25.01.2022 My educational program is developed and progresses with each childs own individual interests and ideas. Dinosaurs have captured the teams eye, and this week was all about discovering and learning as much as we could. From dinosaur eggs hatching, to volcanoes erupting and the discovery of the ice age as they smashed dinosaurs from blocks of ice. Where did they live? What did they eat? Did they lay eggs? Where are they now? Lots of questions to be explored and discovered. Children learn best when the experiences they have are meaningful to them, and expand on their own existing knowledge.

24.01.2022 Setting the scene of SPRING. Our day care room is set with inspirations of spring, with bright paper flowers and lots of activities to enhance the thoughts of warmer days ahead. But nothing will beat the amazing display that our backyard has to offer. It has come alive with colour and scents of spring. Each afternoon for the past month, Michaela (one of my after school team) has headed to the back yard with a camera in hand, ready to capture the amazing pattern of change it has produced. From leaves to buds to flower, just how amazing to watch and capture. Some amazing shots by Michaela.

23.01.2022 Peta Strachan a descendant of the Darug people Booroberongal clan of NSW. Just beautiful.

23.01.2022 Congratulations to All Areas Family Day Care on this great achievement, I'm so proud to be apart of your scheme. Thank you Amany Mikhail, Martina Hribar, Staff and Educators

23.01.2022 Enriching the children with storytelling traditions, music and dance of Aboriginal NSW. Exploring the richness of culture and heritage.

23.01.2022 Book Week!! To capture every childs imagination and attention, sometimes something more than a told story or a picture book is needed. Giving children something tactile to hold and feel can spark their senses, and builds a connection between the child and the story. This week we have focused on some of the childrens favourite books, and having a little set up to help entice little minds to be open to the wonders of the written word has worked like magic.

23.01.2022 The Simple Act Of Climbing A Tree. Providing children with interactive play spaces will spark each childs natural curiosity, exploration and imagination. The outdoors provides a perfect backdrop for kids to do what comes naturally - to get active, to be inquisitive, to be hands-on, and to feel good about themselves. By allowing children to make their own choices about what they touch, feel and experience, will allow their imaginations and creativity to grow. Without knowing it, their motor skills are improving, their common sense is building, and theyre learning more about nature and how the world works. Child Theorist: John Dewey - Children learn best by doing, by acting the world.

22.01.2022 Kathys Family Day Care Como, was happy to host the enriching experience of Peta Strachan of the Darug people Booroberongal clan of NSW. Dreamtime stories were told and played out with music and dancing involving all children and educators combined. Thank you to the staff of All Areas Family Day Care and to all the amazing Family Day Care Educators who joined in to make this experience so rewarding to all the children attending. Learning Outcome 1.3 - Children develop their social and cultural heritage through engagement with elders and community members.

21.01.2022 YOGA Yoga has become an important and rewarding practice for both child and educator at Kathys Family Day Care Como. With co educators, Angela (Kareela Family Day Care,) Jodie (Jodies Family Day Care) and Magda (Choquitos Family Day Care) we have found the practice of Yoga, with its amazing ability to calm and restore, both body and mind has extended our ability and knowledge to teach children the elements and benefits of mindfulness taught by the practice of yoga. As a te...am of four Educators we embarked on a wonderful long weekend together at Billabong Yoga Retreat. Were we extended our learnings of Yoga, nutrition and mindfulness. With the practice of each day being focused on, encouraging co operation, compassion and living in harmony with the environment and our fellow peers. What a wonderful message to pass onto our team of little inspiring yoga gurus! Theorist Link: Vygotsky Socio-Cultual Theory -Children learn through social interactions with familiar peers to extend on their own existing knowledge. See more

20.01.2022 Allow the world of dirty fingers, trucks of dirt and mud pies to work its magic! Stimulating the senses and sparking imaginative play. With every truck full, with every poke in the dirt, they are beginning to make sense of the world around them. Kids have a natural affinity with dirt, and it unfold as they touch, smell and play in the garden. This in turn will foster your childs appreciation of the natural environment, develop environmental awareness and provide a platform for ongoing environmental education.

