25.01.2022 WE LEARNT THE LAST TIME - EVERY SINGLE VOTE COUNTS!! Postal votes now open for registration - State Elections around the corner October 31st. With Covid this is a good option for those who are vulnerable, or simply just busy. ... Go straight through the ECQ website if you don’t want your data collected by political parties offering you this ‘community service’. Again, list of candidates so far nominated, and candidate forums currently scheduled - share this link so people can inform their vote. All political candidates and persuasions are represented here: https://www.oscar.org.au/go/elections/state-elections-2020/ DEMOCRACY IS A VERB - IT’S A ‘DOING WORD’ https://www.facebook.com/412240399123468/posts/1265176097163223/

24.01.2022 ‘’ - ' ?? The developer is arguing in its Notice of Appeal that the reasons for refusal can be conditioned. Great!! Save us all the time, money and angst and go back and lodge an application that actually works! ... They had half a dozen stabs at conditioning the flood model for example - and it still doesn’t work. The courts are there to uphold the law - not tweak flood models. WE’LL SEE THEM IN COURT - BUT I STAND BY THE FACT THAT CIVIC DUTY SHOULD NOT BE A FULL-TIME UNPAID JOB!! 22.01.2022 SOME RULES AREN’T MEANT TO BE BROKEN I am happy to have been asked to be spokesperson for this important legal precedent underway right now. There is appropriate process to undertake to amend the planning scheme - doing so at the development application stage is a very slippery slope. ... Development Watch is leading the charge through the review court and are again raising funds to the tune of 100k to take this appeal over the line against big Corp and our own council. This is not just a Sekisui / Yaroomba issue, if this appeal is dismissed it will become a precedent and it will then become case law. Meaning, it opens the gates for gross disrespect of town plans everywhere in every community - at the DA stage. The Sunshine Coast planning scheme 2014 is the rules based statutory document that we all agreed on, paid $15 million for and is intended to provide assurance to residents, investors and the business community alike as they undertake due diligence before investing in an area. It is important the primacy and integrity of the planning scheme is respected. FAIR’S FAIR If you wanted to renovate your home or build a carport you would have to comply with the codes in the scheme, full stop - and so should influential developers. I am not aware of a resident who has been obliged overriding of the planning scheme in order to approve a non conforming development application. Please consider a donation to this important action undertaken by community groups and volunteers against teams of Corp solicitors and barristers - let’s help give the underdog a fighting chance, for the principle, for the character and amenity of towns everywhere, and to show that community consultation is not a ‘token gesture’, it is mandated to be meaningful, and to be heard. THIS APPLICATION SIMPLY SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN APPROVED. In the news: https://www.facebook.com/127243834444703/posts/961169614385450/?vh=e Donate here: https://gf.me/u/ytwiwv

20.01.2022 IMPORTANT ACTION I support a Royal Commission into the monopoly we are seeing in our print media. Media Watch did a great blurb on it.... We need to support our journalists and editors to deliver balanced journalism, especially when elections can be skewed and important stories are gagged. 14.01.2022 JUST IN - MAROOCHYDORE ELECTORATE - FORUM I’ve been doing my research and cannot find a single thing relating to the Independent candidate Janet Creevey. Anyone know anything? I support Independence in politics and I understand the obstacles, but I know how easy it is to put a Facebook page up in order that people could find me or contact me to inform their vote.... A State seat is a massive job full of challenges, more challenging than putting up a Facebook account. What a shame. I will watch with interest. You can subscribe to see what they have to say or send in your question. I’ve included the dialogue given the time constraint in the event some of you may register via the link to go in person. I’LL GIVE AN UPDATE AFTER THE SHOW! https://www.sunshinecoastdaily.com.au//ask-now-ma/4122646/ Dear readers, The Queensland election is upon us and this is your chance to ask the candidates in Maroochydore your questions before you cast your vote by October 31. The Sunshine Coast Daily, in partnership with the Maroochydore Chamber of Commerce, will host and livestream a candidate debate for the seat of Maroochydore. The debate will be held at the Alexandra Headland Surf Live Saving Club from 6pm on Wednesday, October 21. To attend the event register here. To ask your questions, email [email protected]. Maroochydore is one of the most hotly-contested seats in the region with nine candidates lining up for the state election. LNP's Fiona Simpson, one of the longest serving members of parliament and Queensland's first female speaker, has held a tight grip on Maroochydore since the seat was created in 1992. But former councillor and ex-Wallabies coach John Connolly, who is running as an Indepedent, hopes preferences will go in his favour and he will be able to end Ms Simpson's reign. Mr McCormack, Ms Smith and Ms Creevey are yet to confirm their attendance at the live debate.

