25.01.2022 Happy Easter Everyone!! Enjoy the long weekend and all the chocolate.....

25.01.2022 Looking forward to coaching this afternoon in this glorious Melbourne weather!!

25.01.2022 Happy Birthday to all the horses and ponies out there. I hope you get extra special treats in your feed today and big cuddles from your owners.

25.01.2022 To the Upper Beaconsfield Pony Club riders yesterday who rode in the aweful rain all morning but still managed to be enthusiastic and try their best WELL DONE! For the first time ever, I coached under an umbrella and stayed dry :) See you all next rally!

24.01.2022 Interschool dressage is on again tomorrow at Ayr Hill Equestrian centre. I wish all my students the best of luck and hope you have a wonderful day. Looking forward to hearing how you go xx

19.01.2022 A wonderful result for Lauren today who finished with two second placings in the Elementary, scoring 70% in one of the tests - just awesome!! This cemented her position as Reserve Champion for the series, congratulations Lauren (& Riley too)!!

19.01.2022 Ahh, winter is coming and I could say something really negative but I'm going to always look to the bright side. Winter means that the horses get longer hair making them more cuddly than ever. I also love the way they breathe steam out into the air and that the dressage arenas dont get all dusty.....

19.01.2022 I'm on the hunt for some Pony Club rider's who would like to be demonstration rider's for an NCAS assessment day I'm organising at Dingley Pony Club on Saturday 30th November. We would like D,D* and C,C* rider's. You would need to be ready for gear check at 9,30am. This is a great opportunity to have some free coaching and get your horse out to another venue. Rider's will need to wear approved helmet, boots, medical armband and Pony Club polo shirt. Please msg me with your details asap if you are able to come. Thanks Heaps, Kathy

18.01.2022 Well done to the girls who attended Officer Pony Club Combined Training day yesterday. There were some wonderful results. Yay to Stacey for a 6th place in the dressage Gr4, Emily too placed in dressage Gr5 and also jumped clear to be in the placings. Mikaela starred with a 1st place in Gr2 Dressage and 3rd Place in her first ever Gr1 Dressage. Treasure that blue ribbon, they are hard to get!! Not sure how Paige and Molly went, will post when I know! So proud of you all :)

17.01.2022 Couldnt resist taking this cute picture of my dog 'Pippy'. In her nice warm coat trying to find the cosiest place in the back yard (plus I think she's spying on me in the study too). Look forward to a big day of lessons tomorrow, I think the plan is to dress WARM!!

17.01.2022 Good luck to all those competing at interschools tomorrow. Special mention to Lauren doing her first Elementary test - awesome!! Mikaela and Sammi are riding their new horses at their first comp - double awesome!! Remember to keep your warm up similar to how you warm up at home, lots of rein changes to create suppleness; lots and lots of transitions to make sure the horse is on your aids; add in components of your test (ie; shoulder-in, lengthenings etc) ; stay relaxed and calm and hopefully your horse will too!! Let me know how you go xx ps Molly had an exciting day yesterday, taking 3 yo Queenie off the property for the first time. She was a bit anxious but once I got on to ride, she was lovely and well behaved. Thanks to Kevin for his help with floating.

15.01.2022 We really experienced the glory of Melbourne weather this weekend. Beautiful sunshine Saturday, then wind, rain (sideways) and cold winter temps today. Thanks to all the fantastic riders today at Langwarrin Pony Club who never complained regardless of the conditions :) It was still a fun day - I look forward to seeing you all again in 2014. Quick congrats too for more results from Saturdays interschools. Sam placing 3rd and 4th in the prelim & 4th and 5th in elementary. Mikaela rode in the Novice for 3rd and 5th. Emily did super in the Prelimary primary school level for a 60% & 65% just out of placings but very good percentages. So very proud of all my riders who always try their best and work very hard each and every time they ride.

13.01.2022 I have been thinking about human fear and how it relates to our riding. Fear is a means of keeping us safe. When around horses, safety concerns are usually the prime triggers of our fear response. This fear can undermine the training of the horse, as he will sense it through your body language and then feed off it. We therefore need to be less fearful (sometimes seems hard to achieve) and more assertive, confident and more aware of how our horse thinks. So how do we achiv...e this confidence/assertiveness so we reduce our fear? Firstly, learn to understand what we are doing with the horse, so he can understand. For example, know the qualities of a good walk (regular, free and unrestrained) and know the way to ride it well (elastic elbows moving so that horse can move his head/neck, soft hands but closed fingers around reins, relaxed seat in saddle, legs lightly closed around horse). Have confidence that the horse can do this well, and if he seems to be off course a little and loosing that great forward walk, catch him quickly and be assertive with your aids to go forward again. This is the key. Praise the horse when he gives the right response. Being an assertive rider sets the horse up mentally and physically for the ride ahead. The horse will know right from the beginning of the ride what level of expectation is set. When the horse understands he responds more quickly and more willingly to our cues, creating fewer conflicts and making us feel more confident in our communication abilities and in turn our fearfulness of the horse is lessened. A quote to finish: "you gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop and look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do! " Eleanor Roosevelt I hope that doesn't mean I should go and pick up spiders!! Have a good day guys xx

12.01.2022 This beautiful boy is now for sale (Riding pony x TB). Rider has outgrown and moved onto bigger horse. He has done plenty of PC (Grade 2 Dressage) and Interschool comps (Novice) with great success. Age 14, Height 15.3hh He is located in Officer. Contact Lisa 0402903416 for more details.

