24.01.2022 You may have seen the Shine Session that I recently did for little Kalani here https://www.facebook.com/KateVickeryPhotography/posts/1826748164057462 The most important thing for this family is to find a cure and to bring research and trials into Australia. They are working tirelessly to raise awareness and funds, while at the same time being sure that their children are all being brought up in a loving, positive environment. Should Kalani relapse their only option is to head... oversees which the government are unable to help fund. Kalani's friends and family will be taking part in the "Walk4BrainCancer" on the November 11th and are looking for sponsors. If you are able to make a donation, even just a small one it would be so greatly appreciated by all of those affected by Brain Cancer. 18.01.2022 Loving on his Mum <3

17.01.2022 Meet Dexter and his family . Dexter's beautiful mum, Lenice, contacted me after hearing about the sessions I offer to families that have some special needs... my Shine Sessions <3 <3 <3 These guys are an amazing little unit. From the minute I met them on the afternoon of the session I felt right at home in their company. They are relaxed, fun loving and so incredibly united in their love and support for Dexter. The bond between each of these family members is something that m...any of us aspire to. Dexter has Cerebral Palsy, Vision Impairment, and he also battled liver cancer in 2012....this little man is more than the superhero his sisters dressed him as for this photo session..... I'm not sure what you call someone stronger than a Superhero other than by his name....Dexter <3 There are two little sisters that are a huge, noisy (their words) part of his life. They are fun loving, compassionate and quirky. They have a beautiful bond with their big brother, and as a sibling of a sister with special needs, I know that these girls will grow up to be two very compassionate, caring, understanding, open minded young women.... they will make their family so incredibly proud and will be such strong advocates for their brother, and also for others in similar circumstances. If you would like to learn a little bit more about Dexter, would like to support him, or even to help raise money for his wish list, please head over to his Facebook Page Love Dexter, his website http://lovedexter.weebly.com/ or follow him on Instagram lovedexter3 Xoxoxoxoxoxoxo See more

17.01.2022 1 year ago, to this exact date, I was a witness to the miracle of childbirth. Happy 1st Birthday Ryan! You will forever hold a place in my heart...watching you take your first breath was one of the greatest honours I have ever experienced. Ceci, you have shown me just how strong, powerful and beautiful a womans body is when it is bringing forth life. Thank you again for allowing me to be a part of such an incredible moment in your life.... Xoxo

13.01.2022 <3 <3 <3 <3 SHINE SESSION <3 <3 <3 <3 I initially made contact with Charlene after following little Kalani's brain cancer diagnosis back in March of 2017. We talked about doing some photos for Charlene to have with her during her stay in Sydney for the most part of 12 months as her family would be separated between Wollongong and Sydney as Kalani underwent surgery, chemo and radiotherapy. Unbeknown to me at that time our family were also dealt a horrible blow when our 7 year ...Continue reading

12.01.2022 This gorgeous little lady is Lexi, and this is her family <3 I was contacted by Emma, Lexi's mum, for a Shine Session (these are sessions that I offer for families that have some special needs) late last year. We were both so excited to meet, because Lexi has been diagnosed with Angelman Sydrome, just like my sister Angela. It quite a rare syndrome, so you don't get to meet too many other families that have a family member with the same diagnosis. Those with Angelman Syndrom...e do have similar features and present some similar traits. It was like traveling back in time and seeing Angie at that age again, and Lexi won my heart over just like Angie always has. Lexi is the most gentle little soul, she spent so much of her session smiling, trying to get my attention, and reaching out to gently touch me on the face. She giggled, she watched and she danced her little heart out when we put some music on my phone for her. Miss Lexi is a Daddy's girl, but has so, so much love for her Mama too. She is also the big sister to Addy, a spunky, fun loving three year old sister who was up for all kinds of fun! It was beautiful to see Lexi relaxed, happy and sharing the love around to each of these important people in her life, and seeing the connection that they all have through their love and support of each other. At the end of the session we took Addy for a run on the beach, which was promised if she helped out during her session.... it was perfection down there. Xoxo See more

