Renovations are often deceptively simple, especially when a house has character. This character may reveal itself when trying to install Ikea cupboards with uneven floors, making the doors crooked. Or you house may have some hidden elements like an Oregon wooden mantle piece that is cover...ed layers of paint. I am Katie and I can help you with your rethink. After being a chef and caterer for 15 years I began restoring furniture and picture frames in 2002, studying in Tasmania with the Australian School of Fine Furniture. I have been working in this area ever since. I have used my chefs eye to design and install kitchens and repaired/redesign many, many, many more. I use my creative brain to figure out how to repair, restore, reuse and revitalise other house rooms and features. I have never met an Ikea project that has defeated me, regardless of age and installation complexity. But to me it is important to make them look good with trim and vintage accents. I have my own restoration project going with my own workers cottage and I have a passion for older character filled houses. I love bringing vintage into your house, along side functional modern necessities. In our changing world, we need to look at reusing things rather than disposing them.
