25.01.2022 Wow! Fascinating!

19.01.2022 36 degrees out, so today I DOODLED. Reef Inks & Markers

19.01.2022 If our natives don’t matter above all else, I don’t get it. I just don’t.

19.01.2022 Next job: clean up! Next drawing: something considerably smaller!!

14.01.2022 I have begun research on an Endangered Australian Sea animal. Trust me to pick a tricky little fellow! I think you will love him! Can you guess what it is?? ** keep the guesses coming, & I might give you a sneak peak tonight!!

13.01.2022 Our Facebook live this week will be at the new time of 10am (same time as last week, one hour earlier than the others). This week we are going to meet the gorg...eous tropical dingo Kimmi and show off her impressive climbing skills, and the features that make tropical dingoes unique! Hope that you can join us, we stream live to our Facebook page!

12.01.2022 How sweet to be tiny!

10.01.2022 Love these guys to the moon & back!

09.01.2022 Koalas have feet & hands. They have long, strong claws for gripping to tree trunks & climbing. They have 3 fingers & two opposable toes on their hands; & their feet have a double claw, which is used for grooming their wooly, dense fur. Charcoal & pen studies

09.01.2022 ~ Koala & Joey ~ Joeys are considered independent at 1, but will generally stay with their mothers until around 2 yrs of age. They will then move on to establish their own territories. Charcoal

07.01.2022 Thank you again Sooty dingo (Australian Dingo Foundation)for supporting my drawing & sharing the loveliest compliments on Instagram @sooty_dingo. I have shared finished Sooty there, but not yet here, as I couldn’t copy my write up/blurb - & it’s quite lengthy (& didn’t actually all fit) what I wanted to share about dingoes! Sooty is coming. Tonight I spotted a wee area I want to correct, so hopefully finished Sooty will appear here tomorrow too! Sooty actually measures 31.5 &... 30 cm, one of my larger drawings! It’s been really weird therefore working from a small IPhone 6 sized photo - & enlarging it! That’s likely why I got into so much trouble during the drawing process?! But he’s looking pretty good in the bigger size & I’m reasonably happy - considering I choose a very poor, undetailed pic to work from! Hopefully tomorrow you will see & read about Sooty, the pure sable coloured Alpine Dingo - & a bit about dingoes in general. Thanks for following...... See more

07.01.2022 Sooty’s nearly finished! Just some minor tweaking to do. Sign off & a written piece of information. Today I added some burnt mountain bushland. See how well sooty blends with it! Sooty would have been born during the summers bushfires. He was found alone near Jamieson, Victoria. Likely his parents were killed by hunters, or baited. Dingos are considered feral in Victoria. Their DNA remains strikingly different to wild domestic dogs.... Pure Alpine Dingo (cub - to differentiate from a domestic dog/pup. Quite different). Canis Lupis Dingo Vulnerable Polychromos

06.01.2022 Some exciting news ! My first ever run of Katherine Eaton Fine Art is currently at the printers & will be ready tomorrow afternoon!! As this is my first lot, it’s a bit of an experiment.....I will have 15 A3 Sleepy Koala prints on white linen paper; and, 20 Sleepy Koala cards on natural/brown card. I’m not 100% sure how they’ll come up, but they will be a measure for more to come! Prices will be very reasonable for this range. Prints will be signed & dated by hand, & will... come with a complimentary card. I’ll have some business cards coming along too! Who do you think should feature/represent my art?? Let me know! Thanks for your interest guys! Sleepy Koala was never imagined to go to press!! And know he’s my first! ...STAY TUNED... Erin & Louie ~ I will be in touch

05.01.2022 OMGosh!! What a dingo!! I love this guy so much Thank you Sooty & Dingo Discovery and Research Centre. You are too kind

