22.01.2022 Wow. what a repugnant, bullying nasty excuse for a human. How sad that these kind of humans are in our tax payer funded, life long economically protected positions of power in our country. I have had quite a few people ask me why I dont go into politics recently - and the thought of having to engage with these kind of humans is exactly why not PLUS I wouldnt put my loved ones through the level of BS scrutiny inflicted upon the family of politicians by the current click ...bait media..... BUT seriously - how can this kind of behaviour be funded (and supported by his sneering all male, all white laughing mates on the bench)? Sad. So sad. If any of these men have mothers, daughters, wives or sisters they should be ashamed. As I say to my awesome sons, with anything you are prepared to say on social media/to anyone - imagine saying it to my face. If you are proud to do so, then go ahead. If not, pls reconsider. Feels like these (adult?) men need some mothering to remind of them of their civil and political duty to be civil, respectful and kind to ALL humans. Revolting and repugnant behaviour that does not deserve to be funded by anyones tax payers dollars. 20.01.2022 I was SO thrilled to play my song with the extraordinary artists of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra for the wonderful #playiton initative a little while back. I was so buoyed by their playing that this is just one live vocal take in the studio - as I floated above their collective beauty. Covid has been a time of creative difficulty for me but I finally broke my recent songwriting drought last night, so thought I would celebrate this by sharing this video with you!!! I am cur...rently putting the finishing touches on YET another arts grant at 4am gahhhh! In a way the song I just wrote last night - Golden Light - is a follow up to this one I wrote as a wedding gift for my beautiful husband Zac Hurren about 16 years ago. I am so deeply honoured to receive my first APRA AMCOS Australian Music Centre Art Music Award - the Queensland Luminary award for The Glad Tomorrow and furthering the future of Queensland musicians!!!! WOWEEEEE! Producing The Glad Tomorrow alongside the Noonuccal/Walker family, Kaleenah Edwards Petrina, Raymond and Joshua Walker and the Quandamooka community was a deep privilege and honour and sincere thanks to the Australia Council for the Arts and my bandmates th...e Australian String Quartet and all our extraordinary composers. I would like to thank the Queensland Music Festival for the opportunity to dream and scheme as their youngest ever and first QLD Artistic Director and sincerely thank the amazing peeps - Leeanne Enoch MP Arts Queensland APRA AMCOS and Hutchinson Builders - who supported my vision to create the first $$ award honouring a contemporary Australian female songwriter in the 15K Carol Lloyd Award. I am a fierce advocate for championing Australian stories and songs, and now is probably an opportune time to announce that I have just been nominated to become an APRA AMCOS board member and I am super hopeful to join the team and continue my advocacy work as a board member for the first ever company that recognised my songwriting as a legitimate job! The last QLD APRA board member was in 1975, 2 years before I was born (!) so Im keen to get a QLDER back on the team and also help increase the current 25% female board member stats!!! #garnthemaroons I still remember my first APRA cheque (and yup it was a cheque cause it was legit last century!) and how proud I was that my songs meant something to someone and that I could be paid for that honour to boot! Anyhoo - I am super chuffed and grateful for this honour and send congratulations to all my fellow nominees and award winners and lotsa love to all - especially my dear mates in Victoria. 16.01.2022 6 months ago today, on 14/3 I had my last live gig. A sold out show at the beautiful The Majestic Theatre Pomona- the 3rd concert of a mega national solo tour for #latenighttuneswithnoons This was my year to return to being a full time artist and go back to no salary after the last 4 years of job security (for the first time in my life!) I remember feeling that night that we were on the precipice of something very significant and I was scared. I remember feeling the huge ...weight of being a parent and having to guide 2 young people through this extraordinary time. Within a week, gatherings of large people, upon which I rely for my entire livelihood, went from 500 to 100 to 50 to 10 to 2 and everything I had planned for evaporated - national and international tours, my 20th studio album promo plans, a composition residency in France and a curatorial job in Finland. About 2 months in, my bestie of 30 years decided I wasnt worth her effort and jumped ship when I was lost at sea. I am at peace with her decision now and send her love. I am taking time today to reflect on these last 6 months and applaud our collective awesomeness, our resilience and ingenuity, as we have all had to transform into a new way of life with grace and strength. We are amazing. We have focused on gratitude, we have realised our purpose is to do good, to spread love, we have looked within and we have become human beings rather than human doings. I love us. Sending love to all - life is awesome and no matter what, gratitude gets us through. 