24.01.2022 Creating a beautiful home is all about texture and tone, which is why we loved designing this divine specification. The brief for this petite renovation of a coastal beach home was 'white on white'. Chalky textures, with an emphasis on texture over colour was our response to brief for a kitchenette, en-suite, master bedroom and sitting room. The transformation of this small but perfectly formed space will be breathtaking.
24.01.2022 We recently completed this beautiful project, and we can't wait to show you the full story. Appearing soon in one of our favourite magazines. Photography: Armelle Habib Styling: @greenhouseinteriorsgroup
23.01.2022 A KWD project of contemporary design. This Elwood home was a new build with a clear brief to make the aesthetic modern and conducive to an inner suburban Melbourne lifestyle. With some strong masculine finishes, especially in the bathrooms and staircase, these elements give the house the bold and sleek feel. Softer light timber joinery and ceiling to floor curtains ensure the property is still warm and inviting.... 23.01.2022 This flat lay design is finally about to come to life. We have been quietly working away on this project for around 12 months and it wont be long now before the incredible finishes we have specified are brought to site and installed. From the stunning Turkish Limestone to the luxurious handmade carpets, everything about this new family home is exquisite. Check out the layers of colours and texture. Interior design and joinery design by us at KWD, finishes by KWD&Co. Build by Delco Building Group. We hope to bring you some images from site very soon.
22.01.2022 The landscaping of a property is so important. I feel really strongly about bringing the outside in, and I always recommend that our clients leave money in their budget for their landscaping design. For me, the house starts at the front fence, not at the front door, and people get a feeling, even from the nature strip, about what they are going to experience when they come in to your home. The outdoors is an extension of the indoors. Kate Walker. The photos below are of K...ates project Beechwood, where she engaged Peta Donaldson of BLAC Design to transform the outdoor spaces of this Modern Farmhouse renovation. The difference is amazing. Take a look at our latest blog. Its about the delights of Spring gardening and Heath Blair from Plume Studio talks about the importance of great landscape design: https://kwdnews.blog/2020/09/03/spring-garden-design/
22.01.2022 So many of us use Sunday as a day to prepare for the week ahead, and I don’t know about you, but doing a week’s worth of laundry in this laundry room at Black Beauty wouldn’t be so bad! Designed with Cahill Building Group, incorporating inspiring textures including Farmers Doors joinery, encaustic tiles, vj panelling, brass tapware from The English Tapware Company, metallicus quartzite counter tops and the punchy artwork by Georgie Wilson Artist, this laundry is so much more than just a space for piles of washing! 22.01.2022 Just love how the Sub-Zero and Wolf Australia oven and fridge work together here in our Mt Eliza project, anchoring the gutsy feel of this coastal kitchen. Featuring beautiful KWD & Co. oak flooring, paired perfectly with white Albedor Industries Pty Ltd joinery panels, and of course our fabulous Superwhite Dolomite counter-top and splash-back. Still as relevant as the day we designed it, this home is a happy, bright, family friendly space for a gorgeous family. A collaboration with Rod Hannah Design, photography by Brent Lukey Photographer.
21.01.2022 We have an amazing transformation about to take place at this Dromana project. Incorporating stone, timber, leather and textural tiles, the specifications are typically masculine but with some separate elements of softness. In these difficult times, we are so happy to be creating some magic for these gorgeous clients.