05.01.2022 I want a bat house!!

05.01.2022 Ta Da..... Great guess Bettina!! It seemed you wanted an animal without fur, & something a bit unusual - so I’m going to slowly start working on a Whites (New Holland and/or Sydney) Seahorse. This little Australian, is sadly 1 of the two endangered Seahorses world wide. The other is a South African Seahorse.... I haven’t found a lot on this little creature so far, but will add more information as I go on. Here’s a quick little drawing I did this afternoon, before work. Whites Seahorse Hippocampus Whitei

05.01.2022 No. It’s S O O T Y !!! His amazing story.

03.01.2022 ~ SOOTY~ Pure Sable coloured Alpine Dingo Canis Lupis Dingo... Status: Vulnerable Polychromos Fabriano Artistico Coldpressed Paper 31.5 X 30 cm @ Dingo Discovery and Research Centre Sadly the dingo is the only native Australian animal to be listed as a vulnerable species, and as a pest in Victoria. Alpine Dingoes are regarded as pests by farmers, & therefore succumb to 1080 baiting & shooting. An Alpine Dingo with Sooty’s colouring is easily confused with wild dogs of similar colouring ie: those with German Shepherd or Kelpie colouring. Dingoes by characteristics & anatomy are very distinctly different to domestic/wild dogs. Sooty’s DNA is pure Alpine Dingo. Sooty was found as a 7-8 week old cub, lying on a road in Jamieson. Dingoes mature around 18 mths, & Cubs stay with their parents up until 6-12mths of age. It is most likely that Sooty’s parents/family succumbed to baiting or were shot. Dingoes remain in their family groups, until the young move on. Adults generally pair for life I the wild. The stability of a family group is key to a Cubs chances of learning true dingo behaviour, & therefore survival. Dingoes breed only once a year & produce up to 5 Cubs. Other females may kill the offspring of others. They can live up to 10 years in the wild, & have been known to live up to 18 yrs in captivity. Dingoes come in 3 main colours: Tan (reddish to golden), Sable (black), & White (cream, sand); reflecting where in Australia they are situated. Sable makes up 3% of colouring. Sooty’s sable is a throwback to this summers bushfires - for camouflage into burnt bushland. Alpine Dingoes have thick coats & busy tail. As well as Alpine Dingoes, there are Tropical & Northern (desert) dingoes. Dingoes weigh bt 10-20 kg. They have a slight frame, with their head being the widest part of their body. A dingo measures bt 1.2 - 1.5 mtrs in length. Dingo’s have incredible dexterity, & their bodies can flex & distort to fit into small cavities. They hunt only what they eat, & will go for sick, weak or elderly animals. Dingoes are carnivores, but will feed on insects when food sources are low. Their main food source is Kangaroo, Wallaby & wombat. Dingoes have been in Australia for around 4,000 years, & carry the role of being our Apex predator. Their ability to cull introduced species such as foxes, rabbits & feral cats, is extremely relevant to the survival of our smaller native species. Dingoes do not bark. They howl. Their ears are large & designed to fully turn sideways, & each ear can turn dependently of the other. Their hearing is sharp & can hear a weakened heartbeat up to 25 mtrs away. They truly are a unique Canid species, & must be protected, so that our unique ecosystems remain stable & vibrant. Check out the great Dingo Foundation Sanctuary at Toolern Vale, Victoria. They are open again under Covid restrictions for dingo discovery tours & meets. Sooty is now safely with them, learning to do Dingo things with other rescued Cubs.

02.01.2022 Very exciting!! Go Quolls.

02.01.2022 Koalas are NOT bears! Koalas are amongst a group of animals known as Marsupials; who give birth to undeveloped young, who continue to develop in the mother’s pouch. A Koalas pouch faces outwards & downwards. It contains 2 teats. A koala Joey will suckle for 6-8 mths, while it continues to develop. A female can start to breed at 3-4 yrs of age, & will usually produce 1 Joey. Koalas breed from March to August. A koala gestates from 30-36 days. At birth, the newborn finds its ...way from the birth canal to the pouch Charcoal & pastel
