For over two decades Kathryn Ryan has been documenting the landscape of South West Victoria, most particularly the trees that mark the region’s farmlands. She has shrouded the landscape in a moody light evoking a sense of ethereal ambiguity. But even as she brings us the familiar, Ryan continues to bring something new. Her focus shifts, her techniques grow, and her themes continue to evolve. She gives us a reason to keep exploring this landscape with her, to know it even more intimately and ever more profoundly. For many years I have painted the South West Victorian landscapes which are so familiar to me, capturing the wintery conditions and quality of light, evoking a calm and contemplative space. 19.01.2022 A lovely memory of exhibiting in Abu Dhabi with our artists collective ‘No White Walls’ , where we held yearly exhibitions at @fairmontbabalbahr With Sean Blake , @kathryryanartist Janine Ibbini , @jensimonart @juliaibbini @imemilygordon @andrewfieldfineart #repost @andrew_field_fine_art ... A younger self in 2013 having a photo taken for The National newspaper to promote No White Walls, a collective of Abu Dhabi artists that I was proud to be part of and helped contribute to the growing art scene in Abu Dhabi. This was our third group exhibition at #thefairmontabudhabi and featured very talented artists from America, New Zealand and the UK. It would be fantastic to have another exhibition in the UAE one day, hopefully in the not too distant future! I would@love to visit places on Yas Island and Saadiyat Island to see how they have changed.