11.01.2022 Looks like we're going for the trifecta today - Sammy placed third at Langwarrin ODE Grade 3. Well Done!! While everyone was busy competing I had a great day coaching at Pearcedale Pony Club. It was wet and cold at times but the kids were wonderful and always enthusiastic - lovely to see some new faces there too. I look forward to seeing you guys in August, hopefully without the rain.

10.01.2022 Victorian Vet clinics are reporting a surge in the cases of colic at the moment. With a few of my clients horses falling ill in the past few weeks I thought I would put some info up to help prevent this painful and serious condition for our equine friends. I am sure you all know the signs of colic (lack of apetite, bloated stomoach, horse looking or kicking at stomach, horse rolling, temperature) but I thought I would list some preventative ideas: * Avoid change of feed or... hay (introduce gradually over 7-10 days) * Avoid feeding large qty of feed at once (3 times a day is ideal) * Have fresh water available * Do regular fecal egg counts (two times a year) * Parasites in particular ascarids, tapeworm & strongyles increase risk so check your worm paste to see which worms it targets!! * Beware of feeding excessive carbohydrates, like bran * Keep concentrates to a minimum * Ensure roughage (hay, chaff etc) makes up more than 60% of feed * Feeding hay from round bales has been associated with an increase of colic. This would probably be due to its exposure over time to the elements as it is not all eaten on the day it is given and will start to go off. Hope this helps everyone.

10.01.2022 Well done Emily - looks like you did great on Saturday coming = 2nd and = 5th in your Grade 5 dressage tests :)

10.01.2022 Well done Chloe on your 2nd placing at Bunyip HT's yesterday!

10.01.2022 Hope everyone is having a terrific day at Berwick Pony Club dressage day. News in already that one of my youngest students Monique has placed third out of 26 competitors in the Grade 5 test. Well done Monique!!

09.01.2022 So on this Christmas Eve I reflect on the year almost gone and the many highlights for my students. It may have been gaining that illusive blue ribbon for the first time and for other's riding their first flying change or starting with a new horse partnership. I hope that 2013 has been rewarding and I look forward to being a part of everyone's goals for 2014. I wish you and your families a wonderful Christmas and safe New Year. See you all in 2014, Cheers Kathy xx

09.01.2022 A very exciting day today. Off to CAVALIA tonight with Lisa & Mikaela. I just cant wait. We have awesome seats and even get to meet the horses after the show OMG....Anyone else been yet?

08.01.2022 I love Sunday afternoon when all the competition results come in from my students. One of my harder working pupils Sam (who I have been coaching for more than 9 years now - how time flies!) has had a wonderful weekend at Tintern Horse Trials, winning her section. Congratulations Samantha, all your hard work these past six months with your new horse Herc is really paying off!!

08.01.2022 Isn't horse riding a wonderful sport!! You can put in so many hours of preparation and tick off all the boxes, but there are two in the team and sometimes one of the team just doesn't want to play their part (the horse of course!). But there is always a chance for redemption. Luckily for Riley and Sinny they found their way back to their riders' and produced awesome second tests at Interschool Dressage. Extremely proud of Lauren and Mikaela today (and the ponies too)!

06.01.2022 **Important information for Pony Club Coaches** PCAV have just changed their insurance policy and now require coaches to register in order to coach at a club. The process is simple, just log in to www.ponyclubvic.org.au On the right hand side of the website, there is a box where you can register - its free (for now lol)

05.01.2022 Looking for lessons these school holidays? I will be coaching from both 5* in Cranbourne South and Byerley Equestrian Centre (Kevin's) at Officer. Available next week on Monday/Thursday/Friday/Saturday. 2nd week Monday & Thursday afternoon.

05.01.2022 Loved my day of coaching today. My girls work so hard and they are all improving soooo much. So a big thank you to them for making my day a pleasure :) Off to 5* tomorrow for Pearcedale Pony Club rally which should be lots of fun. Happy riding guys, see you soon xx

05.01.2022 Thanks to the rider's at Balnarring Pony Club today for a great day. All rider's were an absolute delight :) Tomorrow off to Langwarring Pony Club :) Not looking forward to my extra early start due to day light savings beginning :(

05.01.2022 Congrats to Sammy and her new and very big TB. I had my first ride of him this morning and he has a wonderful temperament and worked beautifully. It's going to be fun times ahead for these two I'm sure. Sam is selling her gelding 'Barney'. Anyone looking for an older gentleman who has plenty of years left (he's 20) let me know. He has been there and done it all and always does well at Interschool dressage and loves to jump too.

03.01.2022 Good luck Chloe for Interschool CT tomorrow at Werribee. No pressure but those championship rugs are pretty fancy, let Mickey know that he would look really good in one - that should help your chances for sure!!

02.01.2022 We had some wonderful results today: I was so excited to hear from Stacey - she has come 1st place today. I loved seeing her photo complete with a huge smile on her face and a beautiful blue ribbon and saddle blanket as prizes. Soon after I had an excited sms from Emily who placed 2nd - WOW what a day. You girls have done so well, enjoy your success, its well earnt!

02.01.2022 I had a great day today. Lots of coaching, some private and a few hours at Officer Adult Rider's club. A lovely bunch of ladies who all strive to be better rider's and enjoy their horses. I also had another super ride on Sinclair - today we did some jumping - he was sooo much fun! Sinclair is For Sale and is off to Pony Club this weekend. Check out my facebook page for his ad for more information including photos and video link.