21.01.2022 Our vision for the bedrooms at our Pt Leo project was for each room to feel breezy, relaxed and coastal. The clients were adamant about using colours that they loved so they formed the foundation for the colour story. We wanted to add some scale to the spacious master suite and guest bedrooms, so we designed tall bedheads for each room that were custom made by Sorrento Furniture. The overscale, modern shapes combined with the 1990s-inspired simplistic geometric fabric and colour palette really anchored each space. 20.01.2022 When the delivery of these absolutely sublime Mapio Designs handles arrived in the studio, it sent a wave of excitement through the team! 20.01.2022 "In a renovation process, the installation of the joinery is most definitely a highlight. My design team and I agonised over every detail of the joinery design for my new home, Biscayne. After months of profile design research and development, the Biscayne kitchen is almost ready texture, pattern play and delightful details. In fact the whole design process took around 12 months so to finally see it installed is just incredible. I can’t thank Farmers Doors enough because wi...thout them, the extraordinary joinery designs throughout Biscayne wouldn’t have been possible their product is unbelievable. They have supported us so generously in this project and have enabled us to create our own joinery panel designs that are completely custom. There were so many conversations to get every element just right. And in regards to our joiner, DMA Kitchens, who manufacture Farmers Doors drawings to perfection, their passion for their craft is palpable. They question every element of our designs to ensure the result always exceeds our expectations. And the Hepburn Hardware door hardware is the jewellery that adorns the cupboards door and drawers. The final reveal is getting closer now. I can’t wait to share the story of Biscayne. Kate Walker Hepburn Hardware You can read more here: http://bit.ly/3f6AAik See more

20.01.2022 It's been a long time in the making, with the production crew, cast and property owners, builders and architects nagivating the ever-changing face of 2020. And now, finally, the inaugural series of Australia's Best House launches next Saturday (Feb 20th) @ 6.30pm on 9LIFE! Hosted by Megan Gale, you'll see myself alongside Andrew Purdie and Luke Fry discussing what it takes to create Australia's Best House.
19.01.2022 While it won't be until early next year that we can reveal the full story of Biscayne, we can't help but share sneak peaks with you along the journey! We are so proud of the detail that is coming together in the Biscayne kitchen. After months researching the very best profile to suit the aesthetic of the house and hours spent developing the perfect design in consultation with our friends at Farmers Doors and DMA Kitchens, it’s almost ready. Pattern, texture, innovation and attention to detail - the foundation for what we love at KWD. Thanks also to our key partners who are helping to bring this kitchen to life - Lincoln Sentry, Hepburn Hardware, Montique Construction and Winning Appliances - who have all worked so closely with our team to achieve the best possible result.
19.01.2022 "At KWD we always encourage our clients to invest in quality hard finishes, fixtures and fittings. They are the foundation of any home and are the visual elements that you see, touch and feel every day. If you do make a mistake, the hard finishes are the most expensive elements to replace. You only get one chance to install flooring, wall tiles, kitchen bench tops and splashbacks - and tapware which is one of the most frequently used fittings in a home. So focus your budget on investing in quality hard finishes, fixtures and fittings because you can always build up the furniture, decorator items and artwork at a later stage when funds allow." 17.01.2022 Tapware plays a very active role in the overall decor and design of a home. We often think of it as the jewellery that can dress up or dress down a space. In the Beechwood kitchen we selected this statement combination from The English Tapware Company. The English Bronze finish worked perfectly with the green cabinetry as well as the beautiful soap stone bench top. Tapware is often touched hundreds of times each day so we always consider the style and functionality when selecting for our clients. Photo: Armelle Habib
