12.01.2022 Polar Eyes was the first kids' book I edited and I have many fond memories of the process. Written by my colleague and friend Tanya Patrick after a trip to Antarctica, the story/activity book was lots of fun to work on with her. As a bonus, I also had lots of fun* machine-embroidering the animals that appear on the front cover and throughout the book! ... Polar Eyes won the Honour Book award in the CBCA Eve Pownall Book of the Year 2010. It's available from https://www.publish.csiro.au/book/6533/. If you are looking for an experienced editor to help you with your next children's book project, I invite you to get in touch with me! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ * For the interest of any other embroiderers out there, I sketched a rough outline of some of the illustrations, which were mostly based on Tanya's photos, onto white felt with a pencil. I backed the felt with quilt wadding and then 'drew' the pictures in free-motion quilting style using black Rasant cotton. As well as having fun, I might have also sworn rather a lot during this process...!