14.01.2022 I wear several hats and thought I would share a relevant post from the TWW&S facebook page. MEDIA RELEASE (8 SEPT 2020) TWW&S TO ACT AS CO-RESPONDENT ON STOCKLAND APPEAL ALONG WITH SUNSHINE COAST COUNCIL AND OTHER KEY COMMUNITY GROUPS In response to the Stockland Notice of Appeal in relation to its proposed TWW development, the Executive committee of TWW&S Inc has today announced it will act as a co-respondent to the appeal and have lodged appropriate documents accordingly.... Kathryn Hyman President of Twin Waters West & Surrounds, says It is time Stockland stopped wasting the limited resources of Council and local community groups. Enough is enough. Stockland have now submitted two development applications over the years beginning 2008 in relation to the TWW 104 ha floodplain site. Each has been knocked back by Council and once in the courts. Councils recent rejection of the proposed development by a resounding 8-2 vote against the development should be respected by Stockland. Stockland should also respect the Councils Planning scheme and the overwhelming rejection of development on the land voiced by the majority of local residents. She adds, Apart from developing a housing estate accommodating thousands of residents on flood prone land, the development approvals have been substandard on each occasion and have failed to satisfy key elements of the Sunshine Coast Councils Planning Scheme of 2014. The developer is arguing in its Notice of Appeal that the reasons for refusal can be ‘conditioned’. Hyman continues, IF THE PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT CAN BE ‘CONDITIONED’ TO MAKE IT WORK WHY WOULDN’T STOCKLAND MAKE IT WORK IN THE FIRST PLACE? They have the means and resources to do just that. This is taxing on communities, council and the public purse. In reality, rather than wasting the local communities’ and courts resources Stockland should either walk away from the development, listen to the local community and develop a suitable environmentally friendly job creating alternative, or simply lodge a compliant application like every other developer or individual is expected to do. In our view the courts are expected to uphold the law - not tweak flawed self-interested flood models. She concludes, We are pleased that other reputable community organisations along with many local residents have indicated they will be joining TWW&S in acting as co-respondents against Stockland in the upcoming appeal as a unified front in solidarity with council. 12.01.2022 SEKUSUI TRAFFIC DISPLAY - TOMORROW, SUNDAY 27th, 3.30 PM Let’s see how an extra 900 cars at peak hour twice a day every day translates on the ground. Sekisui’s modelling, and council’s approval of the development apparently demonstrates traffic won’t be an issue for locals and visitors alike.... During the previous traffic display in 2017 200 cars participated and it was gridlock, and that did not come close to the actual figures modelled. I was there - people were stressed out and it was just one hour of one day! This is an exercise in demonstrating the disconnect between papers being pushed around tick and flick exercises, and the actual impacts in real time. 3.30-4.30 Goongilla Street through Boardwalk Roundabout. Please participate if you can. LETS SEE HOW THIS TRANSLATES ON THE GROUND IN DAILY LIFE

11.01.2022 GOTTA LOVE COMMUNITY SPIRIT Not only are locals and visitors going to get cranky with the gridlock, we are losing a lot of car parks, businesses will lose patronage and buses will run late. That’s not to mention other professional drivers including emergency vehicles stuck in traffic snarles trying to go about their business and attend to those in need where sometimes life actually depends on it and every second counts. ... When you think about it, and then demonstrate it, it just doesn’t stack up. Traffic flow figures and funds raised to come. WELL DONE EVERYONE- AND THANK YOU - WE MADE OUR POINT

08.01.2022 STATE ELECTION FEVER WILL SPIKE - WHO SAID INDEPENDENTS ARE INEFFECTIVE? Let’s dig. In May, the Queensland Government announced its $400 million COVID-19 Accelerated Works Program for road projects across the State. ... Why is it that the only state MP for Noosa, Independent Sandy Bolton, managed to secure substantial funding for her region, yet our SSC 7 branded MP’s combined barely got a look in? The Noosa Shire received $27.5 million from this program for two projects - Six Mile Creek Bridge Upgrade along Pomona-Kin Kin Road ($18 million) and Beckmans Road and Cooroy-Noosa Road intersection upgrade ($9.5 million). The Sunshine Coast Council area only received $3.75 million for one project - Caloundra Road and Ridgewood Road intersection upgrade. Question mark. Full stop. Being a politician is a paid position, it’s a job that can be judged by outcomes. I’m shopping for independents who aren’t under gag orders, party politics and towing of lines against their better judgement. According to stats, people are swinging towards independent candidates because they’re fed up with party politics. Let’s keep an eye out for them, inform our vote and give those underdogs a look in - local outcomes suggest we could all be better off. It’s difficult for busy people to access all this information at election time to inform their vote - there is no entity that does this to assist the voting public. There is now - the peak rate payer association of the SSC, OSCAR, is a non partisan NFP organisation whose website lists ALL candidates, their contact details and relevant information, they also administer surveys of candidates as a platform for the voting public to inform their vote. It’s a fabulous resource for all political persuasions. Nominations officially open October 5, closing October 13. Election is October 31st. Keep an eye out for those underdogs and scratch the surface! Please share with busy people.