12.01.2022 So, yesterday something truly beautiful happend. My little mate Linc, my hero, finished his chemo treatment!! <3 Since his diagnosis in July, Linc has fought a tough battle with the chemo affecting his little body. His smiles have been a little bit fewer at times, but when they do happen they light up the world around him. His family have been inspiring to watch throughout what has undoubtedly been the hardest, most terrifying time of their lives. They have handled everything... with such grace, strength, positivity, love and compassion. I knew this was a special family when I first met them back in April, 2015, and I am so incredibly lucky to be able to call them my good friends now. Lauren's cousin, Jules of Julie Lynne & Co. has put together this heartfelt slideshow & video for everyone to be able to look back on just how much they have conquered in the last 8 months. They have graciously allowed for me to share the video here so that all of you that have sent love, positive thoughts and commented on their posts can see the journey in its entirety and the celebration as treatment is finished. The ringing of the bell signifies the end of treatment....a sound that we have been waiting and dreaming of hearing since the day of diagnosis. Music to my heart!!! <3 <3 <3 https://vimeo.com/203973782 See more

10.01.2022 <3 <3 <3 <3 Shine Sessions <3 <3 <3 <3 Back in September of 2016 I decided to take on a special project to photograph families of those with special needs... "Shine Sessions", because I felt that often these families felt that a session wasn't possible because their child couldn't look directly at the camera, communicate or had behaviours that may seem confronting for a photographer and stranger to handle delicately. These sessions were incredible and I met some truly amazing... families along the way. We worked together at creating beautiful memories while keeping it fun, relaxing and easy for all involved. From there I was also contacted by families who's children were facing major surgery, fighting for their lives and with uncertain futures. These sessions filled my heart and broke it at the same time. After the Leukemia diagnosis of my then 7 year old niece, Swai, I took a step back for a little while. Everything felt a little bit too close to home and I couldn't ensure that I would keep it together for the families I was photographing. Fast forward almost 18 months now and Swai is in remission and doing well. Her future is looking bright and we all have a new take on life and creating memories.... you never know what the future may hold for any of us!! The time has come for me to pursue the Shine Sessions once more. The ultimate goal is to one day start a charity that will fund these sessions.... a kind of 'pay it forward' system where family and friends of those photographed can donate so that another family can experience the gift of memories. I cannot ask these families for money when they are using all they have to fight for their child's well-being and sometimes survival. In the meantime I am going to start small by donating 8 hours a month of my time & services to families that are going through hard times. It doesn't just have to be children that are affected either... the thought of children not having photos and memories of their own parents is equally as heartbreaking. I ask that you privately message my page if you wish to nominate someone to be considered for a Shine Session. I will do my absolute best to photograph as many of the nominees as I can, within reason, expecting it to be very difficult to choose which ones... Feel free to share this post so that I am able to spread the love!! Kate Xoxo

09.01.2022 The greatest gift their parents gave them, was each other...

08.01.2022 2017.... it hasn't quite started out like I thought it would... In early January, after our annual camping trip together, my 7 year old niece, Swai, was diagnosed with Leukemia. I have watched my family's world shatter around them. I have watched a nightmare unfold around them and I have watched them all band together, support each other, and gain strength from each other. I have watched with limitless admiration and love as they have begun to tackle this dreaded disease hea...d on. Swai is considered high risk, but has a 75% cure rate. She is nothing short of amazing. The hospital stays have been handled with smiles and quirky humor for the most part. She is a strong and gutsy little lady, leaving no doubt in any of our minds that she wont overcome this. In such dark and frightening time, I am amazed by the light that shines around us from those that care, be it other family members, friends, and even strangers. People have reached out to me, shared personal stories, and even sent beautiful gifts for Swai...people who's only connection to Swai is through knowing me. I know the light that is shining directly on Swai & her immediate family is so much brighter too. My family is one of the reasons that I love to take photos; the ones that have inspired me to capture life as it unfolds. Swai's mum, Sam, is exactly the same... there is no shortage of photos of our kids, and for this I am so thankful. This morning, my kids spent over an hour going through photos from the last 8 years - they laughed, they asked questions and they remembered. Most importantly they remembered that although Swai has lost her hair, is at times unwell and spends a little bit of time in hospital, it is the same Swai that they have made so many beautiful memories with, and will continue to do so into their old age together <3 <3 <3 Sam VickeryJason Clancy See more