17.01.2022 Something exciting coming to Mt Martha this year!
16.01.2022 WERE STILL HERE FOR YOU. We know its not easy. Navigating the ever-changing landscape of our circumstances in Victoria is challenging for us all. The most important thing is to stay home, stay safe and look after those we love, and those less fortunate than ourselves. Our thoughts are with the frontline workers who put themselves forward to care for the community. At KWD and KWD & Co. we are still here you to help make your design dreams come true - with virtual and contact...less systems that will give you peace of mind. We have done our due diligence and researched all of the regulations to ensure we fully understand what is permissible under the current stage 4 lockdown. Its vital that we all do the right thing. Our KWD showroom is temporarily closed, however we are still hard at work and ready to work with you. Its not business as usual of course, however our contactless and virtual systems are in place. Our administrative and design teams are working from home so our current design projects can progress seamlessly. Fortunately residential construction is allowed to continue, albeit with a maximum of five trades on site, allowing client projects to move forward. For our new KWD Custom and KWD & Co. Access clients, we are scheduling virtual contactless consultations. The power of Zoom meetings means that we can talk through your design dreams - from our homes to you in your homes. We also have the facility to pack and send your beautiful (sanitised) sample boxes, with contactless safety measures in place. If you would like to contact the KWD team, please call our virtual office on (613) 5974 1800 or email us at [email protected]. If you would like to arrange a contactless consultation, simply click the link: http://bit.ly/2mgftRk For customers placing material orders we will still be able to deliver with our contactless systems. Our warehouses are well stocked so we are ready to go when you are. You can check out our range online here: http://bit.ly/2PtCH2l So, from KWD, its not business as usual, but we are here for you. We are committed, and we are still as passionate and creative as ever. We wish you all a safe passage ahead. We hope that you get some solace spending time at home with your loved ones and take in your beautiful surroundings because at KWD we believe that home really is a sanctuary and a safe place to land. Thank you to our gorgeous clients, past, present and future, who trust us with your most precious asset. Well be very busy designing and forging ahead with all of our exciting projects, working separately but joined together with a united joy of making our clients design dreams come true. 16.01.2022 Always reminiscing on this project that still has my heart xx
16.01.2022 Home is where the heart is and the kitchen is often the heart of the home. We are incredibly proud of the design and finishes we specified for this modern farmhouse kitchen in Flinders, Victoria. Its light filled and relaxed with punches of industrial black throughout. Its quite a compact space but the abundance of the lighter timber in the cabinetry and on the floor creates a more spacious feel. And the butlers pantry means there is ample room for storage and meal prepara...tion. This home is currently for sale through RT Edgar and will undoubtedly become the heart of the home for one very lucky family. 16.01.2022 I was lucky enough to visit one of my favourite KWD projects recently, a home that houses some of my favourite people on earth. Each time I visit I fall more and more in love with this home, designed for my brother and sister-in-law and their daughters, my beautiful nieces. BGD Architects did an incredible job with the architectural work on this project, with the attention to detail from DB Build second to none. I’m so proud of the team work on this project and the final result a project of the heart that inspires passers-by every day.
15.01.2022 Are you ready to join the KWD Design Team? We are looking for an experienced designer who will bring their expertise, energy and enthusiam to our dynamic and dedicated team. 14.01.2022 Talking to Kate... "In the kitchen a deep island bench is a must-have. People often think they need a long island bench but it’s the depth that’s important so you can create two zones, one on either side. And whereas a lot of people believe that a butler’s pantry is a must have, I actually subscribe to a very different thought process. If a kitchen is well designed, we don’t need to find room for a butler’s pantry. The concept is quite antiquated and conjures up the idea of hired help. It separates you from your family completely. To have the woman or the man of the kitchen hidden in a cupboard whilst preparing and cooking is isolating. I much prefer to design kitchen joinery with a concealed appliance cupboard, a concealed breakfast cupboard and a built-in bar."
13.01.2022 Meet the KWD design team. They are an inspiring, intelligent, creative, powerhouse of ideas. Kate, KP, Claire and Isabelle are the women who work together with our clients to ensure every project is a winner. From space planning to joinery design, the team has all aspects of design covered. And when they are not working on a particular project the team is busy keeping abreast of whats new in the design world and are always researching the very latest products. If you engage KWD for your next renovation or new build, you will undoubtedly cross paths with these amazing women.
12.01.2022 KWD has an exciting position available for a senior designer, ready for an immediate start. Do you have the experience, enthusiasm, passion, dedication and attitude that would make you a valuable member of our growing and dynamic team? An A-Grade smile is a must! 10.01.2022 KWD works with the best of the best in the industry. We love collaborating with incredible building designers, contractors, trades and landscape designers. It takes a village to realise the results of any project, and we are so grateful that Montique Construction is a part of the KWD Village.
10.01.2022 Something very special is happening at this property. Plume Studio is creating a spectacular garden oasis, Laguna Pools is also adding some magic outside whilst DMA Kitchens is replacing the old bathrooms and kitchen - with incredible appliances from our friends at Winning Appliances. Montique Construction is overseeing the works and everyone is coping well with the demands of one very particular client!
