23.01.2022 Money. It’s an icky topic for most, isn’t it? Us England humans were taught never to ask about how much things cost, or to talk about the money we earned or spent. (I find the whole money mindset notion a bit ‘woo woo’ I don’t need a set of pastel-coloured mantras to help me earn oodles of cash.)... But money causes a reaction in everyone. Whether they realise it or not. Having it, not having it, wanting more, feeling you have enough, tying your self-worth to your earnings or feeling/pretending you don’t care. We all feel some kind of way about our bank balance. And in this blog post I want to talk about my money journey and the lessons I’ve learned along the way. How I went from being skint as a skint beast, to relatively comfy. And no, it’s not going to be a ‘rah rah, look at me lying on my Porsche, pouring Moet on my boobs’ kind of post. But hopefully, more of a useful guide on how I made both practical changes and mental shuffles and how that helped me turn my financial frown upside down. . https://www.katetoon.com/my-money-hurdles/

20.01.2022 Want to know what I’m not doing at the moment? I made a list. 1. I’m not dreaming big... 2. I’m not smashing it. 3. I’m not doing anything like a boss. 4. I’m not hustling. I haven’t written a blog post in eons, my socials are sporadic, my monthly email is not remotely monthly. I haven’t made much progress on my book or my new podcast. I’m not launching anything new until next year. And I’m okay with that. Because you know what? I’m exhausted. It’s been a huge year and we’re not done yet. I haven’t had it half as bad as most, and sometimes I feel guilty for even daring to feel a bit ‘meh’. But it’s not a competition. It’s all relative. So here’s what I am doing instead: 1. I’m sitting in the discomfort of not being a ‘machine’ right now. 2. I’m learning not to measure myself worth by my productivity levels (or my income) 3. I’m looking inwards to my members and customers. 4. I’m thinking about how I can connect and help others. 5. I’m providing a safe space for folk to share how they feel. 6. I’m taking everything down a notch 7. I’m remembering THE WORLD WILL WAIT. And truth is, I’m super optimistic about the future, which isn’t like me, I’m such a doom monkey most of the time. But this year has taught me a lot about the kind of business I want to have. About the person I want to be. About my values and priorities. I don’t see it as a year lost. But some space and clarity won. So my advice? Don’t feel about your to do list. Everything will still be here in a few months time. You’ll find your mojo again, when you’re ready. And when you’re ready, it will be JUST the right time.

19.01.2022 #FREEBIE #TOOLS Ever wonder which apps, tools, and plugins keep the Tooniverse ticking? The answer is quite a few, actually. ... Copybeasts from all over ask me what my fav tools are so I’ve dedicated a whole page to them. If you’re looking for a recommendation in any of the following categories, you should check it out: DESIGN AND PHOTOGRAPHY FINANCE GOOGLE MARKETING & SOCIAL MEDIA MESSAGING / CALLS / VIDEO CALLS PROJECT MANAGEMENT SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMISATION (SEO) THEMES / PLUGINS VIDEOS WEBINARS WEBSITES AND HOSTINGS LEGAL Note: Some of them are affiliates (if that bothers you then just Google the name), but I don’t recommend tools unless I genuinely love them and believe in them. 12.01.2022 #petrol just put petrol in Alan for the first time. Got so confused at first garage i had to drive away due to embarrassment. Next garage pump on wrong side.... Complex 3 point turn into next pump still on wrong side. Left garage. Came back. Worked out how to open flap. Put petrol penis thing in. Pressed lever. No petrol. Asked passing random man. He pressed lever. Petrol came out. Went into shop to pay head low with shame. Woman behind counter kindly said ‘it gets easier.’ I am now exhausted and going to get a coffee and eat some egg to recover. But at least Alan is full now.

11.01.2022 Ah, look at me back then. Pre-business, still employed by ‘the man’. Rather pregnant and wearing pyjama pants.... I was five months pregnant when I started my solo career and quite frankly, I had no idea what I was doing. I was contracting at an agency with no chance of maternity leave, so I needed to start a business and make some money fast. I had no idea about marketing myself, finding clients, managing my money, or organising my day. I was used to being told what to do, not being my own boss. And that was the biggest challenge. Deciding what to do every single day. Turning up, doing the do. Working things out as I went. But I learned and I learned fast. (Wow that first year was tough though, no denying it.) If I could go back and talk to me back then I’d say: 1. There will be highs and lows. 2. For the love of sweet baby cheese, stay on top of your money (quick note here, that the first ever business app I purchased was XERO, it totally changed my business life, I still use it today and it’s the only app I’d never give up). 3. It’s going to get a lot bigger than you thought it ever would. 4. You’re going to love this very much. 5. You’ll never have to go back and work for ‘the man’. I could never have imagined I’d go from that 5 hours a week, inexperienced freelance copywriter to the Digital Marketing beast woman I am today. But we all have to start somewhere, right? Where did you start? When? And why? Let me know in the comments. #Beautifulbusiness #Smallbusiness #paidpartnership #xero

11.01.2022 SEO TIP: URL Optimisation So many people fluff up their URLS, and I get it, URLs are confusing, so let’s keep it simple. I’m not going to tell you what the URL acronym stands for cos frank you don’t care.* So let’s jump to some common mistakes:... 1. ALL THE KEYWORDS: Trying to wedge in every keyword you can ever think of: /sexiest-copywriter-sydney-press-releases-videoscripts 2. WHAT THE: Vague words that have nothing to do with anything: /more /discover 3. SEEING DOUBLE: Duplicating keywords in different parts of your website: /Service/keyword /About-keyword /blog/keyword/keyword /contact-keyword /privacy-policy-keyword 4. FUGLY: Creating URLS that look like you fell asleep on your keyboard: /asd2341asghmm-aqwe/ 5. ALL THE FOLDERS: We’re going down, deep, deep down: /Services/More-services/sub-category/folder-6/video-script-copywriting/ SEO Friendly URLS should be: 1. Keyword focused include your keyword in the URL if it makes sense but don’t stuff it in everywhere. 2. Descriptive Also meaningful and easy to read. 3. Structured - Contain relevant categories and subfolders. 4. Short - Around 3 to 5 words if possible. 5. Different - Try not to double up URLs for blog categories and pages. 6. Lowercase: Ensure you only use lowercase. Bonus tip: Consider that images will end up part of your URL so use hyphens as separators not underscores. * Okay I will: URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator and acts as the location of a web document. So if you enter a URL in the address bar of your browser and it will take you to your webpage. Clever huh? For more tips, tricks and training Google The Recipe for SEO Success
