24.01.2022 Sometimes...timing just works. Thanks to a client this week being amazing at decluttering her laundry cupboards, I have 4 huge bags of old clean towels to donate to the RSPCA flood rescue efforts this weekend. They were originally going to go to H&M...or a friend’s cleaner, who is always looking for fabrics to recycle in her business. Now they have a very noble cause, helping the animals that have been effected by the floods. I find this so often...that in assisting people ...to declutter their homes, where they bravely let go of STUFF...that these items that were overwhelming in their lives and closets are actually just what their community wants/needs. To buy, to be donated, to find a new home where it will (once again) be used and enjoyed. It’s pretty awesome.

21.01.2022 Each piece tells a story...many layers of family are being honoured in this cabinet

13.01.2022 Happy Friday everyone . You might have noticed that I’m not posting many Before & Afters anymore. They suddenly felt too intimate to share. I felt self-conscious taking them and uncomfortable promoting them. They are great marketing for The Contented Home (as really, who doesn’t like having a look?!)...but I know that I personally would prefer not to have photos of my house on a bad day/week/year being shared on social media and therefore I don’t want to ask that of you,... my client. So you’re just going to have to take my word that this week...some magic happened. Several corners of people’s homes across the Northern Beaches got torn apart and then put back together in a way that allows everyone to find pleasure in them again. We each ended those sessions feel pretty chuffed with ourselves, I think, as it’s truly a group effort. Tomorrow morning is an early start...there’s a pantry and kitchen in Belrose that is never going to look the same. We’ve been planing this one for a while and I can’t wait. Photo* by the very talented Natasha Lorenzen Obad *of my house on a good day, so I’m delighted to share! ;)

08.01.2022 Morning! Did anyone else watch Space Invaders on Channel 9 last night? It was the first episode, shot locally, and surprisingly wonderful. I remember Peter Walsh from his Oprah days. His approach is positive and compassionate, and I found myself nodding along at many of the things he said (that doesn’t happen often when watching reality TV, does it?!). I thought he was spot on in helping a couple of empty nesters look forward, and I loved the highlighting of the value... of the items they were letting go of and donating, and the good that would bring to the community. This is such a great focus when choosing to rehome items that have value. Decluttering can change people’s lives - not just your own. Next week's episode is a family that need help with their child's bedroom. I can't wait.

03.01.2022 Hello Everyone! Thank you so much for following this page. I am providing only limited sessions these first few months of 2021, as we are in the midst of our own home & garden renovations which has me busy heavy lifting and constantly dusting. I’ll be posting more when the excitement ends! Did you set any New Year’s resolutions? My main personal home goal this year is to minimise aspirational spending (put down that new cookbook, Kate, you already have 245) and to use up... what we have before purchasing more. Sounds simple, doesn’t it? What does this look like? Well...I am trying to wear and enjoy the clothes I already own (often reaching to the bottom of the pile to see what is there) before I buy new....finishing up the hair products and hand creams before I even allow myself to consider buying others...I am exploring corners of my pantry for inspiration before grocery shopping each week (red lentils?! when did I buy these, what can I make to use them up?)...reading the books that have been getting dusty on my shelves, passing them on to friends or local community book libraries when I am done (recognising that I am not a person who tends to read a book twice)...all the while encouraging my girls do the same, to play with the toys they have, to use up the colouring books and to finish the craft projects, to enjoy the games in the cupboards that we so quickly forget about on quiet Sunday afternoons. By just being aware of what we already have and not looking around for more more more or new new new...it’s been good. So good. I am being increasingly honest with myself about what I tend to spend money on and what I WANT to spend money on....and really trying to make the two come together. And in doing all of this, I can see it reflected in small ways throughout our home. Items are being used up and enjoyed, things are moving around, closets are staying calm and tidy, clothes are being worn, pennies are being saved. Here’s to a happier and calmer 2021 for us all. x Kate