10.01.2022 This plaid pattern tile is proving to be a hot favourite at KWD. We created it for a Modern Farmhouse project here on the Mornington Peninsula a few months ago. Since then, we have had numerous requests to incorporate it into other homes around Australia. It is a stunning tile and its versatility means it can work in a range of design styles. We look forward to showing you this little gem in situ as the various projects are completed.

09.01.2022 KWD is hiring again. We have a fabulous position in our procurement team. No design experience required. It’s an administration role, supporting our procurement manager with ordering product for our projects. You would be joining a dynamic team of 18 women, working in our studio in Mt Martha. We operate Xero and Salesforce. Experience with these platforms is ideal but not essential. We are looking for someone with a great work ethic, positive attitude and an A-Grade smile. Customer service skills a must. Please send your resume to [email protected]. We can’t wait to meet you!
08.01.2022 More modern farmhouse feels in this Flinders living room. Our Mill Valley timber floorboards are out of this world and really set the tone for the standard of finishes and workmanship at this property. The black doors and feature light create the industrial elements of a modern farmhouse aesthetic whist the Carrara marble on the cabinetry and fireplace provides softness. 08.01.2022 Seeing a project through to its completion is not only extremely rewarding, its also a great opportunity for us to reflect on the journey. Did we meet or exceed our clients expectations? How can we keep improving? Its also pure joy to see the smile on the faces of our clients when their home is ready. "There is no better feeling than viewing a completed project. I like to take my whole team to the property if I can, so we can see how each one of us contributed to the end result." Kate.
08.01.2022 An image that is etched in our hearts at KWD. So much love for this space that I once called home. Light, bright and welcoming, with personal touches that herald what is to come throughout the home beyond.
08.01.2022 When it's time for a KWD photo shoot and we need the best in the business to style the property, Julia Green of Greenhouse Interiors is our number one. Not only does she have an amazing eye for detail, she is one fabulous human! So when Julia was renovating her home and needed new carpet, there was only one carpet on her mind. Having experienced our KWD & Co. natural wool carpet first hand at our photo shoots, she knew how luxurious it felt underfoot...'like walking on clouds....' She could also see first hand that it's beautifully made and hardwearing too. 08.01.2022 Magical is the best way we can describe one of KWD’s latest projects. A totally unique property, this very special space is the latest tiny house accommodation to launch in Victoria. And the journey that led owners Paul and Michelle Rowse to create 'Larnook' is a fascinating tale of the circle of life, and how fate can lead you on a path that you can’t always envisage. Explains Kate Walker, When we first met Paul and Michelle we fell in love with the concept for a variety ...of reasons. The idea of a tiny house with luxurious accommodation set amongst mother nature really inspired the design team. The whole premise we ran with had to emulate the name and create a nest where guests could cocoon in comfort." The first site for Larnook is set in one of the most breathtaking parts of Victoria, and only just over an hour’s drive from Melbourne. Nestled in the Yarra Ranges, a gravelled driveway leads from the road to the Larnook site where you will enjoy the most spectacular view. Regardless of the elements, this spot is equally beautiful when bathed in sunshine and stars or mist and rain every moment is magical. Adds Paul, Guests booking into Larnook can expect a beautiful five star accommodation experience in a unique and private setting. A memorable, luxurious experience in the beauty of mother nature where you can unwind, relax, recuperate and rejuvenate in total privacy. Larnook@Sherbooke is officially open for bookings from December 1st. www.larnook.co Larnook Photos: Mandy Couzens See more

07.01.2022 Talking to Kate... Q: It's wonderful to see arches feature so heavily in the design of 'Black Beauty' - how important were these to the overall success of the home? A: The arches are integral to the European Farmhouse aesthetic that runs through the whole home. The design is based on a European style which is flat and wide compared to a Spanish style arch that is quite rounded. Arches are of course very popular at moment - but the European style adds a different element to this architectural feature.
