24.01.2022 Another new blog post, my kind of random thoughts on what is a recipe? http://www.kathrynelliott.com.au//20/9/21/what-is-a-recipe

23.01.2022 Beautiful. @LifeTimeCooking on the change in season http://ow.ly/ZMp9m "Today, with its cool morning, with the sunny cool day, with the golden light so different to summers blue haze, with the long shadows and slower pace, Autumn truly arrived."

22.01.2022 Thought provoking piece from the Washington Post http://ow.ly/XfuHc "We will be healthy if we eat nutritious food. Our food is either nutritious or not. We are healthy or we are not. If we eat nutritious food, we may enhance what health we possess.... Because, and this is the judgment call, fat isnt bad; stupid is bad. And until we have better information and clearer shared language defining our food, smart choices will be ever harder to make."

20.01.2022 In the US, 7 million pets go missing every year, 26% of dogs are reported and returned, but for cats, it's less than 5%. The Oatmeal has come up with a solution to this problem. The Kitty Convict program. Is your cat a convict?

14.01.2022 I'm in complete agreement ..."I've lost count of how many times I've read through a recipe and thought, yeah, not doing that. My co-workers are with me. While we all have endless respect for recipes and cooking things the right way, we also all agree that, sometimes, the best step is ignoring the step completely. Here are seven examples." ... although I do toast spices! http://ow.ly/Sw6B306pet9

14.01.2022 My first blog post in about 2 years! http://www.kathrynelliott.com.au//9/9/cooking-with-opinions

13.01.2022 I think I'll be making this during the week, with the half cabbage in my fridge - Rice & smothered cabbage, turned into multiple meals http://ow.ly/YjIZ8

13.01.2022 Apparently it's International Scone Week - who knew such a thing existed? Well if you wanted to celebrate, these look delicious... http://ow.ly/fBCa3039VHH

13.01.2022 A good reminder - Stop comparing yourself to others and get on with your important work. From the ever wise Michael Nobbs of Sustainable Creative. http://ow.ly/Yjohx

12.01.2022 "The casserole tasted exactly as youd imagine: an alchemy of salt and lipids designed to flow to the pleasure centers of your brain before, shortly afterward, migrating to the shame centers and then hardening in the arteries" http://www.slate.com//allrecipes_reveals_the_enormous_gap_

12.01.2022 We received beautiful King Edward potatoes in our Ooooby box last week. On Sunday night, I was thinking about being lazy and just making them into wedges to have with frittata. Then I saw this lovely looking recipe: https://www.lovepotatoes.co.uk//alex-mackays-baked-king-e/

12.01.2022 Me, surprisingly some might say, writing about Cyclocross (and swearing a bit) on Spokes(wo)man... https://spokeswoman.squarespace.com//224srnncnm3ctgy6uzrhl

11.01.2022 For the last two weeks I've been trialing the HelloFresh recipe and Ingredient delivery service. I had the offer of a 50% off trial, which co-incided with me starting studying again and the idea of not having to plan or even think about dinner for a couple of weeks was very appealing. This week's box arrived this morning, in the wee small hours. Inside are recipe cards and all the ingredients I need to make three different meals (excluding a few pantry staples like olive oil).... The ingredients come wrapped in a big wooly coat (this Woolcool packaging: http://blog.hellofresh.com.au//goodbye-polysterene-hello-/ ). On the menu this week are Pesto Pizza with Pumpkin and Parmesan, Roasted Chickpea and Cauliflower Salad with Yoghurt Dressing and a Japanese Tofu Sushi Bowl with Wasabi Mayonnaise.

11.01.2022 I know I haven't posted here for a while, but how could I resist an article titled 'Our 10 Best Beetroot Recipes'? From The Guardian, via A Life Time of Cooking - Heat in The Kitchen http://ow.ly/DY4g3037Ssf

10.01.2022 I've set up a What's in Season page on my website - take a look to find out what's fresh and best at the moment. In Sydney it's mangoes, peaches, lychees, zucchini, cucumbers, eggplant... Sigh it's a good time of year for fruit and veg over here. How about you? What's in season where you live? http://www.kathrynelliott.com.au/in-season

10.01.2022 Really interesting piece from The Conversation on why Australian food is so expensive http://ow.ly/101hC8

09.01.2022 Really interesting piece from The Washington Post about the salt debate and why there are constantly conflicting messages about whether it's bad for you, or okay to eat. "The inability to resolve this question may seem puzzling. It is a question with deadly consequences, at least potentially. How much salt is healthy? Given the marvels of technology, it seems like that ought to be an easy one. Now a review of hundreds of papers on the topic indicates that the inability to reach a consensus stems at least partially from the fact that the two groups of scientists operate, in essence, in parallel scientific universes." http://ow.ly/YxtI1

07.01.2022 Brilliantly funny review of the first episode of My Kitchen Rules http://ow.ly/XP5dx "Dessert is sticky fig and date pudding, which will no doubt enrage Pete to the point of hurling the incredibly non-paleo dish across the room. Oh wait, no, he just eats it. Weird. Manu thinks the pudding has too much sauce, which is a really vicious bit of bait-and-switch from him. Pete agrees there is too much sauce, and not enough mastodon."

03.01.2022 I love the sound of this salad from Heidi of 101 Cookbooks. It's a lovely way to use up leftover rice. It's simple, packed full of flavour and something I could imagine making over and over and over again, with all sorts of variations and tweaks. http://ow.ly/4nryGl

02.01.2022 Beetroot and sumac soda! https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/beet-sumac-soda

01.01.2022 I made this over the weekend and it's quite delicious. It is (of course) gloriously pink - mine is far more pink than the neat version they have photographed - and the beetroot, feta and rosemary work together very well. As it's a soda bread, it also comes together quickly, no kneading or proving required. I would make again. http://www.deliciousmagazine.co.uk//beetroot-and-feta-sod/

01.01.2022 There's a new blog post up on Limes & Lycopene - Are you eating the happy path? http://ow.ly/ZhH1B
