As a consumer I have been eating Kathleen Haven persimmons for over 10 years which are simply the best How long have you been involved with persimmons and what are some of your memories? I have been eating persimmons since I was a child but my introduction to Kathleen Haven and learning about so many amazing recipes using persimmon I have become even more passionate about this fruit my Mum is seriously crazy about persimmons and can’t wait for them to start. What is your favourite way to eat them ? The Hachiyas scooped out and added to yoghurt for breakfast or simply bury my face in it -the Fuyu like an apple skin and all Do you have a favourite persimmon dish ? Vegan cheesecake topped with persimmon delicious Do you have a favourite variety? The Hachiyas soft and squishy but Mum loves them both - for her Persimmon is the best fruit on the planet- to quote her I love everything persimmon. The Hachiya's are the ripe persimmons that are available now, they are the soft variety. Hachiya 'heart fruit' is ready when the skin becomes transparent and they feel like a water balloon simply hold in two hands, split the skin with your thumbs raise to your mouth and enjoy or cut in half and scoop out the honey like pulp with a spoon or puree and t...op. Fuyu persimmons are the crunchy persimmons, they won't be ready for sale until the end of May! 21.01.2022 Why not start the day in a healthy way with a delicous Hachiya, a dollop of yogurt and a sprinkling of your favourite muesli. Kate says "This delicous breakfast is so easy to make and the jelly like Hachiya persimmon is perfect to swirl through the yoghurt. 18.01.2022 When selecting Fuyu persimmons, look for ones that are yellow-orange in color and firm to the touch. Fuyus will stay firm for two or three weeks at room temperature. Eventually, after about three weeks, they will soften somewhat like the Hachiya. At this stage, some people feel the Fuyu's sweetness reaches its peak. Their crispness can be prolonged by refrigeration if the temperature remains close to freezing (32F) but once the fruit is returned to room temperature, it will ...soften. Surprisingly, persimmons stored at normal refrigerator temperature, about 40F, will actually deteriorate faster than if stored at room temperature (55F.) Even though, Fuyus look heartier than Hachiyas, they can also bruise easily. These bruises will not show externally, so they should be handled with care.