07.01.2022 Bedrooms are a safe haven, a place to retreat, and for little people to fall asleep. Here’s a sneak peak of a few of the bedrooms at Black Beauty, a project we designed for Cahill Building Group, as recently featured in Australian House & Garden. Gorgeous baby Fleur’s room boasts We Love Fabric peony wallpaper on the ceiling how special for her to wake up and look at flowers and bumblebees! ...The boys’ rooms also feature beautiful wallpapers and custom painted beds, to work back with the wallpaper, making every element in the rooms considered. 05.01.2022 Its full steam ahead on this KWD Custom Geelong project. The home is a Victorian era renovators delight and the changes are going to be incredible. Working via Zoom, FaceTime and phone calls has been no obstacle in keeping this beautiful project on track.

04.01.2022 The team is missing being in the KWD studio. Its such a creative and happy vibe when we are all in there together. Luckily we connect remotely everyday, checking in with each other and still creating magic! These little shelves in one corner of the office display many of the hard and soft finishes we specify, source and supply. But if you look closely youll see they also cleverly highlight the changing colours throughout autumn. Hopefully we will be back in there soon.

And its something our clients can look back on later and reminisce about the process - the challenges and the achievement.
03.01.2022 It's been a long time coming! I can't tell you how wonderful it was to be back on site doing a photo shoot with KWD's favourite crew. With Armelle Habib behind the lense (it doesn't get any better) and stylist extraordinaire Julia Green adding her flair, the day was crazy busy but smooth, and so much fun as always! We have planned this photo shoot for so long and had to scrub out a heap of scheduled dates waiting for lockdown rules to ease, but that is hopefully all behind us... now and we will all be hard at it, photographing the incredible projects we have been working on over the last year. Our first shoot back this week was at our latest finished project, Sable Lodge. It's such a rewarding feeling when we can finally capture the work of the myriad of people who help bring our visions to life. Developed for Project718, we are so grateful to Mark and Steve for trusting our direction implicitly and then executing it without fault. This beauty is for sale now with Aqua Real Estate Pty Ltd. There were so many professionals involved in the project, including Rod Hannah Design Group, KWD & Co., Lighting Options, Inspire Floors, Farmers Doors And Kitchen, New Vision Electrical, Andrew Stark Garden Design, Marc Toussaint Constructions, White Picket Interiors and Lynch's Window Fashions. With two more projects in the pipeline with the boys from Project 718, it’s going to be an exciting year 2021! See more

01.01.2022 It’s becoming harder and harder to contain my excitement as the finishing touches go in at Biscayne! This sublime Cosmopolitan stone from Gladstones Granite & Marble in Jemima’s bathroom for example, has taken my breath away. The double bullnose, the depth of colour, the texture, the glossy finish, all works so beautifully with the Farmers Doors joinery, Hepburn Hardware hardware and the The English Tapware Company Perrin & Rowe basin. This small space is going to delight with its detail, and so many people have been involved in this little corner of just one room at Biscayne, including Montique Construction Pty Ltd, Rod Hannah Design, DMA Kitchens, Henry Mastertiler and Direct Stone. Can’t wait to share more of this very special and personal project with you soon.
01.01.2022 Talking tapware... Good quality tapware in both the bathroom and kitchen is always a must-have. If you counted how many times a day you use a kitchen tap you would want to make sure you have one that works beautifully and that you love. If your budget doesn’t allow you to have Perrin & Rowe taps throughout your home, just stretch to install one in the kitchen only. A great kitchen design is only a phone call away - talk to the KWD design team on (613) 5974 1800 or book a KWD ...Access online consultation today: https://bit.ly/3f9QRDa KWD & Co. 01.01.2022 Our KWD & Co. team recently did a poll to find out if you prefer light or dark oak flooring, and it turns out that there was an overwhelming preference for lighter timber floors. In fact 82% of respondents voted for a lighter look. Whatever you're style, the KWD & Co. range of European oak flooring is so beautiful to the eye and heavenly to walk on.