11.01.2022 I thinkkkkk I have just come to the glorious realization that I have written my next album ! It feels RAD. #transmutant was my last album of my own originals in 2015, and this feels like the next step to that body of work. I am back in the little house on Quandamooka country that I wrote the songs Emperor’s Box and Time in 14 years ago around Jonah’s 1st bday, trying to not sing too loud and wake the 2 bubs! This album will now feature my amazing muso kids Jonah (14) and D...exter (15) , Steele Chabau and Cameron Deyell and will be engineered by my brilliant husband Zac Hurren in his Rainbow Room Studio sometime over the next year This will be my 21st studio album and my 13th album of my own tunes. A HUGE SHOUT OUT to the deadset legend Len and the staff at Binary Music Cleveland, who sent over an amp on the water taxi for me yesterday morning, once I realised I had bought the wrong power supply for my other keyboard - absolute LEGENDS, above and beyond - no wonder they are celebrating 30 years of business!!!! The last 5 years have given PLENTY of inspo and this will be an awesome bookend to that. 10.01.2022 Yay!!! One of the best texts ever. I have been taking GREAT joy in being able to walk from one room into another for the first time in 2 weeks! Cuddling my humans and fur baby never felt SO good I am SO grateful to be home on magic Gubbi Gubbi country after 4 weeks away - 2 weeks in Melb lockdown and 2 weeks in hotel room quarantine. 07.01.2022 I am thrilled to be joining a virtual choir of badass boss babes across Australia singing together to honour a woman who paved the way for all of us - Helen Reddy She was the first Australian songwriter to win a Grammy (and ps the first Aussie to ever win a Grammy was also a woman - La Stupenda Dame Jane Sutherland !). It’s a little bittersweet as this is the first ARIA awards I haven’t attended in a very long time as it’s always a great night championing your col...leagues, but I will be cheering at the TV on Channel 9 from glorious Quandamooka country instead!!! 07.01.2022 75 years ago today on August 15 1945, my two wonderful grandads Harry Cummings (pictured) and Tommy Noonan returned home from WW2. I am so grateful for the freedoms we enjoy today as a result of their selfless service to our country. Tragically, 40,000 Aussie soldiers did not return to their families. As our then Prime Minister Chifley said Let us remember those whose lives were given, that we may enjoy this glorious moment and may look forward to a peace which they have ...won for us. It was an honour to sing the notes of two women I adore - Lizzo and Whitney Houston - and I had the BEST time becoming Sally the Sloth - I loved her and her cute curves, sweet moves and (slow) sass! I would love to thank the whole team, especially Gary Pinto - amazing singer, sweet soul and awesome voca...l coach, incredible Oscar winning designer Tim Chappell and Kym, Ellen, Josh, Al and the extraordinary wardrobe team, lovely Dorian and the music production team, Elena, Randall, Simmo and the top notch audio team, Ronan, Ross, Hayden and the amazing security team, the lovely Janine, Amanda, Emma, Bec and the WB team, the 2 sweet make up ladies Natalie and Fotini, who managed to turn my super sweaty inner sloth face into something more presentable for the reveal(!), all the rad Channel 10 team and of course the 4 lovely panelists @danniiminogue Urzila Carlson @dhughesy and @jackieo_official It was super awesome, legit bonkers fun and I am grateful for the experience! I remember meeting you and Archie Roach at my first ARIA awards around 2001 and being pretty freaked out and feeling very out of plac...e, and I was SO grateful to meet you two and just have a relaxed yarn with beautiful, grounded and genuine people. I was so proud when you called me your deadly sista and especially loved singing Womens Business with you... my fave bit was your rambunctious "leave it alone!"...followed by a cheeky chuckle! I then got to sing it 6 years later at #nukkunyaruby with my heroes #tiddas in your memory - what an honour that was. 04.01.2022 I have always loved playing Wangaratta Jazz and have especially loved listening to the National Jazz Awards. I remember sitting in the car in Sydney listening to my amazing hubby Zac Hurren when he won the award in 2009, and then again listening to the extraordinary Kristin Berardi when she won in 2012 with her amazing instrument - her spectacular voice.
