01.01.2022 Meet Snuffley! I was lucky enough to meet this gorgeous old man with cushings Disease. For those who don’t know what that is: The cause of Cushing's disease in horses is a tumor found in the pituitary gland within the brain. Horses with Cushing’s Disease can exhibit a variety of symptoms, with an excessively long and curly hair coat that fails to shed in the summer being the most recognisable one. Other symptoms include: * Weight loss due to loss of active back muscle, seen... as a swayback and potbelly * Excessive body fat * Development of insulin resistance which can lead to laminitis * excessive thirst/urination * Blindness * Weakened immune system; delayed wound healing, chronic infections * Behavioural changes such as lethargy * Reproductive disorders He is a 30 year young Waler, originally from lake Eyre, born and bred in Australia. Had a very very tough life out on a cattle station where he participated in the great Aussie cattle drive in 2000 travelling a distance of 500km! After a very needed hair cut, and beard shave, he looks good as new! Feeling young and fresh I think! It was such a pleasure to be able to give this horse a make over. I hope I see him again soon Make sure for those who have horses with cushings, keep them well hydrated and clipped in summer to prevent over heating and dehydration! Summer Cushings special for all horses is $90 + free travel!