20.01.2022 Creating Christmas memories involves tapping into all of the childrens senses!! Something magical to look at, a glittery, snow forest, just invites little fingers to touch and feel. Allowing the team to re arrange or xmas decorations to create their own xmas scene has seen lots of our sneaky tree elves climbing high on the tree, then jumping from mushroom to mushroom. Who knows where I might find them next?

20.01.2022 Some days keeping up with the teams ideas and plans takes some quick thinking and planning, but today the team moved at their own lightening pace! First was setting the scene for Halloween. Cob webs, spiders and bats have invaded Kathys Family Day Care, Como. The team tackled the challenge of all things creepy with glee. Next was the invitation to play, in the most tempting of large boxes, which the team have used to hide, colour and fix with the tool set. This boxs use is as limitless as the teams imaginations! The arrival of our Educational Experience order pulled their attention to something new for the gang. A large block of white clay. A great medium to create and experiment with printing images of shells or creating a few clay figures...........still only lunch time.......lets see what the afternoon inspires!

19.01.2022 The progression of Spring. As a child Educator I try to make the most of the living, breathing classroom that is right outside the back door, by allowing children time to be outside regularly and to slow down enough for them to notice what is changing around them - then helping them to notice even more! When we try to see the changing world through their eyes, we learn a lot ourselves in the process. More amazing photos by Michaela.

17.01.2022 From the beginning of this year YOGA has been a weekly experience at Kathys Family Day Care. With fellow educators, Angela (Kareela Family Day Care) and Magda (Choquitos Family Day Care) joining in a structured class with Jo Gates registered Yoga teacher. As the year has progressed so has the childrens knowledge and skill, as each weekly session explores through YOGA themes of being helpful, kind, accepting and caring. The children also explore movement and control of their physical body in a fun and creative way. As Early Childhood Educators, we have also observed each childs improved focus and concentration. This is an activity which both child and Educator take part together equally, and all gain from equally. Namaste.

15.01.2022 Vacation Care activities are happening at Kathy's Family Day Care!! Team work, planning, creative thinking..... and lots of mess!! One fun creation for the day were balloons filled with corn flour for a great squeeze and squish experience. A few attempts were needed to get it right.

15.01.2022 Everyone loves creating something sweet! I thought something different to cup cakes might be a challenging change. Making our TEA CUPS was an activity which every age achieved and enjoyed.

12.01.2022 The last little spark of Autumn sun is just enough to offer a water play activity. Frogs are something which my little gang of eager minds find fascinating. Our frog pond had frogs jumping in and out of the pond as our sneaky snake watched on eagerly. Providing children with interactive play spaces will spark each childs natural curiosity, exploration and imagination.

11.01.2022 A Perfect first day of Spring! What a great reason to get outdoors with the gang. As a new season arrives there are endless changes for the team to watch, both above and below the ground, and plenty of opportunities to learn about how and why they happen. So we stopped....... and noticed a bud about to open, a beetle crawling from the dirt, a baby bird calling for its mum. If we can help our kids to understand why the leaves are falling, why the creatures are hibernating and why the flowers are blooming, then theyll become more interested in their surroundings, and more conscious of the environment as a whole.

11.01.2022 Vacation Care is up and happening at Kathy's Family Day Care Como, and a wet, cold morning was the perfect setting for experimenting with a new method of making an old favourite - squeeze ball's! Baking Soda, hair conditioner and some colourful balloons to create a great stretchy, squishy, stress releasing hand ball. All ages were involved and keen to experience this new sensory sensation. A few trial and errors as we planned to use a mesh bag to create an oozing, bubbly effect, which we didn't quiet achieve, so we tried plan B, of cutting holes in a second skin of balloon. Success! Outcomes 4a. Children use play to investigate, imagine and explore ideas. 4b. Children use reflective thinking to consider why things happen and what can be learnt from these experiences.