03.01.2022 This is my favourite time of the year to shoot. The colours in the sky and the sunsets are amazing

01.01.2022 Friendships can form from the most chance meeting. I met this gorgeous Mama (Mama to be at the time, 24 weeks pregnant with her little boy, James.) at the City Slider in Port Kembla. We were both watching the action from the bottom of the slide, giggling as people stacked, slid & cheered. We bonded over other people's misfortune ;-) From that day onwards we have kept in touch. Little James was born with a heart condition, that needed immediate surgery. Thankfully he recovered... fully and is now a feisty/healthy two year old. Unfortunately we never got the chance to do newborn photos of him as those first few months of his life were so much for his little family to deal with. Over the next two years of communication we discovered that we both loved the idea of birth photography, of capturing the strength of a woman giving birth, of the emotions involved and of course, in documenting a babies first moments earth side. We even made a deal that if they fell pregnant again, I would photograph the birth and tick it of my Bucket List for life. Well that time is nearly here, and I am so excited/nervous/excited/nervous/excited/nervous.... if you catch my drift!?! Haha! If the stars align (and baby doesn't make too swift of an entrance in to the world), I will watch this little baby arrive into this world and take it's first breath. To say I'm humbled to be a part of this would be a huge understatement! I can't wait to share some of my experience when the time comes. Xoxo See more

01.01.2022 These arms will always be a safe place for you, Hugo

01.01.2022 I am so excited and honoured to share this slideshow with you!!!! I recently posted a maternity session of my beautiful friend Cecelia, and how we met. (See here https://www.facebook.com//a.37882037885/1496442773754671/) As we got to know each other we realised that we both had a love and dream of birth photography & from there a pact was made. For Cecelia, to catpure her stregth, love and connection with her family as she gave birth from her baby boy. For me, to photograp...h and experience birth as a support person. All we needed was for this little baby to comply and arrive in a timely fashion so that I could make it to the hospital in time!!! ;-) At 4.12am I finally received the text that I had been waiting for. She was in labour and they were on their way to the hospital. As soon as I arrived I was welcomed by Cecelia, her husband Tom, and her mother and straight away treated like a member of their family. As the labour progressed, I was totally in awe of Cecelias strength, courage, faith, determination and power. Her body naturally led her through the process. At the times when fear or doubt started to sneak its way in, I watch her family step in with a word, a touch, or an embrace that would re-align her thinking and bring her back to the moment and her ability to bring her baby into this world. At 7.10am I was a witness to a beautiful, perfect baby BOY, Ryan Jack make his entry into the world. I watched this little life take it's first breath, I watched a family fall instantly fall in love and become complete. I saw so many emotions and I am still riding the biggest high from being a part of this special day! As you can imagine, this is such an personal & intimate moment for Ceclia and Tom. I am so incredibly filled with gratitude that they are letting me share this with my community of followers. Welcome to the world little Ryan, September 8the will always hold a special place in my heart. As will you & your gorgeous little family. Xoxo @CeceliaKliendienst P.s there are no graphic photos in this slideshow. It was purely about capturing the strenght, emotion and connection of family during the birth of their baby.

01.01.2022 This is my WHY. I grew up knowing that I wanted to be able to make people feel good, to give them a glimmer of light when the days are dark... I never knew that photography would be the art form that would allow me to do this. It is beautiful thing that my passion has combined to allow me to share my vision. I love this little family, as I do all of the families I meet. You all bring something special into my life. Thank you all for allowing me to capture your amazing little families
