25.01.2022 Are you getting enough Protein in your diet? I talk to people every day about what they can do to reduce their pain and manage their muscle tension at home. It feels like our bodies aren't keeping up with the demands and stress of modern life - which plain sucks, lets be honest. It's more important than ever to make sure we make an effort with our diets. Don't over complicate it and make these massive grandiose changes (I've tried this on more than one occasion and bombed out... every time). There are heaps of studies out there that talk about the benefits of having a high protein diet, but as your friendly local Remedial Therapist, I'm thinking about it in terms of your recovery for your muscles. Even if you don't exercise, you can benefit from having a high protein diet. According to the BBC's GoodFood.com: "When chronically stressed the body has increased demand for protein. Protein requirements are estimated at 0.7-1.8g per kg body weight daily. Choose lean meat, chicken, fish, eggs, beans, lentils, nuts and seeds in each meal. Protein helps to slow the release of sugar into the blood stream." Personally, I've increased my protein intake in the last month and seen some great results in my own muscle tension and recovery. Some of my favourites are Greek Yogurt, nuts and fish. My new favourite lately has been the cans of sardines in tomato sauce, but Bear can't stand the smell so I have to eat it in the next room haha. You can add some protein powder to a shake (we are coming into spring of course) or however you like it. Keep it simple, and always take care of yourself. Kathryn
24.01.2022 Further Announcement with New Information. I am very angry and frustrated right now. I have just received further information that because Remedial Massage is not AHPRA registered, we are not classed as Allied Health Practitioners and are to cease all services tonight. This is coming from the Department of Health via Alan Tudge, Federal Liberal MP and forwarded to members of the Association of Massage Therapists (AMT) and is contrary to the announcements by the 2 other associ...ations I quoted in my previous announcement - ANTA and the MMA. I am sorry, but as of tonight I must close as per the Federal Governments orders. I will be contacting everyone who has an appointment in the morning. I'm sorry, but I am very angry at these associations for not clarifying with the government their expectations, and I am glad the AMT have done so, so that I can comply in accordance with what is right and best for our nation right now in this very difficult time with this horrible virus. I am terribly concerned, because I have a number of clients who rely on my services to manage their pain and movement. If any of you are having any issues, please feel free to DM me here or text my phone and I may be able to give you some general advice over text or phone about what may possibly help that you can do at home. You can still go to physiotherapists, osteopaths and so forth for treatment of pain, and I hope you are able to take care of yourselves and your families. What is most important though in this time is the safety and welfare of everyone, and stopping the spread of this virus. I hope that compliance with these measures will help save lives and reduce the risk of our vulnerable friends and family members becoming infected. I am very sorry again. Take care and I will let you know when I am back in operation.
22.01.2022 Just a personal note, I just wanted to let everyone know my daughter Gabby finally had her surgery today after months of waiting. It went well and she's still asleep. 3-4 nights in hospital in Brisbane then back home for lots of cuddles with her cat Sam. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers while she has gone through this. I'm so incredibly grateful she was still able to have her much needed surgery despite the current COVID-19 pandemic.

16.01.2022 This is a photo from the 80 hour Dry Needling Course I completed this weekend with CPD Health Courses. My partner here is Louise and she's an awesome physiotherapist from Brissy. I was studying here with physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths and some other remedial massage therapists. The course was absolutely fantastic and I can't wait for my equipment order to come and really show anyone who is interested how awesome Dry Needling can be!

11.01.2022 Remedial Massage Has Been Approved To Reopen In QLD! Hello Everyone, on Wednesday morning the announcement was made, that the QLD Government made amendments to the exceptions of what is considered a non-essential business. Under "Spas and massage parlours" they have added into the Exceptions column: "...Massage therapy for the management or prevention of a disease, injury or condition, provided by a qualified massage therapist, with social distancing observed to the extent p...ossible." You can read it here: https://www.health.qld.gov.au//non-essential-business-clos As such, I will be reopening my business as of Tuesday the 28th of April but I have decided to stop working Mondays, so that I am only working 5 days a week from now on. I have also been directed by my association ANTA, to limit the longer appointment times, particularly the 90 minute and 120 minute appointments to clients who genuinely need that long for management of their injury or condition. As a reminder, if you have any cold/flu symptoms, or any concerns of having any viral infection, please don't come. COVID-19 aside, a massage can make any virus worse (and I tell people this every Winter). I will be implementing the extra measures I was putting in place before we got shut down to stop the spread of COVID-19. Thank You and I look forward to seeing you again! Kathryn PS. My daughter's surgery went well and she's on the mend. We got back home late Tuesday night, that's why there's been a delay and I'm not starting back until Tuesday next week. Thank you again! Here is what I have available for the next fortnight (UPDATE: They are going like hot cakes!): 28/04 Tuesday: FULL 29/04 Wednesday: FULL 30/04 Thursday: FULL 01/05 Friday: FULL 02/05 Saturday: FULL 05/05 Tuesday: FULL 06/05 Wednesday: FULL 07/05 Thursday: 3:45pm, 5:15pm 08/05 Friday: 10:15am, 1:15pm, 3:45pm 09/05 Saturday: 12pm, 2pm, 3:30pm If you are interested in any of these times, the fastest way to secure it is through my Online Booking System at www.kathrynsremedialmassage.com/bookings Or you can call / text me at 0427 251 487. Have a wonderful weekend and Take Care
08.01.2022 Hello everyone! So I finally made a video about Dry Needling! I'm so excited to introduce this technique! It certainly is the best thing I've learned since becoming a Remedial Therapist. I just wanted to explain a little bit about it so you can make an informed decision about whether it's something you want to try. You definitely don't have to if it's not your thing!... I mentioned in the video you can find a link to my consent form which is here: www.kathrynsremedialmassage.com/clientconsent I should mention that it's not possible to promise any results. You are a unique individual with a unique set of genetics and circumstances. If you are struggling with pain then this is just another possible road that may give you some relief. If you have any questions at all feel free to contact me! Thanks and Take Care
07.01.2022 Guess who just enrolled in Dry Needling? This little puddle duck! I will be studying along side doctors, physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, naturopaths etc in (what I'm told by the higher powers) one of the safest and most comprehensive Dry Needling courses in Australia. For those who don't know, Dry Needling is a bit like Acupuncture (the same needles) but much more simple and "Westernised" I guess. It's focusing more on muscles rather than meridians.... I am really hoping this will help give you an even better result... and myself less hand strain. This is an OPTIONAL extra you can have as a part of your treatment and if you don't like it then I won't push you to try it - easy peasy. So fingers crossed the Dry Needling will be available as of October :D
07.01.2022 I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful weather! Today I started walking our 7 month old "baby" Freyja. She's a bit OTT for the first 5 mins but then she starts to settle. First walk down Pillar St and back this morning. Hopefully she will start calming and I can take her around Hume and Spring soon

02.01.2022 Good Morning, I just wanted to let everyone know that after a long wait we finally have a surgery date in Brisbane for my daughter Gabby, on Thursday the 19th of March. I will not be available between the 19th - 25th of March and depending on how she is, I may see a reduced number of clients until she is better (though I am assured she will be on the mend and feeling better quite quickly). Thank you everyone for your prayers and support during this very difficult time, we a...re so glad she will finally be able to get well and go back to her normal life. If anyone would like to book online, I have crossed off the dates I am not available on the online booking system, so feel free to book whatever it says is available. You can do that here at: http://www.kathrynsremedialmassage.com/bookings Thank you and Take Care, Kathryn.