10.01.2022 YOGA has become an important and rewarding practice for both child and educator at Kathys Family Day Care Como. Now is our second year of our yoga practice. I can see my little yogis knowledge and skill develop through their increased ability to control their movements and be able to calm themselves and rest. Never an easy thing when your three!!

09.01.2022 A fun filled, action packed, wrap up to our 2019 year of care! A night of celebrations to say thank you to all my amazing families and children. The children had a ball, with Santa popping in with bags of lollies and glow sticks for all. An exclusive party for four family day care Educators teams of families and children. An overflowing buffet of food was on offer to all. Grazing platter, jelly and pizza to round off the night. We also took time to recognise the achievements of our graduating students for 2019. It was a fun night for families and children to mix and enjoy the Xmas season.

09.01.2022 To follow up on each child's learning from our visit from Aboriginal dancers a few weeks ago, we further explored Aboriginal cultures with a matching game of indigenous symbols. We also explored different diversity of skin colour by using play dough made with vanilla, cinnamon and one with chocolate to represent the differences and similarities between people of the world. Outcomes achieved: Children respond to diversity with respect.

08.01.2022 How many fairies is too many fairies?? Feeling inspired after attending All Areas Family Day Care conference. Lots of ideas and great resources to put into play. Im sure a woodland fairy wonderland will captures someones eye and little fingers.

07.01.2022 A new craft for the team was to use an intriguing nature item of a lotus pod. It is just a perfect shape to fill with bells and glittery pom poms. Little fingers managed to fill each hole, and create a great Christmas shaker.

06.01.2022 A basket overflowing with Christmas bits and bobs has sparked each child's creative spirit. Also one Christmas craft loving educator has lots of plans and ideas to keep the team's fingers busy (and covered in a layer of glue and glitter!) First task: A Christmas wreath.

06.01.2022 Making "snake bubbles" had all the gang involved! Top half of a drink bottle wrapped in a chux wipe and bowls of soapy water. All that was needed was lots of puffs of air to create a new way of making bubbles. -Children work collaboratively with educators and peers to explore new concepts and ideas.

05.01.2022 Finding an item from nature to create something special for Christmas is always special. The children gathered these pine cones from the local park earlier this year, and couldnt wait any longer to put them to use. Its become a bit of Xmas tradition each year at Kathys Family Day Care Como.

05.01.2022 By involving children in a variety of play based experiences each day, children are learning all they need to know in order to be prepared for starting school. Through play, and some great fun resources, learning unfolds naturally and in a fun way. Pre-writing, pre-reading and pre-maths skills are challenged and extended on at Kathys Family Day Care Como, and the team are asking for "more"!

04.01.2022 I heard a THUMP, and a ROAR, as DINOSAURS took over the day care room. Then SQUEALS of excitement, as my team of thrill seekers arrived to see Velociraptor, Stegosaurus and Triceratops all stomping through palm branches and erupting volcanoes.

04.01.2022 Learning about colours, and how they can mix and blend to make other exciting colours was best achieved today with cups of food colour, a large water play trough and a sparkling sunny morning. Children use play to investigate, imagine and explore ideas.

02.01.2022 The Christmas craft steam train is still chugging along! An everyday activity with a Christmas twist. Our snowman factory was a very popular activity, engaging all ages and abilities.

02.01.2022 Something we have never tried before! Play dough made with cornflour and hair conditioner for a great sensory play experience. A quick walk to the corner shop for our ingredients just added to the excitement of doing something new. All hands were in, as measuring, counting and experimenting to get just the right texture was happening. The best part of Family Day Care is experiences can be spontaneous and every child can take an active role in their own learning.

01.01.2022 Who remembers Romper Room and punching balloons? Sometimes old fashion ideas are something brand new and exciting to a new team. This activity had an age range from 2yrs to 9yrs involved and moving. Giant balloons, hand pump, elastic string, music on, and lots of room to move. Success!
