strongly drawn to my fabric scrap stash and this simple design of gift bags - Japanese style. So I'm following my heart and going with it. I'll let you know where it leads me!!

02.01.2022 Showing my tech skills.... I just managed to delete the previous photo as I attempted to add this one oops!! Always more to learn!!

01.01.2022 Continuing with collage as part of my preparation for upcoming group offerings..... And, of course, discoveries, insights and learning along the way for me too!! Creativity has been a trusted companion for all of my adult life, in so many different guises. ... Not always comfortable, but utterly reliable. I just have to remember to turn towards her and follow my heart.
